Apple indirectly forcing older phone users to upgrade.

Genius! Apple subliminally recruiting the Obama Gubmint and the FBI to force users to upgrade their iPhones.

Next phase…… Apple will "subliminally" convince Kim Jong Donkey-Kong to nuke (Seoul) South Korea, therefore instantly annihilating the entire Samsung HQ, instantly eradicating an industry rival. Brilliant!

I'm sure @rdowns and you have broken the speed limit on occasion.

Probably you have also jaywalked. (snip here)

Therefore making you both criminals.

Infractions are not criminal offenses in vast majority of jurisdictions; actions that violate laws are not automatically criminal.

Obama Gubmint??? Please tell me you are not under the illusion that this would not happen under any other president?

FBI: we need access to the phone of a terrorist - it's life or death
FBI: we need access to the phone of a drug dealer - it's about crime
FBI: we need access to the phone of a political activist - it's about being American
You get it. Mass surveillance has always had the goal of suppressing political dissent. The "extreme" cases are ment to get an agreement for the usage to abuse it later.

Certainly no need to speculate about what is happening under this president.

Update: In Massachusetts, Apple has been ordered to help the FBI gain access to data on an iPhone belonging to a Boston gang member accused of shooting a rival gang member.
"Just one phone"

Seriously though, this sets a dangerous precedent. Before you know it, Apple will be ordered to remove the secure enclave on their phones.

Well, I sure hope the U.S. Senate and the FBI have the power to keep all 3rd party end to end encryption apps - regardless of country developed in - off everyones phones or all this will do is make those who can afford the app secure and literally no one else. Smooth move.

I'd call them a bunch of clowns, but that would be an insult to clowns.

Are you a suspected criminal under investigation?

This isn't about your phone.
"Are you a Japanese-American? Then you have nothing to worry about"
"Are you a Jew? Then you have nothing to worry about"
"Are you a communist? Then you have nothing to worry about"
"Are you a homosexual? Then you have nothing to worry about"

If Apple has to create a Blackfoot for the FBI . . .
Is that auto-correct or a term I don't yet know?

Too true.

There were plenty of people who supported McCarthy too...

And yet there seems to be a simple explanation for the rise and fall of McCarthyism, one (erroneously) attributed to Sir Winston Churchill, by the way:

"Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing… after they have exhausted all other possibilities."

The rise and—hopefully—fall of Trumpism lend further credence to said explanation.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I simply do not understand how any American cannot see this as modern McCarthyism.
It's called zionism. The meme of the privileged super elite vs. the dumb slaves.

Who says government can do anything with a "valid ticket" from an authority which is also part of government? Should court be completely independent from government? And government cannot stand above law too, right?

And as citizens goes stronger, government start fearing citizens one day would turn against them. Remember how terrorist be defined as "terrorist"? They take actions so that innocents feel fear about it. Fear would lead to the intention to protect themselves. If everyone is strong enough, why we still need to fear terrorists? Where the fear comes from? Just like my dad says: "nowadays people are becoming more fragile and cannot even sustain a little bit of loss or sorrow". I still believe what terrorist does has successfully created fear among us, which is why they exist.

We all need to be stronger than before.

Dont you guys realize? The FBI is doing this to keep Americans safe. I mean in the end, the American taxpayers are still paying the FBI, thus authorizing and sponsoring their actions.

Sooner or later, American voters need to take accountability of the kind of system and government they voted for. Whining doesn't do anything.

Is that guy still alive? If so, ask him first.

This is not going away and it seems that it will reach a conclusion sooner rather than later. I think it's inevitable that Apple will eventually be forced to unlock an iPhone. There are too many cases and they can't win them all unfortunately.
