i work at a ben & jerrys scoopshop, and my non-bias oppinion is deff ben & jerrys all the way...my favorite flavors at the moment are chunky monkey(banana ice cream with almonds and chocolate chunks) and primary berry gram(strawberry cheesecake ice cream w/ a gramcracker swirl).

Here's my report on Cold Stone Creamery, where we went last night with some friends: We tried two flavors of ice cream. Both had a mediocre taste. Next time I'll try another place.

What flavors of ice cream did you try Doctor Q? If you have like ice cream there before, don't be too harsh. ;)

We tried French vanilla with cherry pie filling and their featured cotton candy flavor with marshmallows. Neither ice cream was very good and the toppings weren't very fresh tasting either. Maybe they just had an off night.

Both of those sound delicious. I would recommend visit the place again, but ask for a sample prior to purchase. Would highly recommend the practice.

do they still have the Brenham ice cream festival?? although i agree it's pretty good, they're only carried in the grocery stores. i miss the old singing cow commercials! :)

Best Ice Cream store I've ever been to is Fentons in Oakland, California. Not only is the ice cream unbelievable, but they give you portions that would fill up the most ardent fan of the frozen dessert.

Althought i'm not in the mood, as i just got back from cheese cake factory in Chestnut hill MA, should have gone to apple store accross the street, instead i ended up at abercrombie (i got a sweater for $9.90  )

off topic, but that abercrombie in the atrium mall has some odd deals, i got shorts there for 10.00 once...
and yea, you should have gone to the apple store ;-)

um, on topic, i like jp licks.

My experience was apparently not unique. In the March 2005 Consumer Reports Magazine, they judged four ice cream chain stores.

Rated excellent: Häagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's

Rated very good: Baskin-Robbins

Rated good: Cold Stone Creamery

They described the ice cream at Häagen-Dazs as "creamy, smooth, dense", at Ben & Jerry's as "balanced", and at Baskin-Robbins and Cold Stone Creamery as "gummy" and "generic flavor".

So who's ready for a trip to Farrell's?

Back in the 70's, (when insanity was more of a life style) I accepted a challenge to see who could eat an entire Zoo. There were two of us who accepted the challenge. We both finished ours off, but my opponent, after forcing down his last gulp, calmly walked outside and sprayed several shrubs with a cool eruption of undigested ice cream.

ice cream

Sorry, but the best premium ice cream is Culver's. Oh so creamy! Cold Stone is not even in the same category!

Any one that sells ice cream. I love the stuff.

I really love Haagan Daz Marble Slab Creamery, and Dairy Queen (how can you not love dipped cones?).

Marble Slab is the one I go to most often because it's close by, but the only thing that disappoints me about them is that they lack CHOCOLATE SAUCE. Real chocolate sauce I mean. I got this perfect cup of ice cream and asked for some chocolate sauce on mine and the people gave me this blank stare, and put some Hershey's syrup on it. Hershey's! It ruined the ice cream because that syrup isn't even chocolate; it's a vile, vile, watery tasting concoction that is the source of all that is evil.

Holy Thread Revival Batman!

Paolo's Gelato. I know it's not real ice cream but it's similar. :)

Oh, it's only a year and change.

Baskin-Robbins is my favourite but for frozen custard, it's Kohr Brothers. Anyone from the Atlantic City, New Jersey area will know it but they have stores in Floriduh, too.

The best is a little mom-and-pop shop that is so popular (homemade ice cream) that they ship to other stores in the area... Marianne's in Santa Cruz. Mm. Amazing ice cream.

Then Häagen-Dazs, and then Baskin Robbins.

We bought some "home-made smoothie" kits at the supermarket this week, which weren't bad, but not as good as ice cream. Ummm... :D

Seeing as I missed this thread the first time around...

I'd have to say the ice cream we have where I work. :D

Mmmm. SoCo. The plant is only 20 minutes from our store...and is so small it might as well be homemade.

Last year we had Berkshire Ice Cream. It was better but *extremely* expensive.

Both are the ice cream equivalents of tiny beer microbreweries.

I also get free ice cream while at work. :D

Coldstones!!! They don't have it in Canada (or at least not that I knwo of) but last time I was in Palm Springs I had it and it was amazing! WAAAY better than ben and Jerry's. I wish they in Vanocuer :(

In vancouver, I'd have to say that Amato Gelato has to be the best.

Lappert's Ice Cream out in Hawaii. I never eat ice cream on a regular basis but when I was out there never missed going there. Sometimes went twice in one day.

The best flavor by far would have to be Tutu's Anniversary which is like a half Coconut flavor ice cream mixed with a berry tasting sorbet. Simply brilliant

A little place called Dewar's in the Bakersfield, CA area. I love that place.

But national chains would have to Cold Stone.

Edit: I forgot international and that would be any Gelato place in Italy.
