Delighted that Spain won, and even more delighted that Argentina - who are a disgrace to the game - were defeated.

Actually, initially, I had thought to class Argentina as the Millwall of international football, but now think that that dubious honour belongs to Paraguay; instead, I submit that Argentina be thought of as the Leeds (the old, filthy dirty, thuggish Leeds, of the 1970s, who kicked their way around the pitch and excelled at booting and brawling even though they were sufficiently talented to play some seriously good football when the mood took them).
You should check more into the Argentinian sides of the 60s and 70s. Any time the majority of players are Argie or the manager is from there then it turned out to be a kicking fest of brutality. Revie's Leeds were Saints (not Southampton) compared to those Argie animals.

You make a fair and reasonable point - and one with which I find myself in whole-hearted agreement.
In any case, my detestation of - actually, my loathing of - Argentina long pre-dates this, most recent, World Cup.
They are a horrible side, brutal, filthy, nasty, prone to fouling, cheating, pure thugs, with no grace, decency, or dignity - features that were most recently and amply demonstrated by their thoroughly graceless post full-time conduct which was both disgraceful and despicable, but not, alas, remotely surprising.
The fact that Lionel Messi plays for them does not, in any way, redeem them, in my opinion, and the presence of Messi in that ghastly team does not excuse their conduct, and nor does it excuse the relatively easy ride - along with some suspiciously soft decisions going their way - they had throughout this tournament.

I skipped the final yesterday. I think that’s the first one in my lifetime.
I just couldn’t stand to watch the way Argentina play.
Or the way America present football. So glad they are unlikely to host the event again in my lifetime.

Ha! Just woke up from my nap. I bet we had a hundred or so wearing red gear from Spain. Definitely a happy group, although not as outwardly festive as I imagined - probably worn out from the evening. 😛

Among others, I would include the risible so-called entertainment during the world cup final that was permitted to last for half an hour - normally, half time in a game of football (soccer) lasts only fifteen minutes; and, of course, the "hydration" breaks.
Then, there were the ludicrous prices for tickets and shameless gouging - and other treatment - of fans (and footballers).
In any case, football (soccer) is not American football, and doesn't require the ridiculous "entertainment" trappings of the latter.

England have no reason to feel ashamed of themselves (unlike Argentina).
They reached the semi-final of the World Cup, - no mean achievement, especially in conditions that were a lot less than ideal - conducted themselves well throughout the tournament, and went out on a wonderful high with the spectacular defeat of France in the tie for third place; third place in the world is no cause for shame.

The half time show, from what I have read produced by FIFA and Global Citizen...
The hydration breaks were also part of FIFA no? I was under the impression that this was a new rule by FIFA mandating the three-minute hydration breaks.
