Several things need to be added/updated:
Statsman <--- Seems to have died randomly.

MacNN's Stats no longer allow our team to be seen, we are too far ahead.

Partial Units are now accecpted as points.

And a Link to the Banner Making thread should be there too.

Quotes from Elsewhere:
"If the client is killed, rather than shut down normally, the probability of it failing to close all the files correctly is higher"
"Stanford recommends explicitly ending the client before rebooting rather than just shutting down"

I need some clarification Please :
how do you "kill the client" ,so I won't ever do it (again?)
How do you "explicitly end the client" ?
and can I assume "Shut down normally" is "Shut Down..." from the Pulldown Menu, and has the same effect as a "Restart..." ?
Thanks:confused:

The client will be killed by system events such as a shut down or commands from Terminal.

To ensure that you don't get the data corruption they talk about, it seems they say you should shut down the app by quitting it, rather than having it be killed by OS X when you shut down/reboot.

Rower -- Is the Partial Unit not important enough to be mentioned?

'If you unit is terminated by the client for unkown reasons Folding will recieve the unit and give you the points for your progress on that work unit'

something like that

Will the folding work with a graphite G4 Dual 450?

How much screen space does it take?

Yes and none, if you use mc68k's installer scripts.

So the only download that I need is the mc68k's? It sounds as though I want to use the, text console version.

I'm not a technically profecient person. It is easier for me to be prompted on what I should be doing. Does it work that way and also intuitive.

Does this run automaticaly or do you have to open a program each time like you do any other program.

I hope you won't think that I'm too much of a pain. But this way is easier for me!

Thank you Rower! :)

The script prompts you along and gives you the option to have folding run all the time, even after a reboot.

I'd recommend the singe processor install. There is a readme file inside that tells you more about what the script does.

Your welcome, wd'. :)

If I may ask, are you recommending the single processor because it is easier?

Should I have it running all the time that I have my G4 running.

An off the subject question is it OK with Panther to alternately put the G4 to sleep and shutdown?

Feel free to install the dual processor script if you wish, I just think the single would be a better match for your system. They are both exactly the same when it comes to setup and use.

You can run folding as much or as little as you want. If you are doing something especially processor intensive (working in iMovie or something like that) you can pause/stop it and then restart it when you're done.

Take a look at the documentation. It should answer a lot of your questions.

Single or Dual, depending on how many processors you have.

Its not easier or harder...

If you install the mc68k script it will be running once you install it and contiune after restarting (optional to remove it also, just easier to just say 'run on startup'

If you don't remember to turn it on like I do this feature is useful.

Puting the machine to sleep will stop the CPU from running, so folding will not be running, same with shuting down.

Putting a monitor to sleep, or shutting it off it for me.

I just made an attempt to join folding. Downloaded SP_Folding.dmg & FAH4-CLI.

This is what occurred?

Now what?

Well first... you screwed up.

I don't think you need a proxy...

Second you need to delete your folding because the unit isn't going to go through.

Go to the terminal and type in 'rid'

This will delete your work... sorry has to be done.

Then redownload the script... open it...
It asks you for name type (NO SPACES) 'wdlove' hit enter.
Type '3446' hit enter
ask before sending work type 'n' hit enter
Use Proxy type 'n' hit enter
Advanced features 'n' hit enter

Then you are done.

After it downloads the core again... you are good.

After it says
[01:32:18] Completed 0 out of 5000000 steps (0)
Just quit the terminal and your done.

If you need more help... PM me or get in contact with me...

I tried it again today for the 3rd time, this is the result.

I have no idea about graphical client. Was trying to do as directed by RowerCPU & MrMacman. It sounds as though I need to undo my previous error. Hoping that one of them will respond to my query. It is all for the team.

What I need is someone available when something happens unexpected.

I see, because you have a dual processor machine. I'm not sure if you can use the graphical client with both processors.

Does this mean that I'm now a fellow member of MacRumors Folding?

Yeah you didn't delete the previous folding error...

I wish there was a faster way of talking to you about this, I could do it step by step... but posting on a forum isn't very fast and its effective.

What you want to do...
Is Stop Folding, Delete Folding and Reinstall folding.

In the terminal you should type
(nothing should appear after you do this)
Then type in
(This will delete folding)
Now you want to find out if you Have stopped folding fron running and that is has been deleted.
Type in the terminal
If Fah_Core (with numbers after it) you have a problem... because it didn't stop running...

You also need to check If folding is still installed. Use The Find (apple + F) and type in
. If there is nothing found you can reinstall.

And then you want to reinstall the script... as I posted above.

Then redownload the script... open it...
It asks you for name type (NO SPACES) 'wdlove' hit enter.
Type '3446' hit enter
ask before sending work type 'n' hit enter
Use Proxy type 'n' hit enter
Advanced features 'n' hit enter

Then you are done.

Have I completed the task correctly MrMacman? I really appreciate your patience with me, I'm sure that it will pay off in the end.

***Do you know where I can find my favorites for IE located in OS 9, want to update it in the X?

Should I trash the folding software that I downloaded previously?

To saver time could you give me a link to what I actually need to download? Your help is greatly appreciated. It is great to have a friend. ;)
