I can't say that I use it any differently to my Apple TV 3 but I use it a lot. I use it for watching Netflix, YouTube and Amazon prime. Most importantly I use it to watch content from iTunes (movies and videos). I have a huge library.

I do play games from time to time too. The interface is much better on the new Apple TV and I prefer the Siri Remote to the older remote. So it was worth the upgrade.

Since when is Amazon Prime available on ATV4 or any ATV??? Dont tell me your forced to do that lame work around of streaming it from ipad or iphone.

I still have 3rd Apple TV.... Most of the problems i hear are related to 4th version...

I was thinking of just hooking up my 3 again. The podcast app is a mess in that you cannot organize/sort the shows. Whenever you add a podcast that's where it remains, it cannot be moved, its a mess especially since I have more than 100 tiles.
Also the photo app, not being able to delete photos from the device itself, has to be done through Icloud on another device.
Does Apple have any intention of fixing these things, because it feels very sloppy as of now.

Bought an ATV4 when it came out. Thought the app store addition and the games would be a great new addition. It was not. The game stuff is very lame. Would have been better off keeping my ATV3 as it worked fine for streaming movies, music and playing purchased movies/music and looking at photos off of my mac.

Now the only excitement I get with ATV4 is when there is a firmware update. :)

Maybe I just don't use it to its potential but I really see no difference in what ATV3 & ATV4 can do.

The only drawback going back to the the 3 is the terrible remote.

Wait -- you're blaming those of us who wanted an app store? It would have been very possible to build an ATV3-type device with a modern processor, faster networking, and an app store. For whatever reason, this wasn't the direction Apple went. Now we have some things we very much wanted mixed with some things that we took for granted that no longer work properly. That's on Apple, not those of us who wanted an ATV3 upgrade.

I was being more sarcastic then seriously blaming everyone. I have an AppleTV 4 lol so it's not like I'm not referring to myself as well.

That said I see why Apple drug their feet on implementing an App Store.

I just bought a brand new unit 32 gb off eBay for $78.

I figure buying a 4 at the price of a 3 is too good to pass up.

I am having the same feeling about the Movie and TV app. I feel they don't organize the content very well. I would like to strictly use home sharing but that is sketchy when it comes to waking my iMac. I'm torn. My video library is very important to me.
I've contemplated many times in the past other platforms. I've experimented quite a bit with the alternatives and for me personally nothing comes to Apple TV but I totally understand that you're torn. I think it would be awesome if they came out with a Videos app like on iOS that just shows our movie library instead of wedging it into the iTunes store.

Every time I fire up the Roku to browse Amazon Prime instant video I'm reminded why I don't miss it. It reminds me of Netflix 6 years ago. I think Man in the High Castle is the only thing that kept me coming back to the app for a bit. If it wasn't for prime shipping there is no way I'd pay for it.

We have a ATV3 and it's perfect for our usage, and I passed on the ATV4 waiting for 4k/HRD compatibility as I have a 4k 55" Vizio P that would LOVE to have content from an ATV5 :D

Any rumors on 4k/HRD compatibility??

We're sticking with it a bit longer…
The UI is incredibly difficult / tedious to use.
That new remote is so impractical it's almost funny, I don't think I've ever managed to pick it up without accidentally scrubbing or pausing a video.
Every time we come to view anything we have already purchased it is a long and drawn out procedure to get to it. Why are the icons so large? What is this trend these days to use up as much screen space as possible with as little as possible? Why is it so horribly slow to use? Ah! lets use Siri - oh wait, yes… Siri. Good for adverts, useless for anything beyond defaulting to an internet search of the thing it doesn't understand.

And that alphabet / character selection thing ought to be taught in schools as a 'how not to do' that type of thing.
We're only sticking with it because it cost so much money and at this point it's still feasible that this utter travesty of design isn't quite the finished thing.

The GUI is hard? What do you consider easy?

You do know you can use the Remote App, right?

What throws me is the app switcher which they changed in a previous update. It's awkward and wrong that you have to move the remote in the opposite direction to everywhere else in the GUI to use it.

Complete lie, anyone want to tell this person how the remote works for the last 5 months ?

Sold my Apple TV 4 on eBay. I just didn't get it. And iTunes (the Movie and TV app, I mean) is breathtakingly poor. Really quite astonishingly, comprehensively dismal.

What did you replace it with?
How are you liking this replacement device?

I have a smart TV with Amazon and Netflix built in. And I have Sky.

Don't miss the ATV at all.

What astonishes me more than anything is just how comprehensively awful the Movies and TV apps are. It boggles my mind.

I disconnected my Apple TV 4th gen a big waste of money.
  • Netflix is horrible. Pain to navigate. Shrinks the credits as other devices do but it is much harder to get them full screen. A swipe left then up and enter which is slow might work or it might freeze back to the play episode screen.
  • Can't disable IPv6 again with Netflix and HE.net which is no longer a problem BTW He.net works with the IPv6 tunnel now.
  • No Amazon Instant app.
  • No PSVue app.
  • No Vudu app.
  • Watch Disney channel, XD still have poor PQ while streaming.
  • Remote is the worst ever. Pain to swipe. Easy to break which is why I had to get a case for it the first remote ever.
  • Wired is bugged out as it was with the 3rd gen. Wireless is all I can use reliable.
  • Also random crashes to the springboard are annoying.
I went back to my Roku Stick and AFTV.

I use my ATV4 for most everything, but I use the 2016 Roku Streaming Stick for Amazon Prime, MHz-Choice, SlingTV and sometimes Plex. I like the new-ish Roku Plex app better, it's snappier to navigate and requires less button presses for a lot of the functionality.

On the ATV4, Sling is awful -- it randomly crashes, or the stream just stops -- or freezes, whereas it works perfectly on the Roku. Once they fix that, and get Prime and MHz-Choice apps -- I won't need the Roku. I have a Chromecast as well, but it resides in the junk drawer cemetery for antiquated tech ;)

That's strange. Sling & Plex work great on my ATV4. Plex on my Roku 3 is a dumpster fire. It only works for very low quality encodings while the ATV4 will play anything I throw at it.
for I only have 2 complaints:
1: No Amazon video (for the occasional exclusive content)
2: No browser.
