Wish apple offered a space black colour on their iPhones
Surely that's what's coming next ... phones that exactly match the Watch finishes. So, Space Black, Stainless, and 18k gold and rose gold. ;-)

I love the rainbow Apple logo, but it makes me wonder: is it legal?

I feel like Apple would say that it's trademark infringement or something...

I would tend to agree. It's one thing to modify an existing Apple case. It's another to completely fabricate a new one, and include the Apple Trademark on it -- suggesting Apple endorsed the product. Technically, they can't put that logo on that case without Apple's permission, much less co-brand it. But perhaps Apple doesn't care -- the fact that Colette is involved and Apple has partnered so closely with them, since it's just advertising for them.

Alright, the one in first picture looks bloody good!
Can't wait until there is a Chinese knock off on eBay for 10$ or so.. :D

I love that classic Apple logo. (not enough to pay several grand for it though)

How do they get that Apple logo backlit if they're not modifying the case dimensions? Crazy.
Well remember that iPhones are mass produced. That limits the kind of materials that they can use and the tolerances for their construction. This is not a mass produced product, so they can go crazy with it. Like perhaps use paper-thin Electroluminescent or even OLED lighting.

Though I don't see the lens protrusion on the side view, so it may also be a little bit thicker.

Stainless/Sapphire might happen, I shudder to think of the cost for a solid 14 carat gild iPhone...

So if I sell my car I can get one. Although if I do that I can't get to work and loose my job so I can't pay the line rental... Tough choice :)

That is absolutely insane....

I want....

But $250 a month (because I would have to replace it in a year - wouldn't want to commit a fashion faux-pas and have an old phone....Paris Hilton would be appalled)

Seriously - I wonder if there is any sort of resale market for these sort of things? Or do people who buy these things just not give a crap about recovering the money they have thrown away?

I'm with the posters who suggested the stickers or cases - I will save the $2500 or thereabouts and use it for something useful

Which would be nothing remotely like owning one of these

No it wouldn't.

And the owner wouldnt be quite as paranoid about the phone being dropped, stolen, or having something else happen to it either. And would have a $2500 smaller-size hole in their pocket.

They can't. The way anodizing aluminum works makes it very challenging to have black that lasts long. See iPhone 5

Id have the "delicate" slate back in a flash though, it was mainly on the chamfered edges which don't exist anymore, I think it'd be fine on the rounded iPhone 6 design...still, even that wasn't black.

Wow, that wood one looks tacky!

The carbon looks pretty nice, the multi-colored version of the Apple logo reminds me of better days as well.
Pretty nice.

I think this is a really big deal... Just yesterday I was telling my colleague something along the lines of:

The great thing about Apple is the greatest phone in the world (with the best implementation of the most advanced technologies) is kinda affordable, while its virtually impossible to buy the greatest house or the greatest car in the world. I.e. I think its cool that I can buy the latest iPhone and I still own the same model of phone as most billionaires; its the best.

Now this starts to change that, and I guess the Apple Watch started this trend. Apple partnering with luxury brands to actually manufacture a different case onto the phone is creating a whole new 'for the 1%' price bracket of consumer technology; a one which allows the most richest to set themselves apart.

Maybe it was inevitable, in such an unequal society there's bound to be enough millionaires out there prepared to spend many thousands on a luxury phone, and why not tap into the market...

I think Apple and Tim are being very careful to ease us into this, but I just hope the specs remains consistent, and the Apple model aesthetics remain as good as they look.

I've been having this feeling for quite a while – Apple is repositioning itself. Target audience used to be lower-middle class and upwards, now it's going to be upper-middle class and upwards. No more iPhone 5C, instead there will be Burberry, Colette and Louis Vuitton phones and watches. Poor people *insert Ive chuckling* can buy an iPod shuffle or an iPad with 16 GB storage.

I don't disagree ... I'm not sure this co-branding thing that Apple is getting into with Hermes is the best for Apple's brand. By all appearances, Apple had very little input into that Hermes deal, the Hermes cuff in particular looks wrong with the Watch, it doesn't have the same Apple aesthetic that the rest of the Apple designed bands do.

And you're right, it's disturbing if Apple is endorsing these Volk & Colette, and the co-branding is authorized, because they look decidedly non-Apple. It's worse if Apple is merely turning a blind eye to these kinds of luxury mods, especially with partners like Colette involved.

It marks a major change for Apple getting into this kind of market, whatever one thinks about it. But, I don't think it will affect the build quality of devices ... Apple seems to have tight control over the hardware, and giving up only accessory items like watch bands. Hard to imagine a Hermes watch band with embedded batteries, or sensors, or other expansion items, but I suppose if it's a matter of just sewing them into the bands, then anything's possible.

Soooo, you basically just want a black phone. :D Much better than the made up color space gray. Only Apple can make up their own terminology and have it enter our lexicon. <-- That's hyperbole by the way. I know that all words are made up. Space gray just bugs the bejeebus out of me for some reason.

Actually, I think BMW used "Space Gray" first. So let's hate them for it :-D
