...but some where re-released during the 80s, or simply didn't break into the list before that...

More than a couple of my (excessive) list above was also originally released in the 70s...

But they were written and recorded in the 70s, therefore they're not songs of the 80s.

Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody
Every time I hear this song on the radio, I want to get out of my chair and dance! Dance spicyapple, dance!

The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men

Toto Coelo - I Eat Cannibals
How can you not love this song?

Starship - Nothing Is Gonna Stop Us Now
Anthem of my pre-teen years when love was less complicated.

Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
Cathy Dennis - Too Many Walls
Sonny and Cher of my generation. They are teh best!

worst taste in music ever!

just kidding...but this sure affirms your femaleness

Okay, so last night I went out to downtown Annapolis, which was really cool by the way, and they played a bunch of 80's songs. You know what's neat though, is that whenever a DJ plays 80s songs, the crowd goes nuts, and get's all into it.

So I'm making an 80s cd for the car.

I got Bon Jovi, Bruce Hornsby. Bryan Adams, Def Leppard, Hall and Oats, Huey Lewis, Jefferson Starship, John Mellencamp, Journey, Kool and the Gang, Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Night Ranger, The Outfield, Phil Collinss, Ray Parker Jr., Rick Springfield, Scorpions, Survivor, Toto, Van Halen, and Whitesnake...

So far it's very nostalgic

Aha - Take on me.

So jolly. so sad. poor pencil people :(

Tears for Fears are my fave 80's stuff. NO! New Order! or Human League (before they went "pop"py though).

I have a special place for love will tear us apart - joy division.

I also loves me some AC/DC.

This question is too hard!!!

I just don't know if I could pick one song. Think about different genres, moods, time periods, etc.

For example, do I pick the music that was my favorite back then? Or do I pick the 80's music that I'm still listening to today? I guess I'll pick a mix of both and list some of the greats:

Prince: 1999, When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy, U Got the Look
New Order: Bizarre Love Triangle, Thieves Like Us
The Cure: Fascination Street, Pictures of You
U2: Where the Streets Have No Name, Two Hearts Beat as One, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Gloria
Peter Gabriel: Sledgehammer, In Your Eyes, the entire "Last Temptation of Christ" soundtrack
The Police: Every Breath You Take, Every Little Thing She Does is Magic
Madonna: Vogue, Get Into the Groove

There's no way I could pick out *the* top song from any of the above. And I'm probably forgetting 1000 other songs that were just as good...
