Jony Ive always reminds me of comedian Jim Norton.

Of all the types of things he and his company could be working on, the fact that he throws his time into making more luxury cars says it all.

So the next car will be made of recycled aluminum, 1 foot tall, have a battery that will last 50 miles, and a single glass bubble on top that doesn't open or have any ports. It'll inductive charge over a coil in your driveway, and come with a plastic band around the frame so the streaming-only radio will work. No controls inside, just a touch panel with a grid of icons. Seats will be one-size-fits all, and if the seatbelt doesn't fit it's because you're sitting wrong.

Oh, and it'll have 30 dongles that you have to buy separately.

Miss anything?

I don't see LoveFrom and/or Jony Ive being mentioned in the same breath as Sergio Pinifarina, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Franco Scaglione, and many others.

The announcement doesn't say if the intent is for this relationship to involve styling of the cars themselves, interior design, or interface between the driver and car systems. I'm expecting the latter.

It's hard not to see the designs generally improving since his departure. Increased battery life, if rumors are to be believed the laptops will be regaining ports, etc.
I am not done with my coffee yet today so I could be way off, but this is also the first time in awhile the iPhone has been re-designed, if ever so slightly, 1 year after the previous models (smaller notch). If they go the hole punch route next year it'll be two years in a row re: design change. I.e., nothing changed from iPhone 6 through 8, and then X through 11. The 13 has changed after 1 cycle.

You really can’t call yourself a product designer if you take every opportunity to destroy functional design.

So funny. His designs are embodied in all products Apple produces, with the company enjoying the success of millions of customers, many repeat, opening their wallets paying premium prices for Apple products, year after year after year, making Apple one of the most successful companies in the world.

I don't understand how Apple is so slow at change. They don't have that many products. Its quite ridiculous.
The fact that it takes them 4 years to update all their products to a unified look makes no sense to me in the day and age of CAD and with their resources.

And yet his own customers mock him to no end about flipping a mouse upside down to charge, or having your pencil sticking outside of your ipad perpendicularly to charge and get snapped off.
