lol the 3rd gen has only been out a month... and we are already starting this up ;)

at least its not a rumor already!

i agree with you on most of the features you want! would be really nice to have a dual sim one, that way you can pay for both services and have more coverage

1. Uniform, brighter screen - Screen Quality Control!!!

2. Less charge time, less heat with oversize battery; in other words, improved battery technology

3. 128gb option with 32gb for base model

4. Return to thinner, lighter form

5. More apps that utilize retina display!!!

6. SD card slot

7. Better FaceTime camera

8. MS Office app available for iPad

I think most of these (except 6) will happen. It's called evolution and I can't wait for next year's model so I can "gift" my pink unit to another family member. They're all in line because they don't know any better:D

1. Sharp IGZO technology or OLED technology would reduce the need to have two light bars (which makes screen uniformity easier understandably)

2. Apple either has to increase the power over USB to charge faster or reduce the need for a 42 mAh battery. The battery technology is phenomenal.

3. Probably a given that we see 128GB. Apple didn't buy Anobit for nothings.

4. Factor of battery reduction and more efficient display

5. Get moving developers. They all should have had 2x artwork already prepared.

6. iCloud or Camera Connection kit. Opening up another hole in the chassis invites water, dust to enter.

7. I'd like to see at least 720p.

8. Likely to happen within a year IMO.

-------------------------------------

My wants

1. 128GB NAND storage
2. Quad Core CPU and PowerVR 600 series GPU
3. 802.11ac Wifi
4. Sharp IGZO Retina display
5. Liquid Metal chassis
6. 8Mp camera with Flash
7. 2 Gigabytes of RAM

I know it's a little early since the newest iPad just came out a month ago, but I am just curious as to what features or upgrades you would hope for in the next generation iPad. Here is my list:

I'm sure some of these features Apple won't give us, but I listed them anyways. Tell us all what you would hope for!

:cool::cool::cool::cool:

1) One unit that can handle both AT&T and Verizon SIM cards for 4G use.
All for that

2) Front facing dual stereo speakers.
Speaker grills on the front? I'm going to say NO.

3) 128 Gigs of on board storage.
Eh... For me unnecessary but hey, I'll buy it.

4) Anti-glare matte screen.
Bumps down the clarity of the screen. Maybe give us a choice between Gloss or Matt.

5) 8 MP back facing camera with 1080p and an LED flash ( or two ).
Eh... If I need to take a proper photograph or video, I'll stick with my DSLR.

6) Micro SD card ( or regular size SD card ) for extra storage.
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

7) Two headphone jacks.
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN

Can't the current iPad use either AT&T or Verizon LTE with just different sim cards?

No. All the LTE networks run on completely different frequencies. Making hardware interoperability impossible for the time being.

this one is really easy

1) better screen tech (will help prevent potential sanity issues ;) )
2) quad cores, (or whatever)
3) lighter
4) better battery life
5) less heat
6) thunderbolt port (note: this would be way, way, cool, and perhaps even possible with new chipsets)

I'm not a dreamer, and these things most likely will happen.

But most important:

BRING BACK THE GORRILLAS!!!!! (I don't want anything unless it clearly says there are gorillas everywhere)

I would be happy with Evolutionary improvements:
128GB, cooler running A15, less consuming OLED/IGZO screen .... hence lighter, slimmer iPad

"Revolutionary" stuff they'll direct towards 7.85" iPadette - they need new market niches to defend/conquer ....

that being said we'll probably see something "made" out of Liquid Metal thingie

You can forget the sd card slot. It will never happen.

^This^

More storage...They really should have upped it this time IMHO
Faster proc > More cores - IMHO
Smaller die for CPU/GPU to reduce heat/size/battery needs
Lots of iOS improvement
HD FaceTime Camera / iPhone 4S 8MP camera
Scratch the speaker bit...they need to introduce better Apple headphone options

How are you to define or decide other peoples experiences...

It gets warm because it has a powerhouse graphics card. It's been tested and other tablets with comparable graphics cards get about the same warmth. In other words...

IT DOES NOT OVERHEAT...

A substantial number of otherwise positive users have shared their experience with us (also in this forum) that they feel the new iPad to be too warm (some even hot), especially on some area of the tablet.

When you state you case ("it does not overheat") it is not even disrespectful but just silly. There should be an official diagnosis "fanboyism". BTW: "Denial" is an accepted defence mechanism in psychology.

How about this...I'd put my new 64GB 4G iPad at its absolute hottest on my bare gonads before I'd let my work Lenovo laptop get near my lap with jeans on... That's how not "overheating" it is to me...

I don't hear peeps out there whining and moaning about all these other devices that far exceed the temperatures exhibited by the iPad...they just go out and buy some sort of lap desk to use and go on with their lives. People have irrational expectations that seem to match Apple's nonsensical hype unfortunately. Can there be defects from time to time that are exceptions...most likely, but the fact is that the VAST majority of iPads do not have any heat "issues"...but many have owners with heat "expectation" issues.

I'm OK with the current speaker size and location; it is very useful. Stereo would be nice, but you'll need 3 speakers to be able to accomplish stereo on any orientation (portrait and landscape); otherwise not every user would benefit from it.

For all other needs I use either a Bluetooth Stereo headphone, AirPlay to Sound System, Portable Bluetooth Stereo Speakers, AirPlay to my Mac running AirServer with Bosé Stereo Speakers.

3) 128 Gigs of on board storage.

The more, the merrier.

4) Anti-glare matte screen.

No glossy display could mean your fingers will not slide nicely on it. Flat may look and feel odd.
5) 8 MP back facing camera with 1080p and an LED flash ( or two ).

Without the ability to freely write to it, this addition would be mostly useless. A change in iOS would make this possible now with the Camera Kit.

7) Two headphone jacks.
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN
Make it happen now with a $5.00 1/8" stereo Y-adapter :D
The truth is that I never use regular headphones with my iPad. It's too restrictive. Instead, I use Bluetooth Stereo headphones. I wonder If you could connect two.
Of course, none of the above applies when you want to listen with your GF cheek to cheek. the closer and shorter the headphone wire, the better! :D

To me, the most important new feature would be for both the chassis and glass to be: unbreakable and unscratchable.

One feature no one has asked in a very long time is an ethernet port; true, it's no longer necessary. It can easily be accomplished with an AirPort Express in bridge mode. Heheh!

IR Port to be able to use it as a universal remoter without the need to buy additional parts.

And make the headphone jack both analog and digital like the MacBook Pro has. That would be a great feature too.

Make it a fine point stylus, not that thick as a sausage styli we have to use now.

You mean as silly as your inability to read the substantiated article I linked to in my post? Is illiteracy also an acceptable defense mechanism in psychology?

A feature that when you turn the brightness to full in a dark room and look at the screen from extreme angles, the iPad just reaches out slaps you silly. Or it automatically sets up an appointment with a therapist in iCal.

1. Change the wake-up graphic from a black screen to a white or multi-colored screen. Just to reduce the number of "I returned 17 iPads" threads on MR.

2. Option to import files from iTunes home sharing like is available on Mac/PC. Simpler than syncing every time.

3. Make Photostream usable. As of now, it is totally insane. Organization is needed.

4. Anti-reflective coated display like what is currently on MacBook Air. It's not perfect, but would be great to have. The technology exists for this to work, Apple should perfect it. A matte display is simply not realistic for a tablet.

5. Airdrop functionality like on the Mac for all files. Making it work with the Mac and PC would be nice too.

6. Better front facing camera for FaceTime.

7. Faster processor, dual core is still likely fine but I'd like to see a speed bump. Combine this with a RAM increase and I'd be really pleased.

8. 128 GB option

9. The ability to attach multiple files to emails. This is the only thing about not having a file system that really frustrates me on the iPad. I can live without it, but it's really something that needs to be resolved.

10. Siri.

- The ability to store, use, and transfer real files to and from the iPad. Not just videos and pictures. If this is going to replace computers, lets treat it like a computer.

- A better front camera. The back camera is pointless to me, the front camera is more important. It would make Facetime/Skype a lot better. The front camera shouldn't look like it came from a cell phone in 2003.

- Better organization in Photos. Lets use REAL folders. I never understood Apple's hatred for organization in iOS. Common sense people.

Not specific to the iPad, but I wish they would open up AirPrint to all wifi printers instead of just the select few that support AirPrint.

One of the main reasons I jailbreak is for truprint.

Also they need to have better QC. They have been slipping. It would nice for them to fuse the screen to the glass as well like they do on the iPhones.

This ^ . #6 will never happen, agreed.

Apple better change base model to 32g for 4th generation. An improved battery charging speed would be ideal also. Length is fine, 10 hrs is more than sufficient but 6 hr charge time is still long.

There are really only 4 things needed:

1) Thinner and lighter even at the expense of battery life (should be no heavier than a magazine).
2) More storage 128GB minimal and the ability to slide in extra memory cards.
3) Top tier durability so that cases and covers are not needed
4) Non-glare, non-reflective glass (AND a better solution for fingerprints)

Oh Yeah!!

How about a new way of hooking the cable up to the iPad to charge it? Like one of those stone chargers, where you just have to sit the iPad on the charging pad, and it will charge it without a cable. Maybe the same way could be done to hook the iPad up to your computer via USB to the stone for when syncing.

:) :) :) :)
