Unfortunately, we are. I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler and even in 2015 and 2016 models, they still equip them with "Alpine Premium Audio" systems that have old, outdated versions of uConnect that can't be upgraded with this. :(

Thanks Chrysler/Fiat.

I truly hope no one is driving around with a non "properly equipped" car; that would just be bad. :D

Man, I wish Honda would do this for my 2015 Accord.
My sister waited for the 2016 fit because she was told that it would support CarPlay with a b/w comparable firmware update. After she bought it she found that the update has not been offered.

Honda, your performance star is falling, as Fiat/Chrysler has bested you in the surprise and delight department by offering a retroactive CarPlay update!

Nope, our uConnect 8.4 is a different version that is not adaptable to this.
[doublepost=1461951552][/doublepost]

The Dart system and pre 2015 Charger's have a different 8.4 uConnect that may look the same but the software is different.

Thanks for the insight! This is a little disappointing to hear. Guess I won't be sticking with my Dart.

I should add that the factory Honda Display Audio on screen UI is clunky, complicated and sucky.

Great, this will come in handy to call the tow truck when your Fiat is broke down on the side of the road. Dead last reliability rating as far as cars go...

Dang it where the flip is the 2014 jeep wrangler unlimited...

That radio is 2 generations old now, if not 3. Chrysler abandoned it years ago. They only keep selling wranglers with it because people keep buying wranglers lol.

I have a 2015 with that stupid radio too. Worst $1800 option ever

As long as it doesn't feel like one is using iTunes/iMovie/FCP X then that is good. I know it is hands free. But I figure Apple are trying to bring the revolutionary interface of iTunes et al. to the spoken world.

Just updated my 2015 Jeep Cherokee Limited and it worked fine. Took about 10 minutes. I tried to send out a text to my son but it did not work very well. I guess I still have to figure out how all of this works.

BTW, Uconnect is probably one of the best system out there. This is my second car with it and, for example, it works way better than what my wife has in her Honda Civic. In that one you have to program the fast dial numbers while the UConnect system will recognize any name that you give it and dial it as long as it is in your iPhone's contacts.

Siri-Eyes-Free-Fiat-Chrysler.jpg

That icon on that button is damn ugly. Couldn't they have made it look less like the alien from Prometheus?

Side note, my BMW has always done this and it's a 2013. Short press = siri. Long press = iDrive. When I have attempted to get her to listen to me it always ends in frustration.

Have you ever used the uconnect 8.4 system? I logged in just to respond to this.

ever day i use uconnect, i am shocked at how poorly Siri works. Uconnect gets the names of people i am dialing every single time. and much faster. and I have not had any false connects yet. and i have strange names i call. gail, annika, matthias.

you should try it before passing judgement on the system it is really quite well done.
I work for FCA and I can say they rock.

I work for FCA and I can say they suck.

Then why don't you work someplace else if it sucks so much to work there? Bitching on a forum isn't going to help you.

Is the Dodge Dart supported? I have the UConnect 8.4 so I assume yes?

The Dart uses the Gen 1 8.4 uconnect system, while everything else in the list uses at least the Gen 2. Unless they want to support Gen 1 uconnect 8.4 systems I doubt the Dart will get any good updates. I'd rather they just find a way to support CarPlay but since the Gen 1 system doesn't support apps, it will be a cold day in hell before this happens.

What's more unreliable? Siri's voice recognition or Fiats?

Siri without a doubt. I just installed it on my 2015 JGC and Siri is horribly slow. I attempted to send a text message and finally accomplished it on the 4th or 5th try. The first attempts I'd say "text so and so" after about 1 minute Siri would say "what would you like to say" I'd give my message, see it slowly copy to iPhone screen than nothing - it would just sit there. Than I would say text so and so and gave the message right away of what I wanted to say and again, watch it type out on the screen and just sit there - finally Siri would repeat the message and ask if I'd like to send and I said "send" and nothing, I finally hit the send button on the phone and Siri replied "it's on it's way" Hopefully this will pick up with speed in time. Really didn't test much else but at this point - u-connect kicks it's butt hands down! Just my experience so far and hoping for improvements. I'll be sticking with the u-connect at this point, never had any problems with it and it's much faster.

I have heard the same thing Uconnect is a really good system. However, it is not as widely marketed as CarPlay. I'd like to see Uconnect on other platforms.
It's an FCA Infotainment system therefore you will find it only in FCA products: CHRYSLER, JEEP, Dogde, RAM, Fiat.

I have to add since no-one has yet, I bought a ford focus ST recently and did not expect any updates to the software ever. But damn was I happy when I found out there was one and it added siri support, let alone without the expectation at all (way before chrysler without a macrumors article fyi). It was a lovely surprise that made me feel Ford actually cares about helping me get ultimate value from my car. The idea these updates from Chrysler are so limited to model, and this type of update in general is so rare is absolutely ridiculous. After all, every single one of the cars in question are capable of updating and have all the proper hardware in place. Yet for some reason that I guess either marketing or negligence it is just not that simple.

On that note, I find Siri in my car extremely helpful. "Siri play xx album" works great. "Siri read my last text message", "reply with see you in a bit". It is so incredibly convenient while maintaining keep both hands and eyes free, it feels hardly distracting at all.

Siri's voice recognition in a Fiat.:p

+10 points for your combo move!

I was comparing Siri with Fiats. Fiats are cars.

I wasn't passing judgement on Uconnect since I wasn't even discussing it.

How bad you don't live in the UK, where Fiat seems more reliable than Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes-Benz: http://www.reliabilityindex.com/manufacturer

Fiat = Fix It All the Time

Truth is, Fiats are notoriously unreliable cars.

Consumer Reports Reliability Study: Toyota Thrives, Fiat Fails

Fiat is dead last in reliability. Ram and Jeep round out the bottom three.

Again, Fiat is the must unreliable brand.

Etc., etc...

Installed in Cherokee Limited today, works pretty well. It only took about 10 minutes. Glad at least they FCA thought of legacy customers most of the other manufactures just say SOL. Wished it was CarPlay, but better than nothing.
