The little time I've spent with Safari was quite pleasant, but I can't live without a few key extensions/addons that I use with Firefox. Same with Chrome, it could be the best browser on the market but the lack of Adblock Plus etc means no deal.

I like the new tab bar. FF3's tab bar is inefficient and single-threaded. If one tab crashed, entire browser crashes. Safari's tab is multi-threaded, one tab crashing will only crash one tab. Rest of the tabs are fully functional. You can turn it off with a few terminal commands though, just search the MacRumors forums.
thats a false statement, safari 4 is NOT multi-threaded, tab on top in the safari 4 is only a UI design, the browser is NOT multi-threaded. You can tell from looking at the activity monitor, the true multi-threaded browsers, such as chrome, or IE8, will spawn a new process each time it opens a new tab.

Multi-thread does have many advantages and I agree it will be the future, but currently the computer power is strong enough that the difference between single thread and multi-thread is not that great.

Multi-threaded browser naturally consumes more memory, so single thread has a small advantage in this department, however, safari is an exception, being a single thread browser, it consumes a lot of memory. Which should be taken care of by the developers, that is, if they care.

This is my very one, personal opinion:
To me, Firefox seems like a silly "plastic" browser; a bit slower than Safari (especially slower than Safari 4 Beta), and not nearly as gorgerious.

I wish I could be more deep and I say something a bit more descripeful, but nope: Safari is my browser, on every platform.

/Neykon

EDIT: I forgot to tell, that I hate the (bad words goes here) new tab-system on Safari 4 BETA - instead of clicking the tabs, I often drag the whole thing 'cause of I'm using a trackpad and not a regular mouse.
What have you done, Apple? :(

I've pretty much always used Firefox on my PC, so I also use it on all my Macs.

Actually, prior to FF 3, I used Safari. FF 2 for Mac was really terrible. I don't know what they did, but FF3 is a huge improvement, and much better then Safari in my opinion.

*gasp* Cassie has a pc???
I prefer FF myself. Using firefox 3.1 b3 with tracemonkey engine enabled. Just as fast as safari 4. But lately I have been using safari 4 allot. I just love the "top sites" feature.

I find myself using FF3.1beta more than Safari 4. I like Safari, but it beachballs way too often and I like the multitouch gestures in FF3.1 better. I was also going to mention the lack of adblock in Safari until I saw throttlemeister's post (thanks!). It wouldn't take much to tip the scales for me though. I find them equally "gorgerious." ;)

*this is opinion*

i hate firefox. it's slow to start up and not nearly as fast as Safari 4. Safari open's up after 1 bounce every time and firefox takes 3-5. also it takes forever for FF to load pages. i also love the Top Sites feature of Safari now. i use it as my homepage. Safari 4 has made me forget about Chrome. Safari is the best.

*remember this is my opinion*

also it takes forever for FF to load pages.
opinion aside, the fact of that description needs to be put in prospective, I encourage OP to try out both, since that "takes forever to load page" is probably not true to vast majority of users.
Safari 4 has made me forget about Chrome. Safari is the best.
you should at least give chrome a chance, why ditch it before it even comes out for mac? ;)

just download both. I've always loved Firefox and use it on my mac pro. However, on my macbook pro i use safari since multi-touch changes everything :D

With the new Firefox 3.1 Beta, firefox now has multi-touch gestures so I actually prefer firefox on my macbook pro now. Before multi-touch though, i liked safari.

haha true, but Safari 4 is just the best browser i have ever used. i will give Chrome a chance but the only way that i will switch is if it is a lot faster than Safari.

as far as FF goes i guess it doenst like me or something. i have a friend that loves it but on every computer i have used it on it has been slow. but you're right the OP should definitely try them both out.

i think camino kills firefox. but i like safari a lot.

whatever browser fluid uses absolutely sucks though

if you prefer to use MSN over other messengers (adium etc.) stick with FF. The new SF4 beta webkit causes problems with MSN on Leopard.

FF also reportedly has fewer problems with streaming video.

I use Firefox for one and only reason....

Adblock Plus, there is absolutely no better ad blocking ad on anywhere

How exactly does Adblock Plus work? I installed it yesterday, but I still get certain pop-ups. Is the idea to block those ads by yourself by inserting their URL into ABP, so that in the future you'll never get the same pop-up again?

adbock+ is for the ads within the webpage, such as the flash ads banner on top of this forum, adblock + will remove tjose.

pop up blocking is firefox's own build-in function, since firefox 2, mozilla improved pop-up blocking machanism such that "good" pop up will not be blocked. ideas being that sometimes pop ups are specifically requested by users, and looks better in a independent window. There will be hits and misses, but generally pretty accurate.

attached pic shows the difference with and without adblock+

I like Safari very much, but use FireFox for one simple feature: it saves text zoom level per web site.

On my MBP17", with resolution 1920x1200, DPI is way too high and surfing becomes very eye-straining with Safari. Pressing all the time Cmd-+/- is not an option too.

I have both, prefer Safari, just seems leaner and "snappier".

On the other hand, on my Linux machine I've been using something called Seamonkey. For speed, it will smoke FF or Safari.

I'm downloading the Mac version now, may be my browser of choice in the future.

let me know what you think of Seamonkey for os x. my dad loves it for his Linux Machine but im interested to see how well it runs on Leopard.

I use the Safari 4 public beta. I think it has crashed once. It is usually running 24/7. The only time I quit is when I have to restart for an update. Right now, I have six windows with a total of 16 tabs and it is running smooth as can be. It isn't, however, compatible, with every website. For those, I use Firefox.

Oh, and Safariblock is a great ad-on to block the flash advertisements.
