So much for the September budget. :(

I can’t imagine it’ll be that much better than the what I typically drink. And just so I don’t look completely selfish the girls got tasty bones from the meat market.

Tasting notes appreciated in due course, but, meanwhile, do enjoy.

Will do, but I’m a little afraid to open it. I’m not an experienced Scotch drinker and concerned I’ll be disappointed. It’s double the price of what I usually buy. I spend money stupidly sometimes without any regret. I can’t explain why I regret some purchases and not others.

Also, I have to be sharp at 5 am tomorrow for half a day. I might hold off until tomorrow.

Nice. I'd save it for special occasions if you're not the type to spend that much on liquor. Though I am curious how much you bought it for. Cheapest I've ever seen a Signet bottle was $180 at this place I usually get alcohol from outside of the wine monger(s). I think Total Wine has it for a hair over $200.

Yes, I'd recommend holding off until you can appreciate and enjoy it without a twinge of conscience. Save it for special occasions.

The aficionados recommend a drop of water with whisky to bring out the flavour.

I've never done that, but often (almost always) do have a glass of water to the side, when sipping and savouring any alcohol (beer, wine, cognac, port or whisky).

I held off last night but interested to try it. I might have to hold off tonight because a friend’s daughter may need picked up from the airport.

I’ve heard of adding a few drops of water but couldn’t detect a difference.

Anyway, do enjoy it when you do get around to sampling, savouring and sipping it. Keep it for celebrating something worthwhile, or a special occasion.

(The last time I was abroad, a French colleague sent an email to a few of us inviting us to a "wine zipping" session.)

The Balvenie is my normal "go-to"
12yr is the "give me some good stuff"
15-17 is the "oh baby"
21yr is my "It has been a long week, I'm enjoying this"
I also have a TUN 1509 that only comes out when others that can appreciate a good scotch come over.

I also enjoy The Glenlivet 12-17 and a Macallan every now and then.

I don't really drink very often anymore so when I do, I just try to have it taste a tad better.

It's good when the Scotch is old enough to vote, it's reaaaaaally good when it's old enough to purchase itself.

I like this thread, but every time I see the title it makes me cringe.

Can it be changed to correct the spelling, as Whisky does not have an 'e' :D You could stick a 'u' in Favorite too whilst you're at it :p

Oh, and I hope the No. 4 is nicer than the Gold, which I'm amazed they let leave the distillery ;)

Let me see what I can do about the thread title. Though both spellings are correct depending on the origin of the whiskey, or whisky, and the type whether bourbon or scotch. At least that’s my understanding and if I’m off, someone with better knowledge please do enlighten us. :)

Whisky and whiskey are both correct, depending on the origin of said beverage; both can be used.

As for "favourite"......well, that word, too, depends on geographical location, and personal preference.

Meanwhile, @SandboxGeneral, do enjoy sipping, sniffing, and savouring your latest bottle of The Macallan.

You know, this mutual friend of ours - a doctor as it were, was trying to get me to purchase a $4,000 bottle of The Macallan the other day. While tempted, I somehow resisted the desire, nay, criminal persuasion of said doctor to rack up an enormous amount of debt on my credit card. I sometimes refer to him as Dr. Evil.

$4,000? For a whiskey/whisky? Yes, I'd call that Doctor, Doctor Evil, as well. Doctor Very Evil, actually.
