Virtual button on the bottom of the screen similar to the galaxy s8
Software button I'd assume. Similar to S8.
The entire bottom section of the display with be a persistent function row. Home button, plus adaptable controls.
Virtual home button in the UI? Android devices have been doing it for years.
With Apple's planned obsolesce, you buy a new iPhone every time you need to access the home screen.

Either that or it will have a software home button or home gesture.
that's terrible. if you persist the home button on screen the entire time, you're wasting battery to power a home button and wasting precious real estate on the screen that can be used for your content instead.
doesnt make sense.

You must be new around here. Pls refer back to any iPhone 8 rumour of past 6 months:D
any? there was a rumor with the home button on the back. this rumor kills that rumor. so immediately it contradicts your statement.

question is how do you go home on this thing?
Based on patents filed by Apple and other rumors, I expect the bottom part of the screen will be similar to what Androids do with the back button and home button.

An app wouldn't normally fill the entire screen, but would instead have a thin bottom border where a virtual home button and other controls/info might appear. There would be haptic feedback for the button presses like on the iPhone 7.

I would also expect that apps could override this area if they provide a clear and simple means of exiting the app or returning to a mode where the home button is visible.

Apple also has a patent on technology for reading fingerprints through the screen, so they would overlay an image of a fingerprint in the bottom center of the screen when the fingerprint reader is active.

Doesn't matter what the back looks like. I will be buying and sticking it into a case. I like the look of the front. Just my opinion.

Front camera and earpiece cutout from display looks ugly, seems more likely fake  no way apple will make that ugly spot.

That protruding vertical camera cutout looks inspired from traffic light signal :D Hell No!!

I'll remind you of this comment when you spend $1000 on the new iphone that looks exactly like this.

Have any other companies done a dual-camera orientation like this?

I want to see if Apple "copied" anyone... or if "this is the way the industry was moving anyway"

:D

that's going to be a bit finnicky. like if i'm watching a video in landscape, i'm imagining the home button will be hidden. if that's the case, it'll be very annoying to do a few steps before i can get the home button back.

maybe make tapping the front camera the home button. dunno.

Bottom area is likely always going to be occupied by a virtual home button. Possibly it will be replaced with other buttons when in video, but I doubt it.

This may also solve the issue with black bars in full screen video like the S8 experiences.

That's not flush bro
[doublepost=1497310288][/doublepost]It appears the black part of the camera piece is the only part that sits into the hole on the back shell. Which means the entire depth of the metal camera module surrounding, equates to ugly camera bump goodness :p

Disagree - the black part is the same colour as the back so It slots in from behind and therefore flush Brah.

Vertical camera does make some sense for binocular imaging, as long as you're in landscape that is.

Actually doesn't work like that - 1 lens is far focused and one close. With multiple photos taken and a depth map and some software skillsZ. Will work vertical or horizontal.

Not far enough apart for traditional binocular vision.

I think we're misunderstanding each other. I agree the black part slots in to the glass piece, however the metal remains not flush.

that kind of negates the need to remove a physical home button if that space is always occupied by a home button since you'll need energy to power that space.

perhaps a "3d touch" on the bottom bezel or status bar might be the best option

Looks excellent if the leak is real. I suspect the camera/flash hump/bump will go away and this isn't definitive.

Sure does, but that's how it is. 5.8" display, but only 5.15" or something will be screen real estate. The rest is the touch area below including the virtual home button.

Idk about the energy required to power that area, like I said I'm assuming it will always be on, but it's possible it won't be. I just can't see them completely doing away with it, especially since they're rumored to include the virtual home button. My guess is it'll be very difficult to get used to if they just ditch the button altogether. They likely will keep an always on vertical home button. Just my assumption though.

well it definitely looks ugly, the upper cut really apple you are not like this
why don`t you approach like this concept image, it could really save your day, just my thinking

So, here's my question. I've been seeing the whole iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, and iPhone 8 to all be released together hype... but why would Apple do something like that? If the iPhone 8 is actually as incredible as it's rumored to be, then why would anyone buy an iPhone 7s or iPhone 7s Plus? Even if the iPhone 8 is as much as everyone believes, folks are probably still going to order it. If you have your phone on one of the million installment plans, it's not going to be that much more per month. It just seems like this is setting up the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus for very low sales numbers. Seems like a waste...

That's what I'm thinking as well.
If the price difference between 7s and 8 is huge it makes sense to buy the 7s. But imagine a lineup where you have 7s, 7s+ for $100 more and 8 for another $100. Who is going to buy the 7s+ to save $100 and get a bigger phone with roughly the same display size?
Either the price difference will be higher, say $200 or more, or they'd better pack the 7s with a lot of new features

Maybe, apple will put a plastic case on the 7 and call it 7E and sell it at $599 and then price the 8 at $999.

A row of always-on virtual buttons would be neat.

Pre-iPhone, it was common to have extra buttons for app specific / user definable tasks.

Apple also has a patent on technology for reading fingerprints through the screen, so they would overlay an image of a fingerprint in the bottom center of the screen when the fingerprint reader is active.

If they implement interleaved IR sensors across the entire display, then they wouldn't even need to show a "reader" image. They could just automatically read whatever finger(s) are already on the screen. True, if you weren't touching, then yeah they'd need a visual prompt to do so :)

Looks great. My original thought was that i i wished it had the curved screen of the S8 to look like there is no side bezel, but I always use a case of some sort so the point is moot.
I look forward to the fall and all it has to offer.

from a design standpoint that thing looks ugly as hell, the front is asymmetric which is totally unapple like and the back looks like its Chinese knockoff of the iPhone 7. I waited 4 years for this and now it looks like ill be looking to what google brings with its next pixel phone.
