This commercial was rumored before the iphone was stolen.

Interesting. So what does this mean? I'm gonna put on my conspiracy theorist hat for a moment...

Apple did the diner commercial with the plot being currently reported by 9to5. Apple then had Gray leave the phone on purpose (to tie in with the spot). Here's where Apple's control ended: When the phone was picked up, it was illegally sold to Gizmodo, who, outside the law, has had all this stuff happen for not returning it posthaste. Basically Apple planned the commercial as-is and the "loss", but went ahead with the laws for theft of intellectual property when Gizmodo, well, broke them.

*hat off*

Yeah, that's weird. Sad that real people think like that.

Apple couldn't guarantee that the phone would be found by someone who cared. Someone could have just gave it to the police station.

It sounds funny as he77, but I bet this is just for WWDC-- I can't believe they would broadcast this to the world.

None of the WWDC spots have ever gone on to national broadcast, you are correct. There's no concern about content, therefore.

I agree. Sure, the fanbois will laugh. However, many others will use this against Apple.

Please. Apple could give away 100% effective cancer treatments and people would complain with lame points like:
• Why didn't they come out with it sooner?
• This one is clearly featureless, see it only cures kidney, pancreatic and thyroid cancer. They could cure additional ones like breast and lung cancer but they are waiting for the next version to do so. TYPICAL APPLE!!11!
• Apple is being anti-competitive towards biotechs by giving it away for free. Lawsuit!

Yay! A reenactment!

Maybe it will start with a disclaimer "You are about to witness a reenactment of actual events. Remember that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law." then end with the COPS music.

Wonder if the Apple engineer will be in the video?

It's a good thing for Justin Long not to be in it. I have nothing against him, and I wish him a successful and lucrative future acting career. However, his "Mac" character in those commercials was smug. It actually made me a little ashamed to be seen in public with my Mac. The "PC" character was much more likable, even though the product he represents (i.e. computers running Vista) is inferior to what the "Mac" character represents (i.e. computers running OS X).

It's bad enough that fanboys are so smug, but there's no reason for a commercial to be that way.

...Gray Powell makes an appearance during the keynote. If he doesn't, Steve Jobs has absolutely no sense of humor.

Even better would be Jobs wearing Steve Wozniak's "I got drunk with Gray Powell" t-shirt instead of his turtleneck.

i agree, Gray Powell needs to appear in this keynote.

That wouldn't be very consistent with Jobs' D8 attitude about it. I think he takes this too seriously to joke about it. We'll see.

...he joked about it at D8, how would this NOT be consistent with that attitude?

Best commercials ever, they're funny because they're true. I'm going to miss them, but knowing Apple they probably have something better up their sleeves.

I wish I was at the Developer Conference front row and center.

That area is reserved for the Press, but if you are lucky they fill in the extra seats with people at the front of the line. I've been front/center in a past year. It isn't really that hard if you naturally wake up at 5 am pacific time and can walk across the street to the conference center. The people at the front of the line are generally from the east coast.

24 style reenactment!

well if it was a reenactment i would much rather prefer "The following takes place between 11:00pm and 12:00 am, events occur in real time" followed by jack bauer being called in to investigate and recover the lost iPhone. And ending with jack sucessfully recovering the iPhone after torturing everyone from the person who stole it to the person who bought it and anyone in between.
