Those 3rd/4th place games are utterly worthless and players don't want to participate. They should be tossed in the trash where they belong. Nobody cares.

What I loved about this match was the fair play and sportsmanship, no dirty stuff.
I highly doubt tomorrow will be anywhere near as clean and fun as this was.

While this match couldn't have happened in regular competition this was certainly one of the most (if not the most) fun and entertaining matches I have watched in WCs.

For me this third place playoff was football as it is meant to be played - free-flowing, skilful, attack-minded, fair. The referee was nearly invisible, as he should be. It’s good that there was very little at stake, it was a bit of redemption for the game.
I thought the World Cup as a whole was bloated and messy, there was no way to watch all the games or even all the goals. There was a heavy hand of corruption over the thing. I enjoyed the play, but I didn’t enjoy the event much.

The final has a lot to live up to after last nights game, I did end up watching it and glad I did. Best England performance in my life time.

What absolute garbage is this nonsense leading up to kick off? Nobody cares about these non-entities and just want the game to be played. Play the two national anthems with teams out five mins before KO and that should be it. It is just a complete melee of a worthless spectacle. Tom Cruise wouldn't know a football from a volleyball.
Weird that Spain’s anthem is just a recording, but Argentina’s is a special rendition by a national artist.

I’m really disappointed the BBC are showing the pop concert rather than giving fans longer analysis. There was talk they wouldn’t.

For some strange reason my mind translated this as “Tom Cruise wouldn’t know a football from a badminton shuttle.” Curious.
A few stats about the game, Spain winning the possession battle 62% vs 38 for Argentina, 3 shots and 2 on target vs 0, 89% pass accuracy compared to 81% for Argentina, and 7 fouls and no cards vs 9 fouls and 1 yellow card.
The player who got a yellow was Argentina’s central defender Lisandro Martinez.
The Argentine mentality when things go against them is very raw and agricultural. They are a nasty nation of soccer players in the most basic elements. You see it in this game.
Both Paredes and Tagliafico should be on their second yellows already.
