Diatribe said:Don't expect this this year. It'll be previewed 2006 and be coming out 2007. Which would give Apple about 2 years between the upgrades as they said they were slowing it down. I'd say spring/summer 2007 is a good date for 10.5.
1. Xvid is apparently not supported, but industry standard HD formats are supported. By "industry" I mean production industry, not software industry. The Shadow said:Excuse me for being completely ignorant, but does this new support for HD formats also mean that Q7 and FCS apps will support xvid?![]()
I noticed they support AC3, which FCP HD and Studio Pro 3 do not, to my utter annoyance.![]()
Guess I'll have to wait and see, but thanks anyone for your opinions.![]()

Hey, you could just switch to Avid and pay $3495 for their HD editing suite, but wait, that's currently PC only. $699 is still an incredible bargain.esquared said:Just called Apple about those of us who already own the 3 apps in the Editing Suite seperately, was told we have to pay the $699, NOT the $499 we're entitled to. Apple could have updated its ENTIRE line of desktops and portables yesterday and that would not have overshadowed Final Cut Studio. This idea of staggering announcements for the sake of not stealing thunder from products is mistaken. While it might make sense from an entertainment perspective, business wise it would be ruinous to hold back products for fear of "overshadowing." Besides, HD video demands faster hardware than what's out. A dual 2.5 does the job but certain renders and encodes still take a long time.crpchristian said:Uhm...Does anyone know what is going on with the Apple Booth today? Is there a link describing it/showing it off or can anyone briefly describe what was under all the black covers? I realize there were no PMs today or people would be talking about it already. Coming out tomorrow maybe? Is it just software being shown off today? That would make sense, its not like you'd want (if its coming) new hardware technology to overshadow such a big video/software update the day (after)its announced.

OK, well, we've each been told something different. I was told by 2 different people at Apple Support, you at 2 different occasions by the Apple store. I hope you're right, but the proof is in the doing. I need alot more convincing, with all respect to you. I'll take the wait and see approach.dosers said:That's not true: I called the Apple store on 2 occasions (today and yesterday), for a personal and business purchase. In both cases I was assured that I am able to purchase (and have ordered!) the $499 production suite upgrade IF I own Motion, Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro SEPERATELY. The install will check the aplications on your system and upgrade them. The $699 upgrade is only neccessary if you do not have ALL applications already.
Best, dan

That appears to be the case. Just be sure to have at least 1GB of RAM and a 1GHz or faster processor.revenuee said:i can edit my HDV footage on any of the new powerbooks right?
the only thing i really need a G5 for is if i want to burn HD to a HD DVD? meaning that if the need came, i can just take an external hard drive with my footage, hook it up to a capable machine and go from there?
i can just easily downgrade my HDV captured footage to 16:9 ratio SD and burn it to play on just SD DVD's? the current used by everybody?
Dan, I was told that if I buy the Suite upgrade, it will look for only 1 serial number to match, not 3. Apparently, those who bought the earlier suite version were given only 1 serial for the entire 3 apps. That is the number that the upgrade will try to reference. That's what I was told.dosers said:Hey, that's fair enough, and I understand that.
All I can say is that I have 2 orders placed, with the Apple store, for the $499 studio upgrades which I am told will work perfectly. I obviously haven't 'tried' it.
But, if you consider this: Who, if not us, WOULD be eligible for the $499 upgrade ? It's a fact the $699 upgrade is a one-product upgrade, i.e. it's clear on Apple's website that you can upgrade for $699 if you have any ONE of the products mentioned (as proven by the BUY button). So, the upgrade from the product suite, purely logically, comes into play if you have not one but all the products (that were previously available) installed and owned already....
For what it's worth, I can give you my order number - maybe you can reference my sales person(s).....
Best,
Dan

You're welcome. Who knows, maybe we'll get an H.264 co-processor in the next PowerBooks (with or without a dual-core e600 or low power G5). That would rock.revenuee said:ya ... i can deal with the solution then ... awesome ... that makes me feel a little better
who knows, maybe we'll see some form of processor in the next powerbook that will be able to handle it anyway ... LOL ... dare to dream ..
thanks for your help
Also, according to this http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/dvdstudiopro/upgradeguide.html , the only app. you may upgrade from to get Studio is FCP.dosers said:Hey, that's fair enough, and I understand that.

Its about time apple used flash on their website. The website is so plain.
You were right Dan, I just found this page, http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/topquestions.html, which clearly says we are entitled to the $499 upgrade price. Now, if someone at Apple would be kind enough to inform their employees about this policy, it would greatly help keep my blood pressure in checkdosers said:Hey, that's fair enough, and I understand that.

Animation and motion graphics are pretty much distinct categories from video, so maybe the question is how many musicians are also animators?crpchristian said:Of course..how many video nerds are music nerds too![]()
