Hyundai Ioniq EV? Hyundai Kona / Kia Niro EV? Is there something wrong with their reliability compared to, say, Tesla?
Those vehicles haven’t been in production long enough for anyone to know if important components will last 10-15 years as they should in 2021. I wouldn’t buy one.

People not knowing how to drive is the wave of the future. Give it 20 years and 1/3 of the people that buy cars today will not be buying cars. If a robotaxi can get you there for the price of a latte, why bother owning a car and paying to insure, repair, and house it.
Not sure on the timing, but I completely agree. Aside from the few people who cars are their hobby, a car is such a massive waste of money. Constantly going down in value, constant money being pumped into it via consumables, insurance, etc.... and for 95% of the population it sits unused 85% of the time. Its crazy!!!

Reinforces my belief all-along that Apple wouldn't try to sell a Kia-based car to the General Public, & that it would be intended for some captive market.
That's like saying that Apple would never sell a FoxConn phone to consumers. Kia would only serve as manufacturer.

The future is here, Jony lives on!🤣

Will Apple slow it down after the first year to 'protect the battery' ?
You joke but Tesla (and all hybrids for that matter) already do this (throttle) during charging and driving to preserve overall battery life. And yes there will be class action lawsuits in 2026 by people who cannot accept being kept in the dark about a technical subject they cannot possibly begin to understand.

Imo focusing on autonomous driving over EV tech is a mistake. Autonomous driving has so many problems outside of whether or not the technology even works.

Given this news about it being a robotaxi, the Hyundai-Kia partnership makes more sense. Quality doesn't need to be top notch, but price will.
I'm trying to think of an Apple product where quality doesn't need to be top notch. I got nothin'.

Yep. They will be like horses. Something you might ride/drive for fun, but not something most people own.

Last time I checked out a Kia‘s infotainment system it was rather buggy when connecting a phone. Maybe this partnership will improve that.

I am very skeptical.

BUT, as someone who cannot drive, this would give me so much freedom and independence that I lack right now.
What are you skeptical about? Seriously. Apple may not be perfect, but I don’t understand how their cash on hand, resources and influence can make you skeptical....

SAE level 5? Not a chance. Their current system can best be described as level 2.5.
what is 2.5? there's only level 2, and level 3. there is no such thing as 2.5.

it can drive from LA to north cal with zero interventions minus dealing with the supercharger

no car will be able to do proper SAE level 5 for at least 10 years since that definition suggests a car should be able to drive off road/drive in malls/drive in caves/etc...those roads aren't a priority and won't be trained for for a while.

level 5 in terms of leaving personal garage by itself -> pick you up at the airport -> you fall asleep in the car -> car drives itself back home is totally doable by next year with current Tesla fleet (pending regulations).

So either it will be released 2050 or this rumor is just that and nothing resembling reality.

Ever try to use Siri and she responds like a senile old grandmother not having a clue what you just said? I have, its embarassing. I tell her: Take yours meds and go back to sleep grandma! My kids get a kick out of it.

Nope. Leave that to GM. Please bring in your Chevy Bolt to have us disable 10% of its range. It will “fix” the little issue of it potentially catching on fire even though we don’t have an actual fix yet. /s
