Lappert's Ice Cream out in Hawaii. I never eat ice cream on a regular basis but when I was out there never missed going there. Sometimes went twice in one day.

I always thought that Lappert's was pretty overrated. More of a tourist destintion than anything else. Haven't been there in a few years, so maybe it's gotten better.

I work at coldstone and I must say I love that ice cream but after a while all you really want is a local ice cream shop with a flavor burst. Also I agree that some of the flavors taste artificial and gummy. But you must try cake batter, peanut butter and chocolate.

i love cold stone creamery, i cant remember the name, but i get the cheesecake ice cream with strawberries, grahamcracker pie crust, the whipped topping or whatever it is mixed in, and its supposed to have blueberries but i get extra strawberries. two of my favorite things, cheesecake and strawberries, made into ice cream and i cant lose.

There's a local chain here in Connecticut called Ashley's. Excellent!

And then there's another hole in the wall place that serves adult flavored ice cream. Ice cream with liquor based flavors!

Best ice Cream Shop

While visiting a company North of Columbus Ohio, my host took us to a Ice cream shop in Delaware, Ohio called Ollies Fine Ice Cream. Their ice cream was excellent, made on the spot and served in a beautiful 1800's house. There was a patio in the back under shade trees, it was like steping back into the past. A great experience and great ice cream. Try Oatmeal Chunk!

i'm several hundred miles away from it, but my favorite is polly ann ice cream in san francisco. since i can't get that whenever i please, i'm pretty happy with baskin robbins. :/

I gotta agree with all of the coldstone supporters... The cake batter is sooo good. I used to like Loards, except the store closest to me closed down and now im all about the Coldstone Creamery :)

Amy's Ice Cream

If your in Austin (or San Antonio or Houston)...you have a chance to taste the ice cream that started the gourmet ice cream parlor craze back in the 80's.
Steve's Ice Cream of Boston was once in the position Ben & Jerry's is today. And the ice cream was even better than B&J's! But corporate greed got in the way (it was the 80's after all) and they cut the quality of their ice cream in order to maximize profits...and lost their empire in the process to the guys from Vermont.

Steve's used to give the store managers not only the recipes of how to make the different flavors...but also the recipe to make the exotic cream base. They thought by signing a non-compete agreement they had all their bases covered. But the store manager of their New York - Avenue of the Americas shop saw in the fine print she was just prohibited from opening an ice cream shop within 1000 miles of the Steve's store. So she went to Texas with all the original Steve's recipe's and opened up Amy's Ice Creams.

Steve's invented the mix-in now popularized by Coldstone and Marble Slab. They created the first oreo cookies and cream ice cream. And the coffee ice cream puts even Haagen Dasz to shame.

If you love ice cream and can get to Texas...Amy's is a required stop!

I have a Cold Stone within a mile of my house. When it is summer, I'm there at least once a week. It is the greatest ice cream ever! :D

Ted & Wally's in Omaha, Nebraska. Cold Stone is good, but Ted & Wally's has a better taste and doesn't fill one up as much.

Blue Bell has the best ice cream ever.

But for a particular store, gotta go for Marble Slab. (one just opened on the south side of town, have yet to go there but I've been to a few other stores before.) All we had before that was Baskin Robins, which is ok, but not my favorite.

Coldstone of course!

So much $$, but worthy it!

But in terms of local....Bart's ice cream in downtown Ahmerst. Man, i love it so much!

My favourite ice-creamery is Cold Rock. You get to choose an ice-cream or sorbet, and then mix it with chocolate or lollies. After you choose your ice-cream combination, one of the staff would mix it all together on a cold rock (get it? :D), and serve it in a waffle cone!

The Penn State Creamery

ice cream is out of this world. I ate so much(probably too much) ice cream there as an undergrad.....alas kind of hard to get here in Germany. German eis just doesn't seem to cut it.

Well thats got to be between one in the centre of Oxford which i tragically can't remember the name of and The Salcombe Ice Cream Factory, which is funnily enough in Salcombe. They sell some good stuff at both.

Those are both in the UK btw:p

I'm going with the other 31105462 people that have said Cold Stone Creamery.

Yeah, I know that its a chain, but its a really, really good chain.

I don't like Coldstone. It's really just not good enough to justify the price (or the line). For the price, I was really expecting it to WOW me. It didn't.

To to the person who posted a link to a gelato place in Atlanta (there was one other location but ATL is closest to me), indulge me: how amazing is it? Man, their flavor list was intense. Fig! Passionfruit! The boyfriend is a chef so we may have to make a 'culinary trip' down to Atlanta to try this stuff.

I really prefer soft serve / frozen yogurt to (most) ice cream.

Anyone ever tried Ciao Bella?: http://www.ciaobellagelato.com/ There isn't one close, but I've looked at their pints in the freezer at Whole Foods before and considered getting some. They have gelato and "sorbetto".
