well it definitely looks ugly, the upper cut really apple you are not like this
why don`t you approach like this concept image, it could really save your day, just my thinking

Not enough room for the image sensor in that mockup. Looks nice but not feasible with current technology. Even the S8 has a decent size bar up top to allow for the sensors. If this mockup for the iPhone is real, it makes sense so Apple can differentiate themselves and not look like a Samsung clone.

so i just signed up just to post this....

Does anyone here actually believe that it will be called the iPhone 8?
i cringe every time its refereed to as that.

We we get the 7s and 7s plus and the new iPhone that could be called the following

iPhone
iPhone Edition
iPhone Pro
ect....

in my mind there is no way its called the 8... the 8 will come in 2018....

I agree, I too have thought all along that you cannot reasonably release a 7 edition of something, and the next series at the same time. Doesn't really make any sense. But Apple has made some questionable choices lately IMO so I wasn't putting it past them...iPhone Pro probably makes more sense. Maybe that will be the only model to ever have an OLED screen? They can keep the iPhone 8 sizes and always have this iPhone pro or something as well. Maybe they want more diversity yet again? I don't know if that makes sense either. But if the 8 copies this design for whatever they're releasing next year, that also doesn't make sense because then you'd have three models all looking the same.

i guess your right also in asking the question what happens next year.
i would think the new design would go into the 2 base models (8 and 8 plus)?
But then yeah what happens to the "pro" model of this year...

Sure does, but that's how it is. 5.8" display, but only 5.15" or something will be screen real estate. The rest is the touch area below including the virtual home button.

Idk about the energy required to power that area, like I said I'm assuming it will always be on, but it's possible it won't be. I just can't see them completely doing away with it, especially since they're rumored to include the virtual home button. My guess is it'll be very difficult to get used to if they just ditch the button altogether. They likely will keep an always on vertical home button. Just my assumption though.

you're saying it's a 5.15" screen with a fixed bottom? isn't that just a home button that's stretched to left and right sides?

You force touch the bottom area, just like how it works on the Galaxy S8.

that sucks. i hate the on screen home button.

In line with Occum's Razor, there will be just one main phone (2 sizes maybe) to take over the 7/7+. The other if any is just a much cheaper repackaged 6s (or 6).

same as sammy so what does that tell ypu
That a homebutton is always on the same place, it is a bit awkward to place it on the left top if the phone, isn' t it?
So now samsung also invented the place of the homebutton? Quite the innovators, aren' t they?
Place of the homebutton is not derermined by software alone, also the placement of the haptic/taptic engine has a part in that.
I don' t like the simulated feel of the homebutton of the s8 though. A bit too weak.

I wonder what samsung could have done to make that feel more realistic and get rid of the lower bezel.

Eeehm: removing the headphone jack?

And that is the difference between apple and samsung. Apple planned this all along, and now have more space available in the phone to make that possible.

Yeah, so the entire face will be one piece of glass/display, but the bottom part will be software limited to only have (likely) a constant home button there. This would be used to go home if it's always present. It wouldn't be stretched like you said, it may be a stand alone button in the middle, or maybe they'll have a back, or quick buttons for recent apps to the left and right of it or something. Check out the video below, look at 0:29-0:39. That's what we're expecting, except I think it would be sectioned off, whereas here it doesn't have any break (software) to show one area vs. another.

What the hell does that even mean!
[doublepost=1497552131][/doublepost]
from a design standpoint that thing looks ugly as hell, the front is asymmetric which is totally unapple like and the back looks like its Chinese knockoff of the iPhone 7. I waited 4 years for this and now it looks like ill be looking to what google brings with its next pixel phone.

Right... Like I really believe you, you were really going to buy the next Iphone.... Sure sell it to someone else.

iPhone 8 looks like is gonna a be wider like the 7+ it was supposed to be only a bit taller than the 7. I'm tired of this plus phone specially cuz is too wide for my hands I may actually get the 7s just cuz it's 4.7

It is gonna be a little wider than the 7/s.
But definately a lot less wide than the 7 plus.

Apple could put one of those cutouts on the top, bottom, left and right of the display and I would still choose it over *any Android device because at the end of the day iOS > Android.

if it's a button that's ALWAYS there, then why make it an on screen button? for aesthetics? not only do you use more power to power something that's always there, but you also lose the tactile feel of the home button. the only logical reason would be to add dynamic buttons to the left and right of the home button.

if it's not always there, then how do you make it appear in those situations? the home button needs to be reliable and always quick to access when you most need it. making it disappear while doing landscape or fullscreen apps/games seems like it'll be annoying to get back home.

Yeah I assume for that reason it will be always on. I agree it does not seem like it will vastly improve the experience just with the button being replaced by on screen, but it will complete the experience. Haptic feedback engine, 3D touch, touch ID, all takes place on the screen, all sensations of a regular button remain, but is now future tech. If they add more features than just the button in that area, it will certainly be worth it.

samsung is making 70 percent of the phone

Right.... The screen, that's it. Go back in your cave now.

BTW, They designed the screen (and not even the whole screen the digitizer, and touch detection depends on something else), nothing else TSMC is fabbing the chip, so WTH are you even talking about.

You do know the diff between manufacturing and design huh.
