LOL yep and Little Britain. The older ones I loved, Only Fools and Horses. I miss that.

Can't forget EastEnders

I'm glad there's a least one sensible person here who agrees with me. :p j/k all! Lisa - did you ever catch the sketch they did for charity where Lauren actually met with the cast of Eastenders? I had no idea what that show was until then, but the sketch was hilarious. If you haven't seen it yet, you really should.

Dad's Army is fantastic and anyone who suggests otherwise is quite, quite wrong.

I can't stand most of the 'new' British comedy. I loathe Catherine Tate and Little Britain was funny the first time round but got tired very very quickly.

You've all got the Red Dwarf song stuck in my head too now. You can also add me to the list that adored Father Ted. ;)

But currently I'm most looking forward to the old 'late 80s' Absolutely sketch show coming out on DVD next month. I remember it as one of the funniest things I've ever seen but since I haven't seen it for over a decade, I'm hoping I'm not disappointed when the box set turns up next month!

Stoneybridge!!!

Well, you could be me with that and the various Star Trek Themes and the Imperial March going around in my head all the time.
TEG
Speaking of the Imperial March, fans of Starwars should watch Family Guy's Blue Harvest, very funny parody... where the elevator in the Deathstar plays the Muzak version of Vader's theme (the Imperial March). :D

Oh and back on topic, another funny Brit show is "Who's line is it anyway?", some would be more familiar with Drew Carey's version... but Clive Anderson's show was there first and had great comedic talent too.

Including most of the people who ended up on the American version. But I agree - very funny.

I forgot all about WLIIA(UK), the US version is on every night on abcFamily, but I haven't see the UK version since it went off of Comedy Central (and I don't have a cable package with BBC America).

Right, that's it, enough's enough - the next person to include Father Ted in a list of British TV shows will be forced to listen to Queen's Greatest Hits non-stop for six months. Let that be a lesson to you.

PS Is it true that the Space Shuttle is Canadian?

Contrary to popular belief Father Ted was actually a British produced and financed show mostly shot in London studios and written by two irish guys.

I would add

The Royle Family
Men Behaving Badly (much better than the US version)
Extras
Whatever Happened to The Likely Lads
Dinner Ladies
Coupling (absolutely brilliant BRILLIANT BRILLIANT but so short lived)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vb9KK92XnlM&feature=related
The Good Life (classic 70's stuff)
Butterflies ( a well crafted classic of a show, never since equalled) a clip below

Some absolute classics there, LiveForever.

What about Bread by the same author who wrote Butterflies? That was good at the start, but went downhill a bit later.

Other faves, (some already mentioned):
BlackAdder (all)
Red Dwarf
Fawlty Towers
Morecambe and Wise
It Ain't half hot,mum!
Are you being served
WLIIA (with John Sessions! - saw him do a one man show ages ago, amazing)
Have I got news for you (with Paul Merton)

I love stuff like Blackadder and Red Dwarf, but the series that seems to always make me laugh hardest is Only Fools and Horses. Its not something I'll watch six episodes of in a row but whenever I put it on I crack up.

All time Favourites:

Spaced (I hear theres a US version in the works)
Red Dwarf
'Allo 'Allo
Peep Show (absolute must watch!)

Anyone who doesnt know 'Allo 'Allo it was a long running comedy about a Cafe owner called René Artois and set in German occupied France. Always full of innuendo, silly accents and an endless quest for an elusive painting called 'the fallen Madonna with the big boobies'! classic! :D
