I would agree, but there's no shame in that. England are in 'dark horse' status now. Really nothing to lose I'd say.

Go out in the knockout stage it’s a public hanging.
Go out in the quarter finals (depending on opposition) it’s acceptable.
Get to the semis it’s success.
Final or win and the world goes mad! I hear rumours of a bank holiday if we win the cup. So here’s hoping! I could do with a day off!

Nice to see England progress, but Norway (and, indeed, Switzerland) made many friends with the conduct, attitude and performance of both their teams and their supporters.

Moreover, I never thought I would find myself echoing what @Lord Blackadder has already written about Erling Haaland: That he is actually a likeable, humble and engaging chap when NOT attired in a Manchester City shirt.

However, the next game is the first time I will be passionate about England: Not just because I want to see England do well, (which I do) but - above all - because I want to see Argentina defeated, destroyed, thrashed.

France v England for the final, France to win. Spain v Argentina for third place, Spain to win. If we had a 1950 final pool round-robin group rather than the knockout round that we've got, it would be France, Spain, England, Argentina in that order. England and Argentina's paths to this point have been rather Perils of Pauline affairs. France and Spain seem more "together". But you never know -- in the forge of adversity, improvisation can emerge.

I think there is a certain bias in the refereeing. That Messi wasn’t sent off and banned for two matches for pretty much the same foul that Jarrel Quansah was punished for, that the VAR didn’t examine Mo Salah’s penalty claim deep in extra time… it speaks of bias towards the bigger nations and their best players.

Whether there is outright, systematic corruption, that I do not know.

I think it's safe to say that FIFA is spectacularly corrupt but it was away from the pitch in the past and didn't really affect the actual games. I think the whole way they handled the player bans following red cards in this tournament crossed a rubicon...

I think the most blatant corruption was the overturned red card. But who expected any better of a certain someone to not get involved.

Bad decisions happen in every game at every level. The purpose of VAR was to stop that and to have a much more consistent refereeing.

It hasn’t worked. Probably made it worse. But idiots running the game persist with it.

Pathetic.

This is really too bad as football, along with hockey, is my favourite team sport. I had a great time following the Women's Euro last year and it was fresh and hopeful. Our students, especially the young women, were rather excited by that and most were American.

Our channel showed short video where Norway landed with their plane in Oslo to be celebrated.
Haaland and Sander Berge wasn't interested in that, and went on with a privat jet with their girlfriends. They didn’t look too sad.

I also took notice of how Messi lectured a Referee - in another clip - and told him to speak to him with respect 👍🏻

The press here are full of pictures of Haaland coming off the pane clutching a stuffed Racoon... Not the sort of thing I'd normally picture a red blooded Norseman bringing back from a long foreign adventure!
