I agree with those saying Swype isn't that big a deal. I had it on my Samsung Captivate, and too often would it ask for the word I wanted, or mess it up when it tried to predict to be useful for anything other than a one word text. I would try it, then always switch back to the Android keyboard.

If I am correct, 159 characters in 15 seconds means that your speed was 127 WPM. Are you sure you typed the entire phrase?

I live on my iphone. I would normally reply to this on my iphone but it just so happens that I am in front of my mac pro.

Really - I run a small IT firm and I do 100 - 300 emails a day from iphone. No joke. Just really fast.

I did misspell a few words in that phrase, so not a real comparison. probably 20-22 seconds if it was perfect.

Did the girl on the Samsung get to practice typing that very sentence? The guy in the iPhone video probably practiced several times before beating her record. In order for this to be valid, I would think all contestants should not know what they are going to type beforehand.

Not only was the girl fast, she probably did it one-handed considering that is what Swype was made for

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A400 Safari/6531.22.7)

All I can say is holy cr@p that was fast!

I take it she isn't running iOS 4 on an iPhone 3G. She would have broke the world recored for slowest texting on an iPhone.

I've always been faster on the iphone than other phones/blackberries.

Not having to actually PRESS down physical keys is a big help...once you get used to it.

I've had an iPod Touch for a couple years now and type on it often but still have a hard time with it. My preferred method has always been a good Nokia keypad - that's one of the main things I've been looking for. Usually when I'm on my mobile I'm walking or driving (yeah , I know it's wrong) so I like what's easiest for that. If Nokia's T9 didn't have problems (barely remembers any words, remembers incorrect words, moves new words to front of cycle), it would really be perfect. I have a N97 Mini trial from Nokia right now but typing on their virtual keypad w/out the physical pull out keyboard is just a pain. Just my opinion.

I think I am going to practice to beat this record. Currently this is the only video I have of my fast typing skills. This was a simple video to show a forum member that I could indeed type as fast as I claimed.

I can easily get 90WPM on that website.

No, it's roughly 55. On an average speed test, I could do over 70.

Nice. Sounds about right.

Most impressive video.

Please note the following:
No auto correction is used in the application Mark is using.
No AutoText is used or implemented or accessible.
Just simple PLAIN text entry and backspacing used to correct mispelled typed words.
Do NOT make fun to insult his elation near the end - Mark was born deaf, so he has no clue what he really sounds like.

Compare.

I can hunt ’n' peck like a madman with an index finger (or two when the iPhone is lying on a table). But thumbs for typing have never come naturally to me on any device. I’ll keep trying!

I certainly don’t miss having physical keys to get gummed up.
