It's horrible timing for me! My weight fluctuates between 151 and 154 in the summer months, and between 155 and 158 the rest of the year. I was up around 170-172 a few years ago, but eating smaller portions and getting more aerobic exercise has kept those pounds at bay.

3 lb fluctuation is normal. Added weight between even 151 and 157 from summer to winter is normal too. You usually eat more with cold weather.

When you weigh less, maybe 1-2 pound fluctuation, could it be before and after a poop? :p

Must be a pretty gnarly poop.

typically the first 10lbs of weight loss isn't necesarrily fat. Your body can hold up to 10lbs of water at any given time. But as long as you keep your mind in the game you will be fine! SHRED THOSE POUNDS BABY!

Awesome. I've been trying to lose some weight for a while, this seems to be a perfect thread for me. Recently lost 20 pounds, and I want to go lower. My usual routine is swimming laps for 2-3 hours a day, but I'm not as religious about it as I should be.

Height: 5'2''
Start Weight: 160
Current Weight: 145
Target Weight: 110

went to Oktoberfest last night...sigh, gonna have to workout extra hard on monday!

Well, yeah, but normal waste disposal doesn't tip the scales any.

Hum, I've had half pound pees in the morning (when I was still too much asleep and stepped on the scale before peeing only to remember all that liquid needing to come out!).

Seriously, normal waste disposal might not account for 2-3 lbs, but trainers will tell you to go before using things like In Body to measure your body composition. It does make a difference and does tip the scale somewhat.

What are some of your secrets to getting the 160g+ of protein per day?

I'm sure we're all sick of protein powder and chicken breasts...

Quark, quark and quark. One small box (250g) of quark contains 30g of protein (12g per 100g). I eat 2-3 of those per day and 150-200g of meat/chicken/fish plus all other things which contain at least some protein.

I don't eat any protein powders or stuff like that, I only drink a recovery drink after workout. IMO those powders are for people who don't know how to eat right. Some bodybuilders may need them as they have to eat so much protein but "normal" people should be fine without extra tricks.

P.S. Tried new triceps exercise today, damn it was a killer.

I've never heard of quark. I've never been a big fan of cottage/ricotta cheese and google tells me they're similar.

I'm doing protein powder during workouts and a recovery drink afterwards. Protein shake before bed too. During the day I'm doing chicken breasts, snacking on almonds, greek yogurt for breakfast, more chicken/fish for dinner. Veggies all day and "no" carbs after 2pm.

Does anyone else find it difficult to eat 6 times a day? I work in an office where everyone takes lunch from 12-1pm. These people are 3 meals a day people. I usually am eating breakfast at 7am, snacking at 10am, small lunch around 12pm, snacking again around 3, dinner around 6. It's difficult in my office though to be working and eating at the same time throughout the day, any tips?

I don't even bother. The key for me was to just start eating smaller portions on those 3 meals, as opposed to putting myself into a food coma. I always try to be active and have some part of my body feel sore. It's kinda funny how when you're routinely working out, your body will pretty much tell you when to eat and how much. When you're not, you want to eat everything.

Anyway I'm 5'7", 160 lbs, my target is 145, and I was at 170 before the summer. I weightlift, run on the elliptcal for a half hour a day, and do Krav Maga once a week. I also use protein powder for recovery along with Glutamine after every weighttraining session where I know I'm gonna be sore the next day.

Cool thread. Good to hear other peoples' strategies

you don't need to eat 6 times a day, it's different for everyone work/school/..time. If you're trying to lose weight, as long as you eat within your calorie deficit of 500-1000 calories you will lose weight. Some people eat one big meal a day, and the rest of the day they'll sip on protein shake, and that's what works for them.

For me, I eat breakfast, lunch, pre workout shake, post workout shake, dinner and then before bed snack. And I'm taking in between 2000-2300 calories.

Don't nutritionists say that eating small amounts often (healthy food, of course) is better than gorging yourself infrequently? Think I've heard that plenty of times.

it really depends on ones body, everyone is different. 2000 calories in 4-5 meals is the same as 2000 calories in 6 meals.

Why are you eating 6 times a day? If you're hungry, eat until your full (not stuffed). Next time you are hungry, eat.

Because I have read differently. I have read that when trying to lose weight, it is much better to each small meals very frequently in order to keep your metabolism running i.e. burning calories. You stop eating and your metabolism slows and will make it much more difficult to burn calories at rest.
