repost:
The client will do that, because once a 'frame' is completed it will show you have you have completed 1/400 (400 frames being the most used) done.
A WU should take, lets use my computer for example because I have a similar computer, but there are varibles (should be in FAQ ):
a) the 'size' of a WU -- more points see here
b) Computer speed
c) time computer is idle
More idle the computer, the faster folding will go. On average running 20/7 I average a WU 3-4 days. 70 (large) take much longer while 19.7 pointers (small) take less time.

I hope I explained that.

Comeon, something like that needs to be there. A short no-brain explanation.

okay, I'm not that regular of a poster on these boards, but I look at this board nearly every day - I skip a day, and there's a new thread with a full 3 pages tacked on to it already - this calls for a distributed computing chat room.

I got the problem that folding is just not starting when i m booting. I have to start it manually, but than it will work for good.
Would be cool if you could help me to arrange his. I will however not be able to test it before next wed .
I used the SP script of mc68k.

I thought this was only me... :(

I see it is not.

Yeah, not sure why but when I boot it doesn't restart folding.

As in Terminal:
[Jeremiah-Bornemanns-Computer:~] jeremiahbornemann% crontab -l
@reboot cd ~/F@H1; ./OSX-3.24 -local
Jeremiah -- Me so, my username...

I like the sig script... just put as mine.

OK, n/m. I guess I missed something... thought it auto did the points.

I'll look at it again later...

this is very general to all forums, but Im posting it here because I want to use it here :).

is there a way to insert text into a signature from a file?

I'd like to use a script to read in the webpage from folding user's stat page and extract the points from it and save it as a text file. Then the sig can just call this text file (on my web server) and insert the text.

I'm asuming that this is not allowed because of security and all, but the vB code seems to do quite a bit--is there a vB code way of doing this?

I threw out the idea of doing a script that outputs directly to the sig instead of a "middle-man" text file because php and html are disabled--which is a good sercurity measure.

If no text file is available... possibly a slightly more complex script could be made to make a small image of numbers? and that be inserted? I'm not quite sure what it means when the forum options at the end of the page say tags are "off"--could have sworn I posted an image a while back.

hope this makes since :)

Yeah, bert, I know what you're talking about. Other forums (MacAddict, MacNN, etc.) allow images in signatures, which allows you to use a dynamically generated image with your up-to-date stats.

I don't think arn will allow that, so for now the best we can do is manually update the text in our sigs.

I'm an Idot

Folks.

I want to help out but I think I might just be too dumb.

I downloaded this:

"SP_folding.dmg" from mc68k's .mac file sharing page. http://homepage.mac.com/mc68k/

and entered my name as "squire." What else do I have to do? I'm no computer genius but seeing as my computer is idle a lot...

Squire

I heard that mac65k modified the script so it doesn't need a password, is that the current one, or do I need a special one?

the script on my page is current

if u want to see if it is running, open a terminal window and type top. to quit top press q.

then look for FahCore_78 or 65. it should be taking most of your spare CPU cycles. if you want to see progress, type in work at the command prompt.

I think I can...

I want to fold. I'm trying to fold. But I'm not sure that I actually AM folding. I think I am but my name is nowhere to be found.

Here's what I've got:

User name: Squire (Team 3446)
+ Processing work unit
[00:53:42] Core required: FahCore_78.exe
[00:53:42] Core found.
[00:53:42] Working on Unit 02 [August 4 00:53:42]
[00:53:42] + Working ...
Expanded 363793 -> 1768593 (decompressed 486.1 percent)
[00:54:00]
[00:54:00] Project: 341 (Run 43, Clone 28, Gen 2)
[00:54:00]
Starting from checkpoint)
[00:54:21] Protein: p341_gnra_den
[00:54:21]
[00:54:21] Writing local files
[00:54:35] Completed 21898 out of 500000 steps (4)

But when I go to the site to check my stats- I enter my name and team #3446- it says "No users were found that match your search criteria. Please widen your search and try again."

Kind of sucks. Any advice?

Squire

Okay. Thanks. At least it's working. Slowly but surely. I think I saw a limit of 18 days for that protein. At this rate, I won't make it.

Time for a dual G5?

You will still get credit regardless of how long it takes you, but stanford won't use the data.
