Yeah but no. These icons were all fetched from iTunes, not iOS.
You can see the new icon on the iTunes website as well, so it's got nothing to do with iOS 7's "auto-flattening".

Ah, I did not realize that. iOS 7 seems to remove layers from the icon, it was quite interesting to see the changes.

Why is this front page news...

while the Macbook Pro news is 2nd Page?!!?

Makes no sense at all. Bring on the MBPros!

It's a bit easier to see the changes on the Find my Friends icon on these full size icons.

Now the corner radius for the stitching on the Find my Friends Icon does not match the new corner radius for iOS7. Freshman icon designer mistake 101...Honestly, who is doing this work and why have they not been fired?

----------

When I was running the iOS 7 beta, I noticed certain apps icons changed automatically even if the dev had not updated them.

There is something in the iOS 7 code that flattens icons in certain situations. It wasn't universal but noticeable on certain apps- like Pocket NoAgenda.

I bet that is what is going on with Find my Friends.

no. not a correct assessment of the situation.

Not Bad Either

When I looked at the comparison between Old and New Icons on MacRumors, my first response was, "That new icon is ugly as sh**". But, when I updated the app on my iPhone and looked at the app icon of 'find my phone' over the old textured background of a folder, it (new icon) actually seemed better than old one. (I don't have iOS7 on my phone these days, so couldn't see the icon on it, though)

In the beginning, I was hating the flat look of iOS7, but, slowly started liking it.

I think over the time everybody will start loving it. Flat newer look looks neat and cleaner than older look, after-all.

Plus, the latest updated app icons and app interface is something worth appreciation for e.g. New YouTube icon and App similarly RetailMeNot App icon and App itself.

The icon they used is quite nice, although I might like the old one better (maybe due to that dot to the right on the radar).

I've heard they will soon be releasing an App called: "Find the last working version", which will go through all official Apple apps and download the older versions automatically.

Regression for sure.

What is the point of high pixel density if you are going to turn everything into flat filled shapes and remove detail?

I am not saying I was a fan of making everything look like desktop notepads and felt lined tables, but I'm also not a fan of Microsoft's Metro look that uses 4 colors and boxes to represent a "modern" UI.

I mean if it wasn't for the rounded corners on the icons there would be no point for Retina because there would be no need for anti-aliasing.

you are missing the point. typography and plain colors have been guiding people throughout their physical lives for many years and fortunately the same is being applied to the digital realm. we need clear and simple directions to get us through our already clutter and over-detailed life.

judging by your comment you don't know what antialiasing is. most of the ui is vector based, so almost everything is antialised. retina displays have smaller pixels and everything is crisp, and the typography is much more readable. you know type is everywhere, and you can't live without it, so retinas are definitely welcome.

what you're saying doesn't make sense. it' like: what's the point of having an HD tv, if i'm only seeing plain cartoon movies? you know that those cartoons will look much better on the HD tv ;)

cheers

The new icon goes to show that the app might be useless. I mean, there's your cue, right there, in the new icon: no device is not picked-up by the radar, like in the old icon.

I haven't been thrilled with all of the flat icons but I think this one looks better than most. It conveys the purpose quite well.

Now if they'd only acknowledge/fix/pull/revert/whateverittakes yesterday's Podcasts update. Version 1.2.2 is horribly broken (at least under iOS 6).

I was fortunate in noticing and being able to revert and recover from the mess before leaving the house. Others, with more aged iTunes Library organization, will not have as easy a time, since prior versions of apps were simply deleted rather than filed into a subfolder. Really underscores the need for a version revert mechanism throughout iTunes...

What is "horribly broken"?

I noticed at least 4 different ways prior to reverting. See the current version reviews in the App Store for plenty of similar experience.

- crashes and exits on load
- freezes on splash screen
- locks up all controls and display while playing (if you were lucky enough to get that far)
- never-ending spinning update indicator (including network access, when no over-air updates are set)

Simply moved back to 1.2.1, and all's fine again. You know, other than iTunes now nagging about a newer version it wants to install.

Odd, haven't experienced that on an iOS 7 beta 6 or an iOS 6.1.4 iPhone 5 devices.

The old icon was better because you could see at a glance if you left your iPhone in Iceland or Tanzania instead of thinking that it has slipped down the back of the sofa.

Anyone else have an issue with this crashing on their iOS 7 Beta? Running Beta 6, iPhone 5, paid developer account. The Beta of the app from the developer area was working fine, so I deleted it and installed the new 2.0.3 from the store, but it crashes every time I select a device to see it's location. I will see the map for a second or 2, then the crash.
