Disclaimer, I on on the 5 week waiting list with Apple and could not care less if it is 5 weeks or 15. I don't know what percentage of Apple's parts come out of Japan, but if more than a few, supply chain impacts are hardly surprising IMO.
- iPad 2's will be 8+ weeks back ordered due to component manufacturing shut down (Japan tsunami crisis).
If this is right, considering what's going on in Japan right now, a shortage of iPad's should not register as a concern to anybody.
Apple will no longer be opening at 9am for iPad sales.
Shortage or not, I really hope so. That just seems to make reseller's lives that much easier.
- Apple did hoard iPad's for the international launch but did not hoard as much for the US launch. Massive shortages will occur.
You make is sound like this is something important. Like food, water, or gasoline or something. 'OMG, massive shortages of iPads! What will we do!? The horror
Apple is not telling the whole truth when they said there Japanese vendors are fine.
Of course they are not telling the whole truth. Why should they unless required by law? A corporation being vague to keep competitors guessing and markets moving? Color me surprised.
Normal production will restart sometime in the summer (June-July).
Eh, I'll/we'll live. It does make you wonder, if true, how this may impact Apple's schedule for other products in the pipe line. Heck, this little issue in Japan could ripple through the entire CE industry and really set schedules on their ears. If they need a good lead time to get holiday products in the warehouses a delay of a few months could be a big deal.
If iPad 2's are no longer a viability, does that mean iPad 1's are going to get real popular ($$)? Hey speculators, you going to run out and buy up iPad 1's?
