Seeing as he used the same internet handle elsewhere, MR and anywhere else he posted such information will probably be subpoenaed for the user account and posting information. Making this thread didn't change that aspect.
Did he use the same handle on Twitter? If not, I disagree with your point as on MR he would be just a user listing what he heard from somewhere. This very specific post links him to his sister, while his other posts don’t.

From what I recall seeing from an article link, he did use the same 9:41 username.
So let’s get this straight.
His sister gets a job at Apple, she leaks info to him, he tweets it out, using the same handle he opens a MR account and leaks here, then she’s fed wrong info, he keeps leaking everywhere, they get caught, and he writes an admission of fault that clearly links him to his sister? 😂 wow. Just wow.

well, it's a fact that when you sign an employment contract you sign not to reveal confidential information. period. so the sister being terminated is the logical consequence.
beyond that, that is a tricky thing and we do not have all the info ...

What else is there to learn? Apple seeds rumors about products in order to identify leakers (employees) and they are tightening the net. That's part why Gurman, Kuo just throw things out these days and we almost never hear from Prosser anymore ...

It would depend on what was his function. He could be like the tens of known “leakers” (Kuo etc) or he could be part of the conspiracy.
Granted we don't know any details of how things occurred but, look up the California Trade Secrets Act (2022) sections sections 3426 to 3426.11 of the California Civil Code.

(a) "Improper means" includes theft, bribery, misrepresentation, breach or inducement of a breach of a duty to maintain secrecy, or espionage through electronic or other means. Reverse engineering or independent derivation alone shall not be considered improper means.

(b) "Misappropriation" means:

(1) Acquisition of a trade secret of another by a person who knows or has reason to know that the trade secret was acquired by improper means; or(2) Disclosure or use of a trade secret of another without express or implied consent by a person who A) Used improper means to acquire knowledge of the trade secret; or(B) At the time of disclosure or use, knew or had reason to know that his or her knowledge of the trade secret was i) Derived from or through a person who had utilized improper means to acquire it;(ii) Acquired under circumstances giving rise to a duty to maintain its secrecy or limit its use; or(iii) Derived from or through a person who owed a duty to the person seeking relief to maintain its secrecy or limit its use; or(C) Before a material change of his or her position, knew or had reason to know that it was a trade secret and that knowledge of it had been acquired by accident or mistake.

A Google search will show that this individual indeed did post "leaks" on other sites, too, including Twitter. Although he or she offers their public PGP key to anyone who wants to communicate further, my suggestion is that contacting this former member would not be a good idea since this situation is a very serious legal issue.

Yep. He’s done. He’s basically at the mercy of Apple’s lawyers.

Seriously thought this was a suicide note. But either way, it feels inappropriate. But I guess the mods will take care if they deem it so.
I don't think this is inappropriate, they were a valuable source of leaks (even if the way they leaked was very risky) and it's important to know why they won't be here anymore. At worst, it should be archived for future viewing.

Apple sounds petty. iPad versions of FCP and Logic Pro? Stop the presses, it's the leak of the century. Good grief.

That's not the issue, the issue is continuous leaks. The FCP + Logic Pro just happened to help get them caught. Leaks are serious business, wrong rumors get out and can affect huge things like supply chain contracts and competitive advantage. Apple is well within their right to go after leakers.

"One more thing…" couldn't be a surprise if we knew everything. On one hand, I love reading the info--been a member here since 2003. On the other hand, a company whose goal is to make money and stay in business (and I hope they do because I like their products) uses secrecy and surprise to make headlines and sell products.

I'm a pastor on staff at a small church in the country, people here like to know what is going on, we all do. It makes us feel like we know what is going on. Now, multiply that to a trillions dollars company with someone working for someone who is visible on the keynotes, and any info that gets out gets a bunch of credit and likes and shares, and it helps even anonymous people feel validated.

We all know this was not the best way to handle it, but then again we all know if we had a relative who works under senior management at Apple we'd be dying to scoop up any info we could get out of them.

Here's what I don't (and likely will never) understand: why would someone do such a thing? That's very much misuse of confidential information, both on his and his sister's part.

But I think this could just simply be a failure of my poor little brain.

1. No need to minimize your thoughts or intelligence.

2. Look up "Jack Teixeira" on your favorite search site. HIs end game wasn't money but the underlying motivation and chosen forum are similar.

Hello everyone.

This is my final message to everyone.

I will no longer be around, but you deserve a proper goodbye. I don’t want to share too many details right now because of the legality of things — but a multi-step sting has gotten my sister fired from Apple, and unfortunately I am afraid next is legal action being taken against both of us, separately.

I can’t believe I did this, I’m so sorry to my sister and Apple as a whole. I don’t know what else to say. I know she is destroyed, she also hates me right now, like I don’t even know that I have a sister anymore.

I don’t know if I even have a life beyond this, I don’t know what can happen at this point.

I enjoyed the ride, to any body out there who gets a source, keep the details at a minimum. It could be costly.

The breaking point was multiple, if not almost all who knew about FCP/Logic iPad development was given a unique combination of release dates — unfortunately the combination I shared on Twitter matched the combination given to my sister as the FCP+Logic timeframe, along with other small factors.

I may have shared too much here regarding this situation already, but goodbye. Thanks for taking the time to meet me. Learn from me and don’t let it happen to you or anyone you love.

My PGP key is on my MacRumors posts. Please save it if you ever want to contact me in the future. I will be deleting this account within 24 hours for my safety.

I know this post is random, please don’t remove it if you can help it.
My public PGP key is on my MacRumors profile for anyone wondering, get it while you can.

All the very best to you and I hope you come through this. Thanks for your contribution.
