Wireless charging is optional, not a requirement. The real crime here is not including a HDMI cable with Apple TV.

Wouldn't using the iPad chargers with higher capacity do the same?

I'm referring to the regular USB to lightning iPad chargers with higher wattage.

I'm very curious about this, as well.

However, even if the iPad chargers (12W and 10W) provide some level of quick charging to the iPhone X, it still likely won't be as "quick" as with one of the USB Type C chargers (29W and up).

I think that's just the case here. It would be faster than the 5w but it won't be as fast as the 29w with USB-C combo.

Since the days of my 6+, I the way I use my phone, I can easily go 2 days without charging my phone at all. With heavy usage, the most I'd have to do is charge it every night as I go to sleep.

So, I've purchased 2 wireless charging pads (Anker) - one for work and one for the side of my bed. Between these two, my phone should be more than covered charge wise. At work my phone spends 99.9% of its time upside down not being used. Presumably, it will just be "topped off" all the time.

For rapid charging, I assume using a 12watt iPad Charger still charges a lot faster than the included 1amp brick (which I assume is still included). This always "rapid charged" fast enough for me - same for my Anker battery bricks.

I imagine Anker will come out with a $20-$30 "rapid charger" for the iPhone 8+ in the near future that I may look into.

Apple has never included “optional” accessories. Another poster pointed out switching to lightning there was a converter in the box.

I personally would like to see Apple include more but I understand that when I buy the product.

But to your point I have iPad bricks and desk has a 12 watt built in, my car has a high wattage charger and I have an anker 20000+ mah charger so I can have 4 or 5 full charges without plugging in. I have lightning cables virtually everywhere I go.

Agreed, and to expect Apple to change is insane. Someday maybe I'll save up for the rapid charging, but like you, I have Anker chargers everywhere, with lightning cables (including an Anker 4.8a car charger).

Will the usb-c charger that came with my macbook pro late 2016 (non touch bar) 61watts work? I’m using it on my ipad pro 10.5 and it charges faster... hope it also works to fast charge the iphone8/X... thanks in advance :)

Also would like to ask since i’m not quite familiar with fast charging, it says 30mins to get to 50%, does this mean a full charge will only take an hour? Or the other 50% charge will sort of revert to the regular charge speed? Thanks

do yourself a favor and read this thread. Everything has been tested for you. You HAVE to use an APPLE usb c to lighting cable. not a 3rd party cable

Thanks sir, yup I already have the usb c to lightning using it on my ipad pro 10.5 to fast charge, just not sure what happens after it charges the iphone 8/X to 50% in 30mins if the other half charges same speed then its full charge at 1 hour which is great, or does it revert to regular speed after the 50% fast charge

In Apple's perspective:

1. Box Size -- They are going for the shipment size of each box. Including a larger charger would mean that their box's footprint will increase and thus shipping fewer units per plane load (USA). Take a look at the boxes of HK and UK-model iPhones and you'll understand why.
2. Smaller battery (for iPhone X) -- They are advertising battery life increase versus iPhone 7 which is a SMALLER phone. I get that getting a 5W charger on the Plus is horrific but charging the X might take a little bit longer than 7's but definitely a shorter period versus the Plus.
3. Battery longevity concerns. Fast-charging is a double-edged sword. Yeah, you can get going after an hour of charging BUT your battery lifespan will take a hit (not significantly though, but it's there nonetheless). This could trigger in-warranty replacement scenario for most phones that can't hold 80% charge within a year of purchase. This would be costly for Apple.
4. Speculation --- 10w in 5w body - They MIGHT be trying to squeeze in the internals of a 10W iPad Charger in a 5W charger's body and its still in development. I doubt they'll include 29W charger EVER. For all intent and purposes, the 10w charger is FAST ENOUGH to charge my 7 Plus in time. 29W is nice to have but seems like overkill unless you also have an iPad Pro.

I guess time will tell!
