As soon as Apple buys a company it gets better.

Are you basing this on the excellent lineup of current apple headphones? Those EarPods are awesome ! I'm sure apple can give beats some advice ;)

Beats to look better, but to sound the same after apple acquisition .

When rationae explanations are given as to why other headphones sound better and present a better value, defense of Beats thus far includes words like hate and anger.

What I don't get is why headphones are marketed towards athletes or a specific kind of person, when headphones should really be marketed towards people who like music, regardless of whatever else they do.

A lot of this Beats hate that's here in this thread seems to be from ignorance; Beats has gotten IMMENSELY better than what they used to be. They're now quality, sound great, and are well built.

Here's a review from a well respected headphone guru: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwTUKK3_wvg&list=UU6BW8DqrAmBEIeCtMa4bfBw

Highly rates them.

And as others have noted, the Beats Pros sound right up there the Audio Technica ATH-M50's, though the Pro's cost about twice as much, but if you factor in the design and build quality, the Pro's can be viewed as a good investment.

Did you just call Lance gross a headphone guru?

Guy dables in tech , he is not a headphone guru!

Like BOSE, Beats are way overpriced for what you pay, and I fail to see the superior build quality you talk about.

If you like them, enjoy! Though if you listen to what is out there at the same price range, you might reconsider believing they sound great. Though it's personal preference .

Assumed there won't be a new Bluetooth standard for this, I surely won't pay $300 for headphones who will receive their signal wirelessly with 128kbps.

Cause Beats would have been out of business if their first generation products were judged on sound quality. A great example of marketing , make people believe cool is the most important factor in owning headphones. I admit that the beats commercials are very very good at achieving this

Bose can be a hit or a miss. My car's Bose sucks butt; however, Bose Soundlink Mini at home is awesome for its size.

That's really it isn't it. For the size I don't think there is much that can topple Bose in speakers. My father has some mini-Bose speaker surround system and it really does pump out sound far greater than their size should.

Almost irrelevant to the topic: I really kind of want to find some broken Beats and see if I can transplant some Koss speakers into them. I am a sucker who wants the design, but I just don't want that [lack of] sound quality.

I wonder if this is doable...

It is probably doable but speaker design has more to do with than just the speaker. The housing plays a big part.

I don't know, perhaps it is because athletes listen to a lot of music (e.g. When working out)? Perhaps it is because athletes offer good public exposure.

Why wouldn't Apple put a small hard drive, shuffle like size, in the ear muff of the Beats Solo headphones? Set it up for WiFi synching when you charge the headphones at night. Seems like a no brainer to me...

Because who listens to music without their smartphone? While exercising yes, but these would be way to big and heavy for that.

He's trying to be sarcastic because he thinks that everyone says how great Beats headphones are, now that Apple have bought them. Of course exactly this didn't happen as the negative feedback and critical comments on Beats headphones in this and other recent threads prove.

Anyway, just looks like a lot of angry audiophiles in here getting their panties all tied up in a bunch.

no, it's like trying to explain the difference between red and green to colorblind people. they don't get it, and assume those who can tell the difference are elitist douches. it's scientifically provable (frequency separation) and entirely tangible ('angry' audiophile, as you put it, are in no way making this stuff up).

if you can't discern between the audio quality of a pair of beats and another established pro-audio brand at a similar price (or even roughly half the price in a lot of instances), it's your problem. and i'm not being inflammatory or saying you're 'stupid' or 'ignorant' - some people just can't comprehend the real differences. all they focus on is bass or lack of bass. there's much more to identifying sound quality than that

but it's said in a way as if beats doesn't have access to this info.. as if beats can only put speakers in a headphone and then hope the scientifically provable info works out in their favor for audiophiles..

when the truth is probably more like-- beats designs their headphones to sound the way they sound.

I bought a pair of the PowerBeats (original) for next to nothing and I have to say that at first I was disappointed. They didn't offer the spin I was looking for and they didn't fit in my ears right.

I went back to some of the other earbuds I have, Samsung, Apple, Bose, Skill Candy, and a pair of Sennheiser over ears and they all sounded like trash save for the Sennheisers.

The PowerBeats are decent ear buds. I wouldn't want to pay full price for them but they aren't bad. Let's hope Apple improves on the whole line and lowers the price.

I may grab a full sized pair of headphones next. Ear buds are just too small for the type of sound I am looking for.

I bought a pair of Sony XBA 3's but I sent them back, I tried to like them but in the end I had to admit they were no better than my $20 Philips SHE9550's and the Philips' seal was much better even though the Sonys came with like a bucket load of multi-sized buds with and without foam reinforcement.

I'm talking about cans, not buds. The IEM market is a whole different ballgame. JH's high end stuff is pretty damn good.

DID YOU JUST QUESTION MY CHOICE OF WORDS?! Yes, I did. I didn't go intel great effort to review his credentials, but he does almost nothing but respectable headphone reviews, I so figured the terminology I used was applicable.

Show me another headphone that's as well built as the Beats Pros, or the Mixrs. Go on, I'll wait. And wait. AND WAIT.

I rest my case.

I can't say they're as pretty (or pretty at all), but German Maestro is built much, much more sturdier. And there's plenty of headphones that are sturdier than Beats headphones.

----------

I'd be happy to buy (wireless) Beats if:
1. Sound improves even more. A built-in DAC would be great.
2. 320 MP3s please, please. Like this is what I want the most. One of the only reasons why I don't buy music from iTunes is that it's 256.
3. I've heard the new ones are sturdier but I need a tank, I'm not kind to my things.

Bonus: Sound isolation.

I don't see how anything can be more sturdy than a solid aluminum/metal design that the Pros and Mixrs employ. I'm talking about the Pros and Mixrs only. Could you explain how the headphones you mentioned are sturdier?
