If they really get Apple TV that can do 4K + HDR +atmos? Surely that's worth a big price increase...$299? I mean getting that far out in front of the competition should be worth more, new ground breaking technology comes with a big price tag.
Youtube and NBAI wonder what people use their Apple TV for mostly.
Youtube and NBA
Don't most people have Smart tv these days?

I have 8 64gb Apple TV's. 2 of them use > 32gb but the other 6 do not. Maybe we will have more options to use more storage making the 64gb more valuable going forward.I'm in for one.
Hopefully it launches this fall and has (usable for movies/tv) onboard storage.
Why the hell did I buy the 64Gb one again?
I would like to see Apple use a similar strategy as the iPad. Start out with a low amount of storage for those that stream only and do not play games and do not have a need to store movies or tv shows on the device. Maybe like the Sticks from other. Also, might be nice to have a Pro Version with a faster processor so that those who want a more powerful game platform could have it. Of course Apple would have to open up the file system like it does for the iPad. I read a lot on here where people would like to have a similar device to the Apple TV 1 for local storage.i knew the 64GB was overkill, but i got a good price on it lol - i usually stream all of my content (directvnow, nba, youtube) so maybe next time around ill get whatever the lowest capacity they offer

4K + HDR + Atmos can definitely command a premium. But I think $299 is slightly to high. An Xbox One S runs $279 and is probably the upper limit of what Apple can charge for "just" a streaming box.
You guys know the current ATV 4 is $150 and $199. So, unless they shock us with a $99 entry level box it will not be less the $200 for a 64gb box. I would expect similar pricing but with maybe some additional options.Look at the Amazon Fire 4K boxes. This can run 4K. HDR10 doesn't need a license and Dolby Atmos can be bitstreamed without a license (i.e. let the licensed receiver decode it). The only likely extra cost would be a Dolby vision license which is likely ~$3 per box. If this costs more than $150 then Apple have messed up big time - especially as the AppleTV is sinking in the rankings and doesn't have the army of people who will buy it at any cost. Maybe if Apple release a gaming version with controller and make a big push to bring big games to the platform I could see it reach $200...
I'm not saying you won't be proven correct, but it's a stupid move from Apple if you are!
I think whats missing on the UK version are ITV, STV, Channel 4 and 5. They are all available on smart TVs, Rokus and NOWTV boxes, so why no Apple TV apps? If they were available I probably wouldn't bother with Sky and I'd be more willing to buy Apple TVs for the rest of the house.I disagree - if you are an old style TV viewer there's Sky and Freesat/Freeview and BT. Apple should stick to what they are amazing at - internet style - Airplay, home sharing, iTunes along with apps like YouTube, Netflix, Vimeo, RedBull etc. Apple joining the 'mainstream' worries me as that's never what they did best - they were the non-conformists for the creatives and non-conformists :

And still not bothered for 4K...

So freaking glad I waited I am so excited. I am hoping Apple keeps its $149 Price but part of me doubts that. IMO Apple in keeping with its Product line segregation strategy will market this as the Apple TV Pro to fit its line up of Mac and Mac Pro, iPad and iPad Pro, and MacBook and MacBook Pro. Offering a $99-$150 Budget friendly standard Apple TV, and a top tier Apple TV Pro at $200-$250.
Will definitely pick up but will keep my shield as well until kodi is allowed in the app store
I'm sure that there'll be a 128GB option for the J105 ATV5. You have to take into consideration the temporary downloading of a 3+ hour film at 4K HDR HEVC along with the beautiful new 4K HDR Screensavers and 4K HDR games that will appear for it. 128GB is going to seem a minimum with all of that 🙂I wouldn't be surprised if the ATV4 drops one of the models (i.e., the 32 or 64GB), it's a confusing consumer message and I'm thinking a new one will just have a single storage capacity so they could normalize the spec (and potentially reduce some component cost).
My prediction: ATV4 64GB drops to $179 MSRP, ATV5 (only 64GB) comes in at $229, 32GB ATV4 gets EOL'ed. 😀
