Front camera and earpiece cutout from display looks ugly, seems more likely fake  no way apple will make that ugly spot.

That protruding vertical camera cutout looks inspired from traffic light signal :D Hell No!!

Many people have said that about the protruding camera. And don't forget the case with the battery pack. So anything is possible.

That can't be normal, can it?

I want to see the list of side-effects for using Samsung phones:

"May cause eyes to sting"

:D
Definitely not normal but apparently not uncommon. Yikes. It is not a good feeling. It's very hard to describe--kind of like my eyes feel when I'm sitting out in sunlight and the sun is shining into my eyes from the side, a bit of a burning stinging sensation. It does take a few minutes to wear off. It's enough to have made me shy away from the feature despite having gotten assurances from other forum members that the light used was safe.

The vertical camera now makes sense to me. If they want to make the screen go all the way UP top you need the rear camera vertical to fit screen behind. Screen and two camera is too thick for horizontal. This makes me think this is super legit.

We also heard rumours of BLACK only and having the cut at the top makes me think a white version would be too UGLY to do.

The only thing I REALLY REALLY HATE is the aspect ratio! It's just wrong and way too tall. It should be 16:9 between top of camera bump and the bottom though I suspect apple will pillar box video to avoid it getting cut off at the corners on the bottom and that might actually maintain 16:9. Not ideal IMHO the S8 with bezel top and bottom gives a better design aesthetic and balance but they still F'd up with the silly tall aspect ratios.

I suspect the aspect ratios will only be wrong for one generation of phones as it should be the biggest complaint. Everyone watches videos on their phones as number 1 content it should not be cut off or pillarboxed in anyway! I hope they learn.

If the phone is on a flat surface, then you probably need to unlock the phone, for which there would be the sensor in the screen on the front.

No, the point was if you use the phone when its flat on a table - for example - its already unlocked and you're using it then - with what you said - you'd need to pick the phone up to unlock it using the rear. That was my point.

Eh, I'm not crazy about the camera design - looks a little wonky to me. Everything else I'm seeing I like though.

But I'm not going to beat around the bush, I'm still gonna buy this thing.

I'm pretty sure the camera cutout on the front will feature the reception strength and battery % either side on a black background so won't look as if it's cut out from the screen, but save wasting extra screen real-estate for a camera section above (as it is on current models with large bezels). The layout on the rear camera looks odd vertically but makes more sense using the camera to take pics in landscape, which would be more common than portrait in theory...

Do you have any links to mockups of this? Or discussion threads? I seem to have missed them. All the photos show the heinous cutout.

I saw a mockup of the status bar being all black. Don't have the source. It would make a ton of sense if they went this route. Can't see Apple did no it any other way.

Yep that would be me. I complained endlessly about the missing headphone jack and joked about the resemblance of the iPhone 7 Plus to Bender the Robot from Futurama. Guess what I'm typing this post on! :D

I think the leaks and mock ups look very encouraging. I think IPhone 8 is going to be really cool. Maybe it will turn out a bit quirky looking, but definitely cool (according to my tastes of course--I don't presume to speak for others). Unfortunately I won't be getting one, but I will envy those who do. It's just not in the 2017 budget and would probably be a massive pain to get a hold of in 2017 anyway. I shall enjoy spending time with them at the Apple Store and Best Buy.

Lol see! Prime example. And obviously it's impossible to track everyone. So maybe there are people who despise the leaks and really don't get the phone when it goes on sale, but there's a lot of people that do.

You say it's not in the budget now, butttt let's see if you come into some money. Maybe you'll get a bonus from work, sell something, cut an expense etc.

Launch is a few months away and you could finance the phone and just sell your current one online.

It really shouldn't be that much of a task for you to get aside from demand outweighing supply.

Maybe. I can't rule anything out. My next planned phone purchase was going to be a Note 8. I really enjoy and get a lot out of running an iOS phone and an Android phone concurrently.

But we had to shell out thousands unexpectedly to a nephew recently when he and his wife lost their home. We are in the midst of home renovations and repairs ourselves with one huge expense arising unexpectedly. And I really do need to update my desktop computer. I want to edit my 4k videos but my laptop and my desktop are both several years old.

My iPhone 7 Plus was a wonderful Christmas surprise. And I was incredibly fortunate to be able to buy an S8+ when they debuted. I feel I need to take stock of all that's going on around me and perhaps put the brakes on my smartphone acquisitiveness and appreciate what I have a bit longer. It's a harmless hobby to get the latest and greatest iPhone when nothing else needs attention. It's a bit of a mental problem if you do it at the expense of other priorities. :p. I'm not sure I have anything I could sell that would help offset the cost of a new iPhone sufficiently this year. But happy budget surprises have happened to us as well as bad ones before, so I won't rule anything out.

I have discovered I do get as much entertainment and joy from reading of my forum friends' adventures with their phones and computers, so it actually isn't so bad living vicariously through the forum for awhile if it comes to that. It's actually quite fun.

Possible major problem, thought it's unclear with these images. Samsung's S7/S8 infrared iris scanner looks like it can cause permanent eye damage with continued or incorrect use:

Anybody know, at this point, if that's a confirmed feature on the 8?!

It's the Daily Mail though. A ridiculous scaremongering trashy rag in the guise of a proper newspaper. Be careful with believing anything you read in it.

I think it's pretty obvious that the screen either side of the cut out will feature the top icons, perhaps redisgned a little, on a black background. Then for symmetry's sake, the same amount of space at the bottom will be a black strip containing a similar functionality to the MacBook Pro touch bar, and Touch ID.

looks quite decent IMHO...but I would had loved the iPhone having a curved display like S8. And this still being quite an early leak...I am still secretly hoping that the final thing will have curved display.

Having said that I have owned every iPhone till date and will buy this one too :D

Camera bump is atrocious. Their hard-on for all things and design 'thin' has entirely ruined the aesthetic from the 4/5 iPhone days. Remember the flush camera, how nicely it looked against the back? How you could sit your phone down flat, without having it rest on one of the most important, breakable parts of your phone?

I really don't get the thinking behind the super sleek device with the huge bump in the back. The S8 looks gross from the back and it's the only reason I haven't thought of getting one...

The camera bump I agree is terrible BUT makes sense. They probably did a study and realized that most people use cases and a case thickness pretty much makes the bump a non issue.

This! There will definitely be a segregated section on screen for the top part where the ear piece and front camera protrudes.

What I expect Apple to do is actually make the status bar black.. with OLED screens. The black can screen can actually make that section look like one piece.. doing so.. Apple can simply change the color of the bars and pictures to white... making it look seemless.

But another thing I see them doing is removing the battery indicator from the top to create space for other icons. Or making it customizable. Either or. But removing the battery gives them more space at the top for other icons.

Also.. for touching the time at the top to go back up. I think you will still be able to touch that area and still go backup like normal.

So, here's my question. I've been seeing the whole iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus, and iPhone 8 to all be released together hype... but why would Apple do something like that? If the iPhone 8 is actually as incredible as it's rumored to be, then why would anyone buy an iPhone 7s or iPhone 7s Plus? Even if the iPhone 8 is as much as everyone believes, folks are probably still going to order it. If you have your phone on one of the million installment plans, it's not going to be that much more per month. It just seems like this is setting up the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus for very low sales numbers. Seems like a waste...

Sort of how I imagined it too, they'd probably mirror the top bar at the bottom (not sure what they'd do there exactly but probably more status icons/dock or something to keep symmetry. I also added a virtual home button because of how iconic it is to the iPhone, not sure they'd lose it completely...

I like the mockup.. I think it'll be similar to that except the battery icon.. to save space at the top.. the battery icon may be similar to how it is on the Apple Watch. With a circle showing the percentage in the middle
[doublepost=1497368237][/doublepost]I can also see Apple no longer showing the carrier name at the top. And just showing the signal bars. With LTE or wifi.

So its smaller than the 7 plus but longer than the 7 with a full screen display?. I would be ok with that.
