Ah, that's better!

Here's a few of the bottles I've been drinking this year...

preview

That is a fine selection, especially The Glenlivet.

Hope you enjoyed them all.
2 Master Distiller Reserve bottles of Glenlivet - a Small Batch and a Solera Vatted. Both very nice, but if I had to pick one it would be the Small Batch.

I've got a couple of drams of each one left, and about half a bottle of the one I forgot to include in the picture - a Macallan Gold which I've been really disappointed with. It was a gift though, and probably not all that bad. it just landed when there are some much better options in the cupboard.

It's been a year of the non-aged whisky, with only the Aberlour carrying its age.

Thank you.

I had wondered - as I couldn't read the labels - whether the pictures of Glenlivet were describing one or two different whiskies.

Those on show have not been opened - but when obtaining bottles I will normally buy two bottles - one for tasting and one for keeping. My favourite whisky is cask strength (top picture), straight from the cask to bottle, nothing added.
I have been collecting for about 35 years and tasting for longer. Was in the business for over 26 years and never had a day off (except holidays) Just loved making whisky.

Sweet Jesus. And it’s in alphabetical order. Marry me; whether or not you’re a chick is only marginally important at this point.

:D:D:D:D Sorry @Gutwrench my wife would get upset - you did make me laugh :D:D:D:D

The collection is an Investment for my old age - collecting good whisky is better than stocks and shares.

My bedtime dram and reading material at the moment.

10 year old cask strength 58.6% Alc./Vol. Absolutely beautiful:):):)

Been wanting to pick this up, finally scored a bottle yesterday, High West Double Rye - it's incredibly well reviewed (like all their products), on dozens of "best of" lists.

It's pretty fantastic, a blend of a 95%/2 year rye mash and a 53%/16 year old, spicey, seriously big nutmeg/pepper, long warm caramel notes, had it rocks, in an Old Fashion, works great all around. A new favorite, probably will be my "go to" for rye (it's also easily found).

I’ve not ever had an Old Fashion. Perhaps that’ll be the drink of the day.
I have almost a full home wrecker of Knob Creek and bitters. Will that do?
Anyone care to share how they make theirs?

Angostura bitters and [a good] bourbon ... you're 90% there :D I mean, it's really just bourbon (or rye), bitters and some water/sugar or equivalent (unprocessed sugar is better).

The Liquor.com recipe is pretty classic:

https://www.liquor.com/recipes/bourbon-old-fashioned/

That being said, there's a lot of variants that add a little extra zing, but keep the core bitters/bourbon as the base - I've had one with a little dash of orange bitters and a lemon garnish.

The St. Augustine Distillery makes their own mixer:

https://st-augustine-distillery-co.myshopify.com/products/old-fashioned-mix

It's super complex, adds a little nutmeg/coriander flavoring, some purist might not thing it's the real thing, but it's a nice change up.

I use Barsmith Old Fashioned mixer too, it's the sweet, but they use a little extra citrus in the blend, it's pretty fantastic, but I'd suggest using way less than they specify, I use about 1/4 shot to 1 shot bourbon, and then a couple of dashes Angostura bitters, light stir, add a single big ice cube in the right glass. Done :

Thanks! I’m going to experiment with it today... I’ll wait until 12:01 pm central, of course. I just made some simple syrup.

Ps - is Knob Creek decent? I keep it on hand for when a buddy stops by. It’s his choice. I haven’t a clue actually.

Hahaha, yes, it's 12:00PM, aka, Beer-Thirty here on the east coast :D Knob Creek is very good, any of the easily sourced $30-40 are generally good: Knob Creek, Billeit, Four Roses, Buffalo Trace, Old Forester, Elijah Craig, etc. Some of those have a "small batch" variant that's notably better for just a few bucks more, like Four Roses Small Batch is one of the best under $40 (and can be found for ~$30), and it's a good bit better vs. their Yellow Label and only $4-5 more.

There's a decent amount of flavor variation too, even though they're all bourbons, some are a little more smokey, or peaty, some have vanilla notes, others shift a little sweet. It's fun to check different brands out.

My old fashioned is small orange slice and maybe a packet of sugar muddled with a few splashes of bitters. Then bourbon and a splash of soda on top. Garnish with luxardo cherry.

Also, I like knob creek for a mixer. Plus it’s 100 proof so it has a nice kick.

Nice, I tend to buy-drink-finish-buy-<repeat>, so I don't get much I keep for very long.

I just scored that High West Double Rye (see above), it's fantastic, Mitchers also terrific, I've had quite a few of those, including the Blanton's (bottle was a keeper :))

Have you tried Hudson? Awesome.
[doublepost=1539031681][/doublepost]Is that a Magic Chef ice maker? We had one of those counter ice makers after buying bagged ice for a few years or getting/stealing it from the neighbor (he has a huge pro grade 250lb/day type monstrosity). It gave us great service and lots of ice for about 18 months (we're high volume ice consumers).

Before that I fixed the ice maker on our silly expensive in-freezer ice maker but it always re-broke. Well, about 4-5 months ago I found a company making replacement parts for the ice maker that were actually reinforced improvements over OEM parts, fixed it again, and it's stayed fixed (well, at least for 405 months :D)

Ice ... whisky ... I guess I'm in the topical ballpark :D

I’ve had Hudson, good stuff. I need more space. The michter’s I have is the toasted barrel. Delicious, much better than their other stuff IMO. That ice maker has been going strong for over 10 years now. (Knock on wood)

Me too.

I'm kind of an anti-collector. I don't like having to store a bunch of stuff, no matter how much I like it. I have two bottles of scotch in the cupboard right now, both The Macallan; double cask and Edition No. 4.

Speaking of scotch, it's about the time for The Drinking of the Scotch to commence. ;)
