A great browser for here forums. Sometimes I can't open pages in here using Safari.

I just miss the drop down history in the address bar.

You can open view -> customize toolbar and drag a "history" icon to the toolbar.

I have no idea. But try Vienna, a very nice stand-alone RSS reader.

My only gripe with Camino is the lack of RSS support, so I tried Vienna, but it seemed painfully slow and as much of a resourse hog as Safari was for me. I switched to Camino to get away from that. I found NewsFire was much better even if it costs $20. It has a trial, but I was so taken with the elegance and sheer Mac-centric look and feel that I bought it.

So I Have A Deer Park Application That Launches As FireFox For My Quad G5 that is different than the other builds for G4 and Intel? I don't understand. Can someone please explain this?

All Firefox builds from beatnikpad.com are called Deer Park because only official builds from Mozilla can legally use the Firefox name.

bluebomberman, possibly. Depends on the buildconfig and patches. Try for yourself, I'm too busy testing minefield.

howesey, I'm not going to bother because my G5 build from beatnikpad.com works great. It ain't broken, so...

My Favorite theme for Firefox

I usually don't like themes. But this one is really cool. It looks great in Windows and OS X. Its called iPox. Check it out.

For real.

You should.

flash plug in problems

How come when I go to CNN.com with the latest Firefox(intel mac) it's having a tough time with flash plug ins (with or without Rosetta)? Any idea anyone?

switcher point of view

I have switched to Macs for about a year now. I use both Firefox and Safari. However, I find firefox a bit slower. Is that a common problem. I have heard lots of great stuff about Firefox, but can't seem to get it. Maybe I need to download this new version?

the official UB firefox is faster than the beatnikpad build from a couple months ago.

still, camino is my preferred browser...with caminicon and camitools, i have about all the customization i need...i hate the un-mac-like feel of firefox. and i love camino's keychain support as well.

in any case, it's great that there are a number of alternatives...to each his/her own.

This is my feeling as well. I really like Safari, particularly as I bought Inquisitor for searching the web, but its become really unstable for me and seems crash at the drop of a hat these days (I don't know why). I'd like to like Firefox but I can't because it's not a real Mac application and doesn't support things like getting its network settings from System Preferences and Keychain for storing and (most importantly) backing up usernames/passwords. Given this I'm a Camino convert and have combined it with a license for NetNewsWire since, unfortunately, it still lacks an RSS reader. Apart from this the only fault with Camino that I have found so far is that I can't use Command-P to paste text into a Flash application; I need to use the contextual menu instead. This is a known fault that it looks like they'll sort out in Camino 1.1, so fingers crossed.

Apart from Camino I am still following the development of Flock. It suffers from the same problems as Firefox, plus a number of other issues, but its interesting to see where this application is going. The first beta release is scheduled for release next month, which is expected to add a lot more functionality and fix a lot of bugs from the current alpha releases. I know a lot of people in the Firefox community have complained about this browser but I'll support anything that helps make the web more 2-way while adhering to standards.

lmao that version number is almost as bad as ffmpegx being version 0.0.9t, which is only a thousand versions away from reaching version 1. :p
Good that firefox is universal though. :)

Huh. Well, blow me, Inquisitor is now available for Camino. Installed and it runs great.

Mozilla officially released an update to Firefox today that made it Universal. I downloaded it, but I fail to see a speed improvement of the browser. To be honest, I have never seen the benefit of Firefox. It has always seemed slow and bogged down in comparison to Safari, at least to me.

Never really understood what the big deal is. It doesn't load pages as quickly as Safari, and it takes for ever for it to launch.

The main reason I use Firefox are the extensions, especially tabbed browsing and all the possibilities to extend it. I am currently using a PC until the Macbook comes out, and since I found the extension IE tab, to open certain IE-only sites in IE built into firefox, I never use anything else

Was that an earlier version of Vienna, and did you remember to empty the trash every now and then? I run the latest version, and now it doesn't slow that much down once the trash fills up (and the developers have added an empty trash function). So now Vienna typically just uses 5-10% CPU while updating my ~20 subscriptions (less then 0.5% the rest of the time), and only uses ~30 MB RAM... not exactly a hog anymore... ;)

Already got its own thread. With a link to YouTube, where you can watch the ad without crashing Firefox in the process (again: Oh, the irony...)

I had a similar problem when I launched it the first time (after upgrading from the first UB beta). After I quit and re-opened it, it's running perfectly.

It's a good browser and I used to use it until Firefox became stable. I tried Camino recently and, despite having the same rendering engine, it had more problems than Firefox. It is really fast, though.
That's because some websites don't know about it and check for "Firefox" in the user agent string (instead of Gecko like they're supposed to), if you download CamiTools and set it to spoof the user agent as Firefox 1.5, all of those pages magically work correctly in Camino .

I've had CamiTools for a while but I'll switch the user agent and try it. Thanks.

Fire what??

I loved Safari when I was still on Windows.

Since I'm using Apple, I see no use for Fiefox. Half of the time it doens't work on the sites where Safari won't work

I think someone is confused here... I think it is:

I was really impressed by firefox initially, tons of plugins etc. But I kinda of agree it's not that fast, especially in mac and fedora. My farorite now is Opera, free and extremly fast.

This was just a month or so ago, so it looks like they came out with a new version April 8 making those changes. I really like NewsFire better and honestly think it is so elegant that it is worth the $20.

I did try the new Firefox with the Tab X and Sage add-ins and it seems better. I do like the way Sage integrates the RSS into a sidebar. It is also very easy to add feeds. All you do is visit a page with a feed and click "+". It is still not as refined as NewsFire, though.

I am trying the trial of Inquisitor right now and it keeps crashing Camino on me. I love the speed at which it finds pages - especially since my searches don't always need 6 pages of results. A lot of times a webpage we want is in the first 2-3 results and Inquisitor speeds up that process a lot, when it doesn't crash.

No, I think he was right. The only reason I use Firefox is for those sites (like some of my banking) where Safari won't work. Firefox often does. But if on his list of sites Firefox doesn't offer any additional compatibility, then it's useless. It's design, function and integration is still not up to par with Safari, so why bother.

On the Windows side Firefox had tabs and could block pop-ups. Safari does both better on the Mac side.

Firefox goes universal. Awesome.
I mean, it's great it's gone universal of course, but....
I don't care too much about the update for myself because I switched back to Safari as my default browser a few days ago. :D
