Surprised not to see more Green Wing mentions. Brilliant show.

Fawlty Towers and Coupling. Excellent but so short lived.

Men Behaving Badly is pretty damn funny too.

Those are the only shows I really like that I've seen almost if not all the episodes and feel qualified to comment on. Lots I like and just need to see more of.

I need to get Spaced and Absolutely Fabulous.

Shelley

James Shelley is highly educated and has a PhD in Geography. He is also unemployed and has no intention of working. He lives with his girlfriend Fran in a bedsit at the home of Mrs. Hawkins (known as Mrs. H).

Most of the episodes see Shelley either battling with the local labour exchange (job centre) or with various employers in short-lived jobs.

The later episodes see Shelley and Fran married and the birth of their daughter Emma, bu eventually Fran gets tired of Shelley's laziness and leaves him. The last two series see Shelley living on his own in a bachelor flat.

On The Buses

Stan Butler works as a bus driver for the Luxton & District Bus Company. He lives at home with his slightly overbearing mother, his frumpy sister Olive and his lazy brother in law Arthur.

Stan's route is the number 11 to the Cemetery Gates which he works with his conductor Jack. Stan and Jack have an eye for the ladies and are often found chatting up either the 'clippies' (female bus conductors) or the canteen staff.

The bane of Stan's life is Inspector Cyril 'Blakey' Blake who is often checking up of them and threatening them with the sack for lateness and untidyness. His catchphrase is "I 'ate you Butler!".

Chef!

Gareth Blackstock (Lenny Henry) is a master chef with an obsessive drive for culinary perfection, with no friends or outside interests other than his wife Janice, (Caroline Lee-Johnson) and remarkable verbal talents used primarily to creatively abuse his unfortunate staff of assistant cooks, although he is perfectly prepared to give the same treatment to waiters, management, suppliers, bankers, and, occasionally, customers.

Totally agree with many of the replies especially Coupling which is so hillarious.

Its not British but Summer Heights High is an Australian comedy and is probably the best comedy Iv'e seen in the last few years.Chris Illie is the writer/performer and he is just a formidable talent.

He plays several adult and school age charachters including:

British comedy and BBC drama is pretty much all I watch on TV.

I'm Alan Partridge (possibly the best show ever, ever)
Spaced (2nd best? Surreal events but grounded in reality)
The IT Crowd (wasn't keen at first but it's really grown on me, Moss makes it)
Black Books (Beautiful mad stuff)
Garth Marenghi (Spoof horror/hospital show with some memorable lines "He'll make it, just, but the chickens off")
League of Gentlemen (More bizarre comedy, but hey it's set near me :D they opened the floodgates for cult/bizarre comedy to the mainstream)
Have I got news for you (the only show that really makes me cry laughing)
Phoenix Nights (Really good observations, realistic characters and settings. Peter Kays finest hour fo' sho')
Green Wing (lovely surreal stuff again, at 20 hour long episodes it's quite a biggun too)

Harry Hill's TV Burp is pretty good too. It's quite low brow but he's just a modern day clown. Incredible observations.

The first season of Coupling and the last season of Blackadder are hilarious. I'll also second the Thin Blue Line and My Hero and Jeeves and Wooster. I always liked As Time Goes By, but I'm not if that counts as a comedy, but if its not, I don't really know what it is.

Well, you could be me with that and the various Star Trek Themes and the Imperial March going around in my head all the time.

I'm definitely going to have the Imperial March in my head the next few days as we're performing it (and the entire Star Wars suite) at our Symphony concert tomorrow night. :D

Bottom wiped it's arse with other British comedies.

I bought the whole series...that show is fantastic. Rick Mayall is the sketchiest dude in the world.

I just watched The Extras finale last night. It got a little too dramatic maybe, but still had some seriously cringy humor.

I also saw a youtube clip of the ill-fated US pilot of Red Dwarf...I can see why no network picked that up.

I wasn't aware that there even was one! I'll have to check it out on YouTube for amusement's sake...

It's pretty bad. Kryten is played by the same actor as the original Red Dwarf, but the rest of the cast is composed of D-list American actors, and the scripts are indifferent.

It's an interesting tidbit for the Red Dwarf fan though.
