I'm sorry MrMacman, think that I did smoething wrong again. Please be patient with me, it's not that I'm not trying. I was proud of my self when I found the finder! :)

Just finished running the installer and got this:

That looks pretty damn good to me.

If you can go to your CPU Viewer/Processor Viewer (deepening on which version of 10.x)

when you select to sort by %CPU is there anything that starts with 'fah' at the top (higher percentage).

If you you have it installed properly.

And then... congrads. :D

Thank you MrMacman. I check a few places, but I don't know what the CPU Viewer/Processor Viewer is or where it can be located?

So at that point it will be running automatically? Hopefully your patience will be rewarded. Hoping that I will be of assistance to the team. ;)

Since you found the finder (that sounds odd, doesn't it?), look on the left side of the finder window for the "Applications" button. Click on that and the right hand pane should show a bunch of folders. Find the one named "Utilities" and double click on it to open it up. Now, look in the right hand pane for "Process viewer" and double click that. It should open up and then you should see an fah application that is using most of your cpu. TaDa!

WARNING: Jaguar and Panther are different, so it matters which you are running. I run both and get confused, but I tried to give you Panther destructions!

I sure hope so too...

It should be located in your Applications/Utilities folder

If all is going well... you should be producing nicely.

I'm sorry again MrMacman. I went to my Applications/Utilities folder and I don't see an icon called, "Process viewer." Anxious to see if I have actually stated folding.

I hope that you will continue to be patient with me? ;)

I think he means "Activity Monitor", which should be in your utilities folder if you're running Panther.

Whoops...

Too many Versions of 10.x out there...

Gah the app just changes names in each version... :(

Yes go to Activity Monitor and check if anything starting with the name 'fah' is running, if so your good to go and in 3-4 days you will see your first stats.

Is this the correct appeance in my Activity Monitor, MrMacman? Where will I find my stats?

2854 FahCore_78.exe wdlove 58.50 3 7.06 MB 36.39 MB

2853 FahCore_78.exe wdlove 50.00 3 7.05 MB 36.26 MB

2850 fah4 wdlove 0.00 4 1.37 MB 33.56 MB

2849 fah4 wdlove 0.00 4 876.00 KB 33.56 MB

wd... this looks like two instances of folding running on a single processor machine which, according to several, is considered a not-so-good thing. I would terminate one of them (by clicking on one of the fah4 processes in activity viewer, then selecting "quit" from the "process" menu and answering "ok" to the 'are you sure' dialog box).

But yes, it does indicate that you are folding away!

I'm not sure if the above information might be related to the fact that I have a Power Mac Dual 450. If I should do what jbeetz is suggesting to do in my Activity Monitor. Which one should I click on?

Also where will I find my Stats from my folding? When should I check?

Thank you for your valuable and appreciated assistance MrMacman.
;)

Wdlove please disregard jbeetz's post...

Of Coarse... when you do have a Dual Machine it is good...

Yeah its also in his profile that he has a dual G4...

So yes.

Good Good Good... you have finished your setup.

Good Job.

MrMacman I just tried to check on my stats. Didn't see my name listed anywhere. Is it still too soon? Or am I looking in the wrong place? Thank you for your assistance again! ;)

Isn't it wonderful how great minds think alike! :p

Hopefully the problems can be worked out satisfactorily.

Here's a question I can't seem to see a straight answer on.
I just joined the team 04-05-04 and I downloaded the graphical version of folding@home. I run a G3 (converted to a G4-500 via Sonnet) with a Radeon 7000 32mb graphics card and 680 mb RAM. It was suggested that I convert to the console version so it would run twice as fast. I am not at all familiar with using terminal and am somewhat apprehensive in messing around there. Since 10:00 am when I got my first WU I am at 17% complete at 2:00 pm. do I need to wait for the Wu to complete before I change to the console version? and when I do will it run at the log-on level of my machine (I have 3 people using this Mac at home, me being the administrator, my wife and my daughter) I would like to let the machine run 24/7 but am unsure how to properly set it up.

Thanks, Sparky

I would recommend either using mc68k's scripts above to setup or Tam Mac OS X's InCrease app to ensure that Folding is running at all times your Mac is on.

I'd say let your current work finish and then start fresh with one of the above tools.

Sparky:

I am not familiar with the app that Rower recommended (and the web page came up blank?), if that works then you're golden.

Otherwise, it's a smidge trickier, especially if you want folding to run while the login screen is displayed. If you don't do that, every time you log out you will halt folding. Folding underneath the login screen (and while all other users are logged in as well) requires root permissions...

The link I posted goes to an OS X dmg file of the app - there's no page there. Both that app and mc68k's scripts will run folding from the command-line as soon as the machine is booted up and for as long as the machine is running, regardless of who's logged in.

Help!

OK now I have downloaded "FAH4-CLI" the console version and when I double click I get a "can't find application to open file" message. I downloaded InCrease but the help menu dosen't say how to install it just does a scan finds my Folding@home folder and says InCrease is not installed. I downloaded the single from Mc68ks site and the RCS-72 autosetup.
I have read the help files, double clicked almost everything and am now at a great loss as to what to do. I'm sitting here with terminal open and can't see that anything is happening.
Do you, or somebody have a PDF I can download that will walk me through step by step to get this going?
Thanks, Sparky

P.S. first WU completed in 18 hrs using GUI

It's running but I'm not sure all is OK, I keep seeing (invalid directory) in the terminal and when I launch InCrease, the "Install" button is grayed out. Did it install by it's self when I rebooted? Also when I go to close the terminal window I get "Picture 2" This is all so confusing. I will let it run...

I know Rower is 3 hours behind (Eastern vs. Pacific) so I will be patient and keep monitoring this Thread for any additional input from anyone.

Thanks, Sparky

I'm beginning to feel like wdlove so confused. can someone explain what I am seeing in this terminal window? and why it says invaild e-mail am I folding and getting proper credit?
I checked the Stanford page and in our team 3446 I was ranked 1131 with 13.1 points and 1 WU completed, this was before I switched to the console version FAH4-CLI, I just want to make sure I'm doing things right.

P.S. the link in the signature needs to be updated to: http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=3446

I went back and created the folders that InCrease said were invalid and as soon as I did the Install button became available. I thought all was going OK because the screen started to scroll with all kinds of stuff saying I was 14% complete, but then I noticed the EOF message as shown here:

OK, sorry to keep you waiting.

First off, RC5 is not folding related - it's a distributed computing project for cracking encryption. You should not run RC5 and F@H at the same time.

In Picture 5.pdf it appears as if the client is running OK, since you can see some progress has been made, but I would still start fresh because you might have some conflicting things going on with everything you downloaded.

I would kill any RC5 or F@H processes that are running (you can do this in Activity Monitor) and trash the executables files, too. Then, download mc68k's single CPU F@H script and run the 'setup_script.command' which will install everything for you - no need to download the separate CLI version from Stanford.
