Despite receiving notifications from Apple earlier this week that their iPhone 4 pre-orders would be arriving today, one day ahead of the official launch, a number of U.S. customers have noticed that the tracking information for their shipments through FedEx are suggesting that they may not be receiving their orders today.

Those customers can still hold out hope, however, as FedEx has posted a service update reporting that deliveries are proceeding as scheduled but that updates to tracking information are being delayed.
Package deliveries are proceeding as normal, however tracking updates are temporarily being delayed. Please try back later.
While the notice does not specifically address iPhone 4, it seems reasonable to assume that the volume of shipments going out today is causing some issues with FedEx's tracking system.

A few customers were even lucky enough to receive their shipments yesterday, with many more already being delivered today.

Meanwhile, customers looking to score iPhone 4s at their local Apple Stores tomorrow are beginning to form lines at locations around the country.

now they just need a cardboard sign saying "will stand in line for you for 20 bucks" :p

this may explain what I am seeing:

Jun 23, 2010 04:33
Departed FedEx location
FORT WORTH, TX

Jun 22, 2010 21:40
Arrived at FedEx location
FORT WORTH, TX

I have never seen that before, normally it reads "out for delivery"
I think they are doing it on purpose, not due to volume. Another fedex shipment set for today updated just fine (though it is going to another address).

yeah Fed Ex's tracking is fubar.

It still says my iphone has left indy when I have it in my hand here in denver.

Normally with in 5 mins of a package being delivered it shows it on the tracking site....... I signed for my iPhone 4 2.5 hours ago.

During the busiest day of the Christmas season, FedEx handles upwards of 10 million packages. I have a hard time believing a few hundred thousand iPhone packages are that big of a deal.

makes sense

No update on a delivery since the departure last night from Newark airport. Being right outside NYC, it's hard to think nothing has happened since.

So yup there's hope for today.

My tracking info still says it will be delivered tomorrow, but I received the email from Apple saying that "delivery will occur on June 23rd". I called Fedex and the first rep said that it would be delivered anytime from today to the 26th. I talked to him about people taking the day off from work in order to get their phone, based on the email from Apple. He transferred me to an English speaking rep, who cleared things up for me. He acted like they were a little frustrated with Apple sending that email out to everyone. He said that I was lucky and my phone made it on a truck for delivery today, despite what the tracking info says. He also said, not everyone will be as lucky. They have hundreds of thousands of these being delivered. Some made it to trucks and some didn't. Some that made it on a truck still might not make it to your house today. It depends on how slammed that driver is. He said that some drivers were still delivering at midnight on the day that the ipad was initially shipped, and this release is bigger. It should be an interesting couple of days.

FedEx Delays

Same thing here in Nashville...no phone yet though

Agreed. There are a lot of phones being shipped today but I can't believe that it is so many that it would overload their services.

They hire seasonal help in November and December.

That's good to know. I was wondering why mine arrived in Newark yesterday morning and left Newark at 7pm last night (I live in NYC). But then another update that stated it left Newark AGAIN at 4:30am.

i got mine today, even though fedEx tracking had it still listed for tomorrow.

Got mine a day early...must have been one of the lucky ones. The FedEx guy delivered a package....then he came back like an hour later and said he had forgotten to deliver this one and it was my iPhone! I was so happy.

I was very glad to see this report. I was starting to get worried since my tracking status has been stuck at "At dest sort facility" for some time now. A friend of mine who lives just about 4 miles from me had the same tracking problem but received his about 30 minutes ago. Hopefully that means that mine will be delivered soon as well.

Got mine

Fed ex delivered mine in D.C. around 11am EST. Fed ex tracking still said it was en route from Memphis. For some reason, it appears that the fed ex web tracking info is falling behind the package's actual status.

The crashes continue

The FedEx estimated delivery time had been today by 10:30 AM. That, unfortunately has come and gone. Now, there is no estimated delivery time given and like many others, my FedEx tracking hasn't been updated for a good while now. First AT&T and Apple servers, now FedEx servers. Who's next?

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I get it today. I really want to avoid the craziness of all the activations tomorrow. Oh, and it would be nice to have my iPhone today. :)

More Confusion

I'll give this in bullet point.

- Pre-ordered on the 15th
- FedEx tracking says delivery by 4:30pm on the 24th
- Rec'd email from Apple saying "forget FedEx, it's phone time baby!"
- This morning, FedEx tracking went down - says my phone is at a sort facility a few miles away. (I'm in Brooklyn)
- Called customer service, they said Apple sent out the email in error and my phone will be delivered tomorrow by 4:30.
- Called back 20 minutes later, they said my phone is on the truck for delivery!

Tick, tock, tick, tock...

Is nothing going right with the iPhone4?

Let's review:

iPhone was "stolen" and revealed to the world by someone not Steve Jobs

The phone didn't work on stage b/c of wifi

ATT's servers crash b/c too many people want the phone

Mass shortages of the white iPhone and limited supplies of the black iPhone

FedEX's tracking info go kaput.

iPhone screen discolorations
I wonder what else will happen?

I'm a BIG Apple Fan but this is just nuts!

EDIT: list has been updated twice.

Got mine. Ft worth tx

Got mine today. Fedex never said "out for delivery". Activated 2 phones with out any issued

Mine was the exact same way and I just received mine about 30 minutes ago. :)
