I am glad you found the perfect phone for your needs. I wouldn't be so anal about those things but to each its own. Agree that it IS and expensive phone and bill on top of it. Because of apple, you can't really expect the best quality control and this case is one of the example.

Yeah because that will really help their customers to come back. That wasn't a very well thought out statement. Besides, all the ones I brought back are perfectly refurbishable and resellable. It's not like I'm wasting iPhones... Apple should really be paying me for wasting my time and gas money to get an iPhone that I should have gotten in the FIRST place.

You're not going to make me feel bad because I don't.

Oh wow. You know there's a cost associated with reconditioning, refurbishing, repacking and redistributing the phones you're returning, right? Maybe they should be charging YOU a restocking fee.

Don't get me wrong - I had to return a couple phones myself due to defects. But I didn't post each step of what I did to the board here. I just went in real life and did what I had to in real life - no need to 'alert' the forum to my business.

Just drop it. Quit while you're ahead, man.

There's nothing wrong in what I did. If you do not wanna read my story, then don't and also you don't have to reply to my thread.

Just drop it.

But if I drop it, it might crack ;)

Seriously dude, if you have a problem with me alerting people about what they *might* get into by purchasing an iPhone 3G, then don't click on my threads... it's simple really.

Likewise, if you don't want people telling you the flat-out truth - don't post on a public forum. You post A LOT, man. You're hard to avoid around here.

But ya, thanks for your "service" in "alerting" people what they *might* get

Who are you to say what the "Flat-out truth" is? What kind of a response is that? I do post a lot, so what? Is there some sort of limit I am unaware of? As long as I'm not breaking the rules, I should be able to post what I want.

Also, you're welcome. I'm putting my experience out there so other people know what to expect... is that so wrong? Think what you want, but there's clearly an issue with Apple's quality the last couple of years. Since they're more mainstream now, the demand is much higher and the amount of product they have to produce is probably overwhelming.

I find it amusing to read your stories and posts. It's hard for me to believe there are people that anal. By reading your posts, it proves to me that people like you do exist. And as far as replying, this isn't a one-way storytelling site. It's a public discussion forum.

I may disagree with the way you nitpick your iPhone to death, but that doesn't make me right and you wrong. You need to pursue whatever path makes you happy, and you do, so I'm glad that you finally have an iPhone that you are pleased with.

I hope you can truly enjoy your iPhone now for what it's meant for and not spend any more time looking at it with a magnifying glass and hanging out in dark public restrooms.

Thank you. I am rather enjoying my iPhone. Before, whenever I used my iPhone I was constantly thinking about the flaws and it really, truly bothered me. Now to have one that is (in my mind perfect) I can sit back, relax and enjoy it for what it really is.... and the way Apple intended.

My 3G which I have owned since late July has a minor defect, there is a bit of light leak out of the front *IF* you are using it in total or near total darkness and *IF* you look at the screen at just the right angle (about 45 degrees from the left side of the phone if I recall). I wasn't searching for this flaw, but noticed it when using the phone one evening perhaps a week after I bought it.

It appears that many who post on here would have immediately rushed back to AT&T / Apple to demand a replacement. Does it speak badly of me that I have decided that I'm OK with this very minor defect and will keep the iPhone 3G?

If that's the ONLY problem you have is minor light leak, then keep it. My situation was different. I had more than just light leak and on iPhone #2, the light leak was so bad that it didn't matter how I held it in the dark, it showed in at least 2 places at a time and 3 places if I rotated it slightly. Even the iPhone I have now has a very, very small light leak, but everything else is so good that I don't care about this light leak... in fact, my first Gen iPhone had a more noticeable light leak that I didn't care about. It's just when it's all down one side that it's a major problem. I wish I would have taken a photo of it.

wow, is the quality of the iphone 3G this bad?!??!

My original 1st gen iphone is rock solid. My T-mobile contract just expired and i was thinking of getting a iphone 3G and switching to ATT.

It's not THAT bad
its just because of the plastic, there is much more inconsistency when it comes to the manufacturing process. Plastic changes shape at a much much lower temperature than aluminum. However, I've had my iPhone 3G since day one and it looks/works just fine. Even if the bezel doesn't line up perfectly, it won't affect the functionality or look of the phone at all :/

seriously though, I never actually look closely at the phone that much. Sure, I use it. play with it. But really all I care is the whole phone is functioning and the screen has no dead pixles and also responsive as it should be. I have a tiny dent on the back of my phone since I've bought it(found it after I brought the phone back home) but I didn't even bother. Just put on the case and call it a day. But again, to each its own. You want to get a phone that is really perfect in your mind like you said and you don't mind spending all the time to fulfill it, then that's your business. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I find it perplexing and hilarious that you don't see the enormity of your problem(s). I'd bet the farm you will live out a sad, unfullfilling pathetic life. That is all.

I'm sure you'll find something new to complain about soon enough - you tend to be very vocal about your likes/dislikes here on the boards, and you also tend to do complete 180s all the time.

4 days, tops.

I'm with you Spaz. 500 ain't chump change. I don't buy shirts that have holes in them or sneakers that look worn. Why would I be satisfied with a used looking iPhone?

The Portland store is now my favorite store! They always gave me such a hard time in Salem NH.

Give it time, they will start to recognize you.

You are like a lady that used to come into my place of work during college. As soon as someone saw her coming "Favorite!" was yelled out. Whoever was the last one in the area was left to deal with her. She was never happy about service, never happy about products, always wanted something for free.

Wow... that's not like me at all. I buy a LOT of things at the Apple store, they should have no problem with me coming in. Hah! I don't complain about everything... 99% of the time, I get exactly what I want... I've never as many problems as the iPhone 3G.

Say whatever you want. I'm a customer and since Apple should be the one pleasing me... I shouldn't be the one biting my lip and just dealing with a used-quality product. When I buy something new, it should be in "new" condition, that's all.

That's the thing tho - if you were to take a magnifying glass to those shirts and sneakers ... none of them would be perfect!

Each stitch would be slightly different, and not in a perfect line. The material might have the slightest curve to the cut, or possibly isn't cut at perfect exacting angles (god forbid!). The shoes may not be perfectly identical. Maybe the insoles don't fit exactly right, if you look close enough. Maybe the shoes laces are themselves slightly different in length (or indeed the shoe lace tips).

Now that I think about -- I'm off to the Nike store for a fresh pair!!

Shoes and shirts are not a complicated piece of technology. We're talking about a high end electronic gadget. Look at the iPhone... does it seem like there's a TON of things to look at? You can look at the front, back, bottom, sides and then there's only 4 buttons on the entire thing. Please don't compare a $500 phone to a pair of shoes, it's not the same.

Just for the record, I never took a magnifying glass to my iPhone and I certainly do not look at my shoes 12" from my face.

Did you actually pay $500 for the iPhone or the subsidized price $199/$299?

Yes, I paid $499, but the actual iPhone costs $699 (unsubsidized).

I got hit with an early upgrader's fee. Why do they penalize you for spending more money? I buy a 1st Gen iPhone... I decide I no longer want the first gen, so I upgrade to a 3G 3 months later and now I have to pay $500 for a 3G... that's weird.

yeah you're right, I didn't use a magnifying glass for the Nike Boots I just bought on my lunch break (yeah, i'm from DC, we wear Nike Boots, lol), but I did check to see if there were scratches on them, and make sure there's no dirt on the bottom from someone previously wearing them.

I can't walk around with scratches on my boots.
I can't go to work with holes in my shirt/ties.
and I can't walk around with an iPhone with a lazy screen that leaks light.

Swagger at a 100 and climbin... lol

What's "weird" about it? It's called a CONTRACT.

no no no, this is akin to retuning shoes because the stitching isn't exactly straight on them or the logo isnt positioned just right by the slightest degree lol

edit: saw someone beat me to that point already lol
