well if it was a reenactment i would much rather prefer "The following takes place between 11:00pm and 12:00 am, events occur in real time" followed by jack bauer being called in to investigate and recover the lost iPhone. And ending with jack sucessfully recovering the iPhone after torturing everyone from the person who stole it to the person who bought it and anyone in between.

I think Jack should be taken hostage by Gizmodo.

NO NO can't get rid of the "Get a Mac" commercials they are like the only ones on tv now and days that actually make any sense...

1. the actors contracts have ended and no way would Justin Long agree to a total buyout on all media for such a low price again. And recasting would not go over well.

2. the 'truths' just aren't as much anymore. Windows 7 might still suck compared to Mac OSX but it is way better than previous versions of Windows. and they have responded to a number of the gripes presented in those ads

3. the joke is getting old. way old

Now is the time to do a new style. Stop focusing on why Mac is better than Windows and just focus on Mac. Do something similar to what they do with the iphone and the ipad. Show folks using it.

They could do an iphone like app about anything. Say taking a trip and organizing and uploading photos (they could even name check Mobile Me). Or editing a home movie of the kids dance recital for the grands. or talking on ichat. oh how cute would it be to have the 3 year old talking to granny.

Or imagine if they did some pro versions of the same game. Feature known companies that use Macs, talking about using Macs. They could do something like a clip that airs in theaters before the movie with like Pixar. They don't even have to say "we use macs" flat out. Just show the machines and the logos, name check Final Cut, Motion etc. Or say the director of the movie you are about to watch talking about editing right on the set. They could even air them as teasers for the movies.

There's lots of ways they could go, without nagging on Windows 'faults'.

Maybe it will start with a disclaimer "You are about to witness a reenactment of actual events. Remember that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law." then end with the COPS music.

Heh heh! As a really old fart i would have cued the old Dragnet theme music, but COPS works as well.

Dum de dum...dum de dum...dum de dum de dum..."This is the city...My name is Friday...I'm a cop..."

So Powell is still with Apple? That's good. Makes me like Apple all the more.

Yes, Powell has retained his job, which has caused all the conspiracy theories. On a side note, Go Bulls !!! I actually went there for two semesters in 1981 (I graduated Chamberlain High School, Class of '81), prior to joining the Navy:D After 22 years in uniform, I managed to get a BS in Computer Science from Hawaii Pacific University, but still root for the Bulls - at least now they have a football team!

..
It's bad enough that fanboys are so smug, but there's no reason for a commercial to be that way.

I never saw this. Yes, I like Apple products, but I rarely saw those commercials, and when I did I saw none of the supposed "smugness."

Justin Long's Mac character came off as confident not smug. Smug wouldn't commiserate when PC puts himself down. In fact, smug would have put down PC himself. Mac might have asked what PC was doing, but I don't recall him ever insulting or parodying PC. PC was insecure. PC had an inferiority complex. Mac was just confident in himself and what he could do, yet didn't take excessive pleasure or pride in that.

(Yeah, I'm over analyzing characters in a commercial, but I'd heard enough of that "smug" charge)

Gray's accident was just so, an accident.

Gizmodo's subsequent theft was also just so, theft of intellectual property.

Apple is making light of the scenario, not the outcome.

Sorry, this isnt theft of IP fanboy. If it had been the police wouldnt have gotten involved. IP is civil matter, not a criminal one.

I'm really happy with the new iPhone, can't wait to get it. Thought the keynote went well. But I am totally bummed this wasn't real. This would have been really really funny.

Bummer!

Windows 7 might still suck compared to Mac OSX but it is way better than previous versions of Windows.
Kind of disagree. Windows 7 sucks so bad I finally swallowed all my excuses and switched to Mac. After having used my Mac for a month, my bootcamp installation is just unbearable to use...

You can fix a lot of things, but you can't fix a broken design.

You'd be surprised where I'm coming from, given my opinion but I know better than to talk about that stuff on an online forum :)

So did they show this at WWDC 2010 or not...?

Justin Long's Mac character came off as confident not smug. Smug wouldn't commiserate when PC puts himself down. In fact, smug would have put down PC himself. Mac might have asked what PC was doing, but I don't recall him ever insulting or parodying PC. PC was insecure. PC had an inferiority complex. Thanks for that -- people constantly charging Long's Mac character with smugness and ignoring all the work by the actor, director(s), and writers to make him humble (if self-confident), helpful, and forgiving of all of PC's tricks, lies, and shenanigans has always bugged me.

So did anyone reading this go to WWDC? No one has reported as to whether this video was actually shown or not. I only had time to watch the beginning of the keynote video, but it didn't appear in that section, at least.

I checked YouTube but only see the Hodgman/Long WWDC clips from 2006, 2007, and 2009.
