People who are upset about people talking on a plane should invest in good headphones or ear plugs. Airplanes are so loud that I don't see too many people really trying to talk.

I sort of see your point, but no. Have you ever used public transport?

business opportunity!

I see a huge business opportunity for airport stores to sell more ear plugs and mobile device in-ear headsets and over-ear headphones with strong sound-attenuation qualities.

The cabin crew may have to pass them out on flights to prevent fights among passengers.

This is wrong.

This is not about safety, it is about courtesy.

They must realise that the only people who will want to do this are the same discourteous people you always hear a mile away on the phone. You know, the ones talking about their personal business, like some demented exhibitionists who 'get off' on you hearing what they got up to last night.

I'm sure you will be charged for this service so that should cut down on all the "HEY CAN YOU HEAR ME!!!! I"M CALLING YOU FROM 30,000 FEET. I"M IN A PLANE!!!!" phone calls

Hi Honey, ... Honey, are you there ... Hello ... Hello ... Honey, oh good - do we need milk ... Hello ... Hello ... Hello

It's already been proven multiple times that Cellphone waves or radio waves from electronic devices do not interfere with Airplane instruments or communication services but I honestly would like for the FCC to continue enforcing the cellphone ban for us travelers who love our peace and quite and high altitude wind-noise. Thank you.

I flew on a JetBlue flight the day after they changed for the new regs, and the flight attendant cheerfully announced that the devices could stay on except for laptops. Didn't mention anything about the airplane mode rule. A guy diagnally across the aisle from me was like "wow, okay!" and promptly made a phone call and loudly stayed on the phone until takeoff. I wanted to find a way to unscrew my tray table and throw it at his head.

Great, have to sit next to people with no hygiene now I have to listen to them talk to their parole officer and hooker girlfriend?

Meanwhile, Southwest is first with gate-to-gate Wi-Fi!

I draw the line at phone calls, though. It's bad enough being crammed into a small plane, much less having the person next to you chatting the entire time.

The Airplane mode rule still allows for wi-fi access, but not cellular data/voice.

Dear god, no! I don't want to be trapped on a plane next to some jackass on their phone. I also wouldn't want eavesdroppers listening to my conversations. I can only imagine what this would do to the bathroom line...

Not a good idea. Not looking forward to all the noise and also being in the immediate vicinity, and for prolonged time, to multiple sources of electromagnetic radiation.

As someone who has flown 90 times so far this year, PLEASE GOD NO!!! Passengers are already annoying and smelly as is.
God knows that allowing voice calls in the air would make passengers even smellier.

Where are you sourcing that "all major airlines in the United States have now adopted the new policy"? I flew Virgin America two days ago and they forced everyone to turn off all their electronic devices during take-off and landing as usual.

Not using devices during takeoff and landing isn't about electronics.

It's about takeoff and landing being the most likely time for an accident to happen. It's the same reason they make you put away your bags, stow your tray table, open the shutters and place the seat in an upright position.

In a crash, your phone/tablet becomes a missile.

5 1/2 hour cross country flights looking at the the oily head of the fully reclined guy in front of you. now we get: sales sleazes making pitch calls; twerps calling into long 'important' meetings; and best yet, teenage girls ... calling everyone. time to buy some overpriced Bose noise-reducing headphones.

I can't possibly imagine how intolerable this would be.

It would make me choose my airline and class carefully.

Do people still talk on their phones? Seriously? I bet I used less than 20 mins of talk time a month. But I send around 3000 SMS

Good luck getting reception up there. Also, voice usage sounds dangerous. I know it messes with speakers.
