In just a few short decades the entire working class of this planet will be able to text at a feverish pace and will have absolutely no clue how to interact face to face. In true Asimov fashion they'll abhor the thought of being in physical proximity of others.

Looks like noone has realize that the 25s record done by Swype was likely done one-handed since that is how Swype is primarily used. The person in the video is using two hands.

I think this is interesting to counter all those people who insist that an on-screen keyboard (especially the iPhone's) is bad for "serious" typing. As for myself, I type as fast on the iPhone as I do on my desktop keyboard. So I'm happy with it.

You type slow.

I look forward to the phone I can type at 100+ WPM on. :)

Still love the iPhone keyboard though.

I don't have fat fingers by any margin but I find that landscape mode there is much less room for errors. In portrait the keys are crammed and it is very easy to make mistakes.

Did the girl on the Samsung get to practice typing that very sentence? The guy in the iPhone video probably practiced several times before beating her record. In order for this to be valid, I would think all contestants should not know what they are going to type beforehand.

I'm typing this on my iPhone. I only type with one finger on my iPhone. But that guy is awesome I could never type that fast but I think I do type somewhat fast. Let's hope this guy gets some word record recognition.

Sigh

Speaking as a really fast typer I found way back in high school that I could push 130-140 wpm by using less fingers since efficiency of motion seems to dictate the more fingers I subtracted the faster I could go to a point. Everyone who sees me type usually gapes in amazement but it's because I've typed with just 3 fingers for 30-some years.

I use the same theory on guitar - if I'm ever playing guitar with someone and they start pulling the fast licks on me I can often go as fast or faster using the same method.

That being said, one heck of a fast typing video on that phone. Bravo!
