Hey, thank you! We all need a reliable way to test our replacements (one on the way as well) and it looks like you found it. I appreciate the help!

Hang on.. so we have to install boot camp, then windows, then test.. is there NO application for OSX to test the GPU?

Alright, I'm plugged in and just started a project in Handbrake right now to the Apple TV format. It says about 1h37m to go until complete.

And to add a little more intensity...I put on the flurry screen saver while it encodes. My computer is getting warmer, as it should under this load.

Mine's been cooking for awhile. It's 79% complete. I'm writing from it to say that I don't have lines.

I will keep trying ways to stress my gfx card but I don't think I have this problem.

That would have been great for me, I got lines about 10 minutes into it a 1 hour encode, and it'd progressively get worse until the heat topped out.

yup.. its back

yeah i just been rendering out a full broadcast HD file in Motion.. 10 mins later.. the lines are back...not had them all night.

Back we go to uncle Steve.

I wanna bitch slap that man.

It trully is a sad day when you have to worry about this crap with a NEW $3000 laptop. Shame on Apple. I have went through my won battle, where I came out a winner. I wish I could battle them for every person on here, getting this crap for their hard earned money. Fight the good fight boys, let Apple know they can't do this crap and get away with it. "well we'll send you a new one to replace it," That's good what ells are you going to send for my time waisted?! :D Oh and lord have mercy of the new one is messed up!

I agree. For that kind of money we're really allowed to expect higher QC. Although this is more NVIDIA's problem - if they don't start fixing the faulty cards they're in for some choppy water.

doesn't make sense.

There's no sense to this but it's as if Apple know there's problems but send the units out on a basis that people may not notice.

They calculate it will cost less to repair or replace a few units than delay the main shipments. A long delay means people buy some other model and loss of profits.

I think there was a similar famous case in the USA with Ford cars? They knew some of their cars would explode killing the occupants, but a leaked legal document showed that they calculated that they would lose less by paying peoples claims of neglegance rather than change or halt the production of this model car n

I made my complains at Apple Care.

After following some support procedures and some tests, Apple decided to replace my 17" uni MBP for a new one.

The new 17" MBP Apple will be send as a new order, the old one will be picked up by TNT.

Hopefully the new MBP doesn't have the graphics issues......

I don't think it stresses it enough either, and I also have been looking for something that can stress test a GPU on a mac. The only thing I can think of is to install windows on my mac just to run something. Will Windows 2000 Professional install in bootcamp? It's the only copy I have of windows. The app someone here recommended looks good. Here's the post from someone else here...

im gonna install maya and nuke as soon as i get mine to really push the gpu

Mine is okay

I just received my 2.93 matte today and was a bit worried so really put this machine to its limits on the 9600.

All these tasks were running at one time: Cinebench, ripping a dvd at the highest quality in Handbrake, watching 2 movies off of an external hard drive, have that high rez image as my desktop, watching an hd 1080p Transformers trailer, watching a trailer of a movie in itunes, watching a youtube video, all while having about 10 internet pages open in Safari.

The max I could get the cpu to hit was 91 percent. The cinebench got it up there when it performed the dual processor test. With all of the above going on at one time, I could view all of the movies and trailers without missing a frame. No stuttering whatsoever! No green lines. Nothing. To top it off the computer isn't really that warm compared to my old MBP 15" 2.33. I was running at this intensity for about 20 minutes, but have been ripping a dvd for the last hour and a half while watching movies, etc.. Anyone having the "lines" issue should just send theirs back. After these tests, I think it is safe to say that you shouldn't experience any lines no matter what.

could u please tell us the build number ? what week was it manuf'ed ?
