this is buggy!!!

Every since the auto-update, FF seems to be loosing the ability to let me type in the URL bar. I have to close the window and open a new one to allow typing in the URL bar.

Since I am a multi-platform user, Firefox is a godsend for me. Whether I'm in OS X, Windows, or Linux, the environment, extension (for the most part), bookmarks, search engines, etc. are all the same. It's why I use Firefox over Safari, and now that it's a Universal Binary I am a very happy Mac user now. :)

I see it on the front page too - bottom right corner of this image:

EDIT - it's been fixed.

I used firefox for a long time, but it started being a resource hog, and caused my machine to slow waaaay down. I switched to safari, and all the problems stopped. It was like I had a new machine.

In my experience, FF doesn't run that well on macs without gobs of memory.

I have two gigs of ram and it still doesn't run that well...

I didn't really have any specific problems with Safari, but decided to try Camino out for a little while. That was about 4 months ago, and I haven't touched Safari since. :D

After seeing your reply I downloaded Camino. I am really impressed. I fear I may do as you and not look back, from Firefox that is.

I just miss the drop down history in the address bar.

Does anyone else find Firefox using an inordinate amount of cpu when displaying sites with flash content(mtv,nba.com,etc..)? On average it uses 3x the cpu use of Safari on the same web-pages!

Is this a problem with the flash plugin or with Firefox itself? I really want to try out Firefox, because I've heard many great things about it, but this isn't leaving a good first impression.

Eh the PPC Flash plugin, at least on my G5, leaks RAM like a sieve. Safari seems to hold it all in better, but if I sit on mlb.com or espn.go.com to watch live(ish) content I can see the RAM usage going up, and performance going down. Safari seems to reload the whole plugin where as Firefox just loads the content, so Safari holds on a little longer. 5.1 seems to work a little better, hopefully the UB runs even longer. Not entirely sure who would be at fault, Firefox for not loading the whole plugin, or Macromedia for being dorks.

for those using camino make sure to get CamiTools. It ads a lot of functionality to the browser.

well, yeah it's far better for mac users than windows users... in the same way safari's a bit useless for windows people

It's a good browser and I used to use it until Firefox became stable. I tried Camino recently and, despite having the same rendering engine, it had more problems than Firefox. It is really fast, though.

bluebomberman, possibly. Depends on the buildconfig and patches. Try for yourself, I'm too busy testing minefield.

I like all 3 (camino, safari, firefox), and I use 'em all just to change things up. Nice that firefox is now an option for intels.

Guess I should try them again. I used to have 3 on my Powerbook, but just started using Safari for everything. Yeah, its not as 'fast' or has as many whistles and bangs.... but I kinda like it.

Oh, that is after I removed the nastly brushed metal garbage. *uno baby*!

I know my big beef with Camino was lack of RSS News Feed support, and a few of the neat plugins to display weather, or FoxyTunes in Firefox.

Does Camino at least have RSS support now?

I love Camino, and it is faster, at least on my machine, that FF. But for some reason on several of the forums I visit, whenever I type a letter in a post box, the whole thing flashes...

VERY annoying.

I know the feeling, the extensions are the top reason for my using firefox. I have 17 currently. I've actually forgotten how many ads some websites have until I use another browser like safari or ie. Greasemonkey is one of my favs as a programmer. It gives me so much control over the sites I visit. Besides the slow startup I can't really complain much about firefox, and I usually have it running for days at a time so startup time isn't an issue. I've never noticed it causing lag issues on my iBook like others are mentioning. It's all about a person's need from their browser though, and I still occassionally take safari, camino, shiira, mozilla, and netscape for a ride time to time just to see how they are. The flashing ads usually get to me after a little while though and have to head back to firefox.

Same here. My G5 has 1.5 Gigs and it still doesn't out perform Safari. Firefox is a fat, CPU hogging pig in my opinion. I only use it when Safari doesn't open pages.
