What do I have to set about tabs and firefox preferences? I also have tab mix plus running. So many options around, there should be a choice.

my guess is somewhere TMP suppress the default behavior of firefox, you might have to go through all the options in TMP.

strange, my firefox open them by default in new tabs of current window. you sure you correctly set it up in preference->tabs?

It is not the tab mix plus behaviour.
At this moment, I am sitting in front of pc and win-firefox, with no tab mix plus installed, and it does the same thing.
Where on firefox do I set this behaviour?
In preferences, tabs, I do not see such an option.
A about:config setting maybe?

lets first get the things clear up

what exactly are your operations? step by step please.:)

I have ff3 with 20 tabs opened.

Then I go to bookmarks. I go to a folder. I go down to 'open all in tabs' option.
I click on it.
The result: my old window with 20 tabs dissapear. The new tabs take their place.

I would like to see the new opened tabs, side by side with the old ones.

ok, I thought you were talking about there will be a new "window" open,

Still, on my MB, when I have more than one tabs open, and goto bookmarks, got a folder, click "open all in tabs", it will append to my existing tabs, not replacing them, EXCEPT the one active tab. i can simply double click tabbar and add a new tab before the operation to avoid the replacement.

there is one thing you can try in about:config

browser.tabs.loadFolderAndReplace

if not working.

Do a test if you will, by using a new profile, does the problem persist?

I set "browser.tabs.loadFolderAndReplace" to false and everything is ok now! :)

I have made so many changes in the firefox settings that I think it would be useful to copy all these settings somewhere for every bad occasion.

I read some texts in google.
~/Library/Mozilla/

~/Library/Application Support/

are the folders where firefox profile exists?

Manually copy these folders?

I found it strange that the dates of the files where very old(some years ago). Am I doing something wrong?

~/Library/Application Support/firefox

just backup that folder would be fine

I do not see the word 'firefox' anywhere there!
Application support folder, has only mozilla folder, which contains an 'extensions' folder.

I also look at users/myuser/library/ and there I can see once again a mozilla folder (not firefox) that contains:
- application registry
- pluginreg.dat
- profiles

Is this the folder that I should backup?

Why some users have 'firefox' folders while others have 'mozilla' folders?

I hereby nominate Clevin as the resident Firefox guru. This is not an insult. I'm amazed at your Firefox knowledge. Are you part of the Mozilla team?

Thank you :D

no, I am really just a super user rather than a coder. And Im not associated with mozilla foundation in any sense (God I hope they pay me...:) ).

Aren't gonna say firefox is best for everybody, because its not, but as a 3rd party app, playfield isn't level (except on linux when situation is just the opposite.....:) ). I just try to encourage people at least try it.

I am using ff3.
I notice that it does not copy text and images but only text. I select text & images to be copied. Edit, copy, paste on word, pages etc. Only text is pasted.
Am I wrong?

nothing wrong, the transfer from firefox to word will only be text and alt text of the image.

I though this is the same behavior as firefox 2?

I think this only happens to mac. The same actions in windows (copy from ff and paste to word) works fine.

This is not, strictly speaking, a problem but maybe people here can help (the local FF wizard?).

Is there a way to configure the url-bar so it won't search the bookmarks, just the url history (similar to the situation in FF2)?

i remembered discussing this somewhere at MR days ago. The current answer is no, you can't. you can shrink the size of the urlbar, but currently no clear way to remove its function....

I'm using Firefox 3b5, but whenever I restart the program, it doesn't reload my previous tabs like the recent versions of FF 2 do - is that still a bug?

Under Preferences -> Main, I *do* have it set:

When Firefox starts .... Show my windows and tabs from last time

I did re-enable Tab Mix Plus and my other extensions as well, but it wasn't working before that, either....

Is this working for anyone else?

Thanks,

-Bryan

WFM(=work for me). can you try disable your extensions first and see where the problem might be?

Hey Clevin... (I feel like I am writing to Dear Abby)

Just wondering if there is something I need to do about this:

Under Firefox 2 Hotmail will open in the full version
Under Firefox 3 it will only open in classic mode

I know I am probably the only one still using a Hotmail account for anything (not my main account I assure you), but still, it is really the only thing I use Firefox for because Hotmail (MS) hates Safari. I'd like to use FF3 but this is the only time I use it and it doesn't work.

Any ideas?
