Spain versus Belgium tonight, you’d say Spain will win it, but I love to see upsets, and Belgium looked like a capable team against the USA.

I love upsets too (unless it's the team I am rooting for haha), a big part of me hopes that argentina gets kicked out just so that this world cup feels fresh (although france will still be there I bet). But with how good Messi is and how favorited he is by the refs, I am not getting my hopes up for a Swiss win
I also love a good twist and the Swiss are the kind of team to deliver it.
But considering the hour I will have to literally sleep on it and check back in the mourning.

I think it's going to be a repeat of 2022. A part of me really wish Norway would make it to the final, but I highly doubt it, their defense is terrible. They're in because they have a monster of a striker.

I think that is selling them a bit short. Yes, Haaland makes the difference, but the rest of the team is not half bad. They dealt with Brazil very effectively.
England should be the stronger team, but Norway has been on a roll and form of the day will be the key. If England is not 100% focused, Norway will punish any lapse in concentration.

As long as Argentina are defeated sometime soon, (preferably by Switzerland) I will rest (relatively) content.

I actually enjoy being at least 80% neutral, after Sweden was knocked out.
My favourites now can shift faster than the winds.
But surely it would make me smile if Norway knocks out England 😛

Brazil is not the most cohesive team; they are too dependent on their european based stars over the ability to play tactically as a team. Ancelotti's coaching style has been like this for a while, relying on the stars make the play instead of focusing on trying to work as a team. I want Norway to advance as well, but it will be tough against England which can attack probably even faster thanks to Gordan than France.
I'm kind of torn in several games.
For exemple I love England but I also like Norway. England is our oldest ally but Norway is our trusted cod supplier. You can't mess with our cod.
Several English players seem like wonderful guys but so do the Norwegian players (Aursnes and Schjelderup even play in my club) .
Haaland nowadays gets all the attention but Kane is also a nice fellow.
Well, may the best team win.
Between Spain and Belgium I'm not so neutral. I have several Spanish friends and would be happy for them.
I would also like Switzerland to win just for the pure LOL factor. So many "people" would be disturbed.
In the end France seems able to steamroll anyone while playing a really delightful football.
Just yesterday there were two exquisite goals. First that masterful shot from Mbappé. The second is even better from a teamwork POV with several players moving to drag the defense to give just that minuscule centimeter Dembelé needed to take his shot.

World Cup is the one time I allow myself to be irrational and hyper-partisan, I bleed orange (Dutch team), we are the good guys and everybody else is the bad guy. It's more fun when you allow yourself to be emotionally invested.
Being rational and objective is for chess, not World Cup football!
And Argentina is evil and must be stopped at all cost!

Predicable Spanish win over Belgium, who scored two goals off rebounds. I feel bad that Senne Lammens came on and conceded the winner, but it wasn't any worse than Courtois' spill for the first goal.

I've made peace with the fact that France will win it.
Don't see anyone laying a glove on them. Even Argentina.

For me, this sort of emotional investment tends to take two directions: This means that while there are teams that you want to see succeed, to do well, teams that you cheer and are thrilled by their success, (especiaoly if they are an appealing underdog), there are also teams that you (passionately) want to see not just defeated, but absolutely and totally and utterly destroyed.
