I appear to have a number of issues with my Phone pre and post 2.1 update

1- Post) had a few dropped calls, infact had one a second ago, where it dropped the call then made the camera shutter noise:confused: then tried calling back only to get a call failed message, only to reconnect of the fourth attempt

2- Pre & Post) I've always had probem's synching with my Mac (post and pre 2.1), always came up with the message "sync failed unknown error"(-50) in iTunes.

3- Pre & Post) keyboard on SMS is slow at times

4- Post) virtually every 20 min's or so, i am getting loss of signal message coming up, it cannot decide whether it wants to use 3g or Edge and swapping constantly and then decides there is no signal at all

4a- mainly Post) I almost have to force the phone to receive texts etc, while in standby it will seldom send a text through, but as soon as i start playing with the phone, a few texts will come through....not sure if this is as a result of the above though:confused:

5- Pre & Post) when viwing my photo's in Camera roll and the transition set to cube its very very jerky...not how i remember it to be on the showroom models

Hi All,

I seem to have found a small bug in the Calendar application that wasn't there pre 2.1.

If you create a new event/appointment you can pick all the usual details such as title, location, time , repeat etc. One of the details you can pick is the Calendar that the event/appointment is stored in.

However - if you then save the event/application and then go back and edit it - the calendar does not show - therefore you can't change it. This used to work previously.

This happens to me too. It seems that the phone freezes up sometimes until I wake it, then receiving the texts that I missed.

2.1 update issues

Phone seems to lock into EDGE and not into 3G signal. Some of my apps still crash when loaded or do not work either.

Battery life is better though I must say.

When connected to Griffin's Autopilot, my iphone can't play video anymore. I never had this problem before 2.1 update.

Version 2.1 fixed many issues. But it did not fix a vexing bug for those of us with smart playlists that use the "last played" or "play count" parameters. Ever since version 2.0, the iPhone has not reliably synced this information. Version 2.1 offers no help in this regard. With Apple's new Genius feature, I suspect Apple regards smart playlists and last played/play count metadata as niche features, and does not have this bug on its near-term agenda.

A number of discussions on Apple's site are devoted to this bug. I'm surprised no one at Mac Rumors has mentioned it yet. I take no joy in being the first to report this issue here.

Could you describe that bug a little more? Is the last played based on what you played on the iPod or on iTunes? Does it ever work as you planned, or only occasionally?

iTunes works fine. As far as I know, iPods work fine. This bug exists in the iPod application on the iPhone and iPhone 3G running 2.0 or later, including 2.1.

For example, my main playlist has two rules -- (1) songs rated 4 or 5 stars that (2) I haven't played in 90+ days. After listening to this playlist and syncing, the plays don't sync from the iPhone back to iTunes. In other words, the play count does not increase, and, more importantly, the "last played" date does not change.

Because the last played date does not change, the smart playlist remains the same as if I had never listened to those songs, thus defeating the whole point of the playlist -- fresh music.

Since I don't work for Apple, my testing is not complete. Thus far, it seems like this bug is isolated to smart playlists -- but not just those that use the last played parameter -- ALL smart playlists.

I've heard about a workaround that I have yet to test. After you create a smart playlist, create a regular playlist and then drag the songs from the smart playlist into the regular playlist. On your iPhone, play the regular playlist. When you sync, the plays and last played date apparently transfer. I plan to try this workaround next weekend.

If anyone else has thoughts on this issue, I'd love to hear from you.

if you have your iPhone set to only sync new podcasts, some of the already played podcasts will be marked new again, and thus synced back to the iPhone. It doesn't happen all the time, not sure what triggers it.

I forgot about this, but come to think of it, this has happened to me too. But now I don't remember whether I first noticed it before or after the 2.1 update. Hmm...

Also, has anyone had an issue with Genius playlists? Just a few minutes ago, my iPod stopped playing in the middle of a Genius playlist, and I could not get it to play again, even though I kept pressing play and it seemed to register that I was pressing it. The only thing I could do in the end was create a new Genuis playlist.

SMS Lag is still there. Keyboard lag is still there, but not as bad. Contacts lag seems to have improved. Everything else works much better though. I am quite impressed.

Well I don't know if it's only TODAY but at work I only get EDGE after the last night update to 2.1

No more 3G icon :(

Podcasts

Podcasts no longer stop after play is complete. When a podcast finishes playing it goes right on to the next one. If there is only one, it plays it over again. I can't find a setting to force it to stop after playing, and this is a new behavior in 2.1.

not sure if this is a problem for everyone under 2.1, but my podcast and audiobook thumbnails are very pixelated. Not sure why this is happening. It did not happen in 2.0.2

On 2.01 and 2.0.2, I never encountered a Safari crash. I don't use Safari all that much, maybe 10 minutes at a time, three times a day. Since 2.1, it has crashed several times (more than 5).

One Safari crash was actually the entire OS crashing. Screen went fuzzy and then rebooted itself. This also happened while responding to an email this morning.

iTunes and AM/PM Bug

I've noticed two things:

1. Syncing songs purchased from the iTunes Store (DRM) copy over to the phone, but do not appear in the iPod app (and are therefore not playable);

2. If using UK version, and AM/PM in the Time Format - you get a double AM/PM in the Mail App against the time the Mail arrived - also the same at the bottom of the mail screen in the time and date fields of the "last updated" footer.

  • Exchange no longer syncs via fetch
  • Jumping between E and 3G when I have a strong 3G signal
  • Calls never making it though because of lost signal (use to work)

Youtube

every video on Youtube on WIFI takes so long.. (since i bought the thing, 2.0.1+)

I have this same issue. It seems to happen with high quality (hence larger video files) on wifi. It seems like it doesn't buffer enough of the video so it barely plays.

I've also noticed with 2.1 that websites are loading slower on wifi and edge ((can't say much for 3g cause I live in an area without it).

Links for apps that would auto open the App Store don't seem to work with 2.1. I've tested this on several phones and all the phones updated 2.1 couldn't open the links

Finally, sending emails has difficulty much like the SMS lag mentioned in previous posts. When sending it will just hang with the sending progress bar for 5+ minutes even on wifi.

I'm not liking 2.x firmwares at all. I miss 1.1.1 on my first gen iPhone.

Grrrrr

Apps STILL crash, and Safari STILL crashes. One bug I've found: When I install or update any apps, I can't view the contents of the app store, at all. Is anyone else having this problem? Any fixes? Is Apple saying that v. 2.1 will fix app crashes completley? I'm so sad about this whole 3G fiasco...I really, really LOVED my 1st gen Iphone. :(

Wanna love my 2nd gen...........

Thanks! Kurt:rolleyes:

I don't get any signal in my house anymore where I used to have a lot on edge. All I get is the No Service ICON uggh. I used to be able to text when I had 1 bar on edge now I get an error message saying I cant send this message. I am really unhappy with this update!

Yep is faster downloading/installing the app, but turns out that the app store gets non responsive meanwhile.

a solution?
i would like to see Apple throwing away such lame way of installing an app, cause you have to reopening the app store to continue installing apps... its...i don't even see whats behind the thing of returning to the home screen to complete the instalation, that thing is beauty to show off in a keynote, not when you're installing more than an app.
