With you on the notch but these phones are heavy enough as it is. Any more heft and It'll need to come with wheels.

The only logical next move is using Titanium instead of Stainless Steel to mitigate that. Really hoping that happens sooner rather than later.

Or even just aluminium alloy again, to be hones, but of course that then comes with bending and chipping implications. Titanium would be pretty smart but you can bet 10 cents Apple would price such a device as if it were hewn from a single billet of unobtainium ?

Yeah I think after the issues with aluminium alloy in the past, we're definitely at a point of no return.

I'm with you though, definitely shudder to think what the pricing will be like for the Titanium models, because Apple is gonna make it the most elaborate, refined version that it can be. hopefully the inherent economies of scale that exist with the iPhone take away some of that sting.

I’m so confused by this - neither the center of the pill nor the center of the entire ‘notch + pill’ are centered on the phone? It looks completely off balance.

I’ve never really been against the notch and I don’t see the point of switching to this. I wouldn’t mind a single long pill, but this is just… no.

I think it's odd to keep the same processor on non-pro models. It would be basically the contrary of iPhone SE, keeping the internals and just upgrading the exterior and cameras.

Most likely a result of supply issues. There are not enough A16 in production to meet demand so Apple has to do something. The option would be to just skip the iPhone this year which of course would make stakeholders go all bananas. Going with A16 on both and have nowhere close to high enough production to meet demand would also be bad.

Going from a notch to Pill-Shaped and Circular Cutouts doesn't make any difference. Apple would still have to keep the top portion of the screen a dedicated area for status symbols. If they try to make the entire screen usable this approach will be more annoying compared to the notch as I would start having actual content getting obscured by the cutouts.

The notch might no look sexy, but it's functional as it doesn't take away screen relaste that is being used for anything. It gives you a dedicated area for status symbols and a black bar at the top. Trying to have huge cutouts and actual content on the screen that gets obscured by the cutouts sounds much worse.

I'm late to the party, but I'm going to say it anyway.

If this is what Apple does with the notch and you prefer the old notch...

Use a wallpaper with a notch. Or in the least, one that fills in the gap.

And that, folks, is why I make the big bucks. /s

Doesn't really fix anything other than how your wallpaper looks? If Apple removes the notch and replace it with cutouts and make the actual screen area available for apps your wallpaper won't do anything with apps having actual content being obscured by the cutouts.

The reason why the notch works is because the space is not useable by apps unless you take a full-screen video and allows it to expand into it. Otherwise you always have dedicated status symbols and the notch at the top of your screen, normally with a black background to make the notch not stand out.

Apple can do this in two ways. Keep the same system around, making the top portion be unavailable for apps like today so the cutouts will simply replace the notch, but the area is still dedicated to status symbols. This would render the change meaningless, at that point why not just keep the notch.

Or they can remove this limit making the top area available for apps. But the cutouts look far too big for that to make any sense. It will obscure what ever is showing at the top so I see no real value in it. Sounds like it will only make it all more irritating in use.

I'm liking the cutout. It's preferable to a notch and marketable.

It's just the pity the other rumours (i.e. the flush camera bump and round buttons) were false. It seems the iPhone upgrades and getting more and more incremental.

I also fail to see the selling point of the vanilla iPhone 14 model if it has the same old notch, 60hz display and last year's processor. Let's hope these rumours are off the mark.

Heh, the bump is probably the one single thing that I wholeheartedly hate about my iPhone, even after all these years. Makes it all wiggly when placed screen up and I just can't... won't bring myself to put a cover on it.
But it's not much of an issue when iPhone is in a case as mine is constantly. Still I read somewhere (maybe on MacRumors) that future iPhone may be a little thicker to make the cameras flush with the back.

Exactly, and it's remarkable to me how many people don't seem to understand this. If you can't use the 'additional' screen real estate for anything, all they're actually doing is using more battery power to illuminate useless pixels.

Longtime iPhone user here. Even so, the only thing that still excites me about new iPhone releases is improvements in photo and video. The rest - yawn

I don’t think the aspect ratio is correct. I did a quick overlay on the 6.1“ 13 pro from apples website, and they don’t match. 91mobiles image seems too short. Am I missing something?

No problem with the pill, no problem with the notch, but I’m genuinely disappointed that the cameras seemingly won’t be flush.
I’m 100% with you on that. Notch or pill+hole? Frankly I’m not too fussed either way but the huge camera bump on my 13 Pro Max is ugly and annoying. I was really excited about the Prosser rumour that the camera would be flush in case it turned out to be true (Prosser’s rumours aren’t always reliable to say the least). Admittedly we now have competing claims so Prosser might yet be correct. If he is though then the only way I see it happening is the phone getting thicker. If that gives space for a bigger battery that would be another huge bonus for me but the potential big issue would be could Apple stop the Pros getting even heavier than they already are? Hence all the discussion of Titanium etc. I suppose. I would definitely pay a 10% price premium over and above the current 13 Pro Max price if it had a flush back and a much bigger battery but still coming in at about the same weight but maybe I’m an outlier on that one.
