No different than AirDrop. Opt in.Seems like a wild privacy violation.
I mean, the quest 2 has horrible pass through and I can walk around with itKnowing Apple, I bet they could potentially help you in some ways I can't think about right now. Think "A.I.-powered artificial eyesight", I'm just not sure how information could be given to you apart from audio feedback and voice messages.
Hopefully they're talking about actual see-through 4K displays, otherwise the potential lag between what you see and what's happening could be disorienting/nauseating, even if you're not aware of it. It could be okay for something like a headset that you're not supposed to wear and walk around with all day long, but for the future Apple glasses that's going to be pretty much a requirement.
Yeah, I think your missing the big picture. If I'm not able to see through the screen without the use of a camera, then this kind of AR is not for me.
If it was opt-in, I can't see that many people using it. This feels like one of those features that sounds really useful until you think about how it would actually work and then it just falls apart. No different than AirDrop. Opt in.
Is there even a big demand for it? Who said it’s coming to replace the iPhone 😂
This thing will be groundbreaking.
4K pass through. You won’t be looking at the world with your eyes anymore, instead you’ll be viewing them through a a camera with augmented reality layer!
That'll be series 3, just like Apple Watch.if they add phone capabilities to this it will kill the iPhone and might be the hottest thing to buy.
I'm someone who is rather bullish on VR. I don't see it replacing smartphones. If anything, it is more likely to replace laptops/tablets for many users.I know I'll be downvoted by true believers of AR/VR but this is one area that has been investigated at one form or another for 40 years and it still hasn't fulfilled the exuberant promises proponents make.
The mixed reality one is the only one i see with any kind of consumer support. The Glasses, if they ever come to market will go the way of Google Glass.Apple fan or not, it will be very interesting to see how Apple plans to deliver this thing. The Apple glasses will no doubt be a hit but this mixed reality headset sounds like a tougher sale…
Gaming, media and communication sounds great in theory but let’s face it, there are several high end VR headsets out there for under $1000 (this Apple headset is rumored to be $2000+) and they have a much better ecosystem. PS5 VR will no doubt be $500, the next VR headset from Meta will no doubt be under $1000.
If Apple plans to charge this much they will need to do something groundbreaking. I’m skeptical but definitely looking forward to it. Especially as a developer.
Edit: it will also be interesting to see what happens to the mixed reality headset when the more streamlined Apple Glasses come out. Will they be merged into a single product or will Apple try to support both separately? Interesting times ahead.
Well, most VR gaming today is done on ARM chips, so if anything, Apple's switch to their own silicon is a good thing. PC gaming has decades of momentum behind it. VR gaming, not so much.Focus on gaming? using an Apple silicon chip and not Intel which is where all the games are usually found.
HUH.
That’s not all it needed. It also needed Alexa instead of Siri. All it needed was the ability to function without a power cord like virtually every other bluetooth speaker on the market.
I’m thinking this would be one of the “legs” of a multi-pronged strategy — for example, gaming, video consumption, 3D modeling/planning, and communication. Most Apple devices appeal to multiple use cases, rather than relying on a single, stand alone one.And pay 2-3k for such a device???
Sure, there will be some but it is not a killer use case
It won't. These articles are mostly nonsense, and this one is particularly bad going by the summary. The one in the WSJ a day ago was, too.For those of us who don’t like voice control, nor want a vision-restricting gizmo strapped to our faces, how exactly will this replace the iPhone?
How does your headset deal with sweat when exercising? I've killed sweat and waterproof headphone while working out, I can only imagine that something like this would last a week tops before tapping out.Oculus rift 2 was the single best piece of hardware i have ever purchased, it is truly revolutionary what it can do to many categories like personal fitness, vr gaming, sports...that is despite the terrible low res graphics and processor, ****** games, and facebook's nonexistent ability to market. Supernature on oculus single handily changed forever how i workout, nothing else seemed to be worth it anymore, not in person training, not those crappy video based workouts (ironically including apple fitness). And the feeling when you look down and see your lightsaber goes up and darth vadar walk towards you is indescrible. Or as a table tennis player for 30+ years and have the headset able to replicate complex moves and serves almost 1:1 in vr.....
I can only imagine what apple is able to achieve releasing a similar vr set but with super beefed up hardware + graphic, billions of apple users and hundreds of thousands game developers already in the eco system ready to go.
if you haven't tried it, dont under estimate. If apple do it right, it will be a truly iPhone type event. Super excited for this.
