... The presence of magnets in the case does not necessarily mean Apple has built MagSafe into the foldable iPhone itself, and there has previously been speculation that the device could lack the feature. ...
I'm not measuring with calipers or anything... but to my eyes, those magnets appear to be off center by what looks like at least a couple of millimeters. With the extra weight that will be inherent to this device, this is likely to make magnetic mounting particularly unstable. I find myself wondering if those rumors about a missing MagSafe interface could be linked to Apple attempting to avoid exactly such issues.

... Each year is just a new brick with slightly better cameras and faster chip and that is about it.
The very first iPhone was a paradigm shift that shattered and reformed an entire industry... but it would be very easy to argue that your description readily applies to the entirety of smartphone history, after that first iPhone.

Apple better not **** this up.

If I'm buying a fold, it's because it's essentially the ultra iPhone with no compromise. Having one less camera seems like a compromise.
This seem unreasonable, if they made it twice as thick as the current pro you could keep all the features, people would complain about the thickness.

If they want to try and maintain the thickness when folded, each half must be basically half the existing thickness. If so some compromises will be required, the current lenses probably won’t fit. Even 2 off thin batteries will likely be less efficient than 1 thicker one so battery life won’t be as good.

I am not buying this case. I think it is too soon for case leaks. The leaks have been saying no MagSafe and Face ID, now this case has a MagSafe back. If it is July or August, then this leak would be legit.

I'm tempted by the Fold but only if there's a killer use case AND they somehow get around the fact there are only 2 lenses vs. the Pro's 3. For instance, maybe one of the lenses could 200mp which will allow a crop to negate the fact we don't have that third lens? Apple must have a plan around this, otherwise, it's hard to call it an Ultra while the Pro exists.

I'm at a point with these rumors, where I might not buy any iPhone in September. I currently own the iPhone Air. I am hearing that the iPhone Air is being pushed to spring. I not interested in the first gen iPhone Fold. I am hearing the iPad mini is getting refreshed. Maybe I'll buy an iPad mini with cellular and keep my iPhone Air till next year. Hopefully, in September everything is clear. I can buy the best option.

If people wanted compromise then they would have bought the Air... and that was essentially a flop. The fold could gain more attention being a different form factor, but people want the Apple's best phone... not just one with a bigger screen. Having the best cameras in the lineup is a big deal.

I disagree: the iPhone Air was not a flop -- it was a bridge. If Apple only wanted to make a thinner iPhone, they would have iterated on the Plus model, which was already their "light" device when compared to the Pro Max. Instead, they discontinued the Plus, so that they could justify making various changes (besides just going thinner) which would otherwise have been considered downgrades... like the removal of one of the cameras.

Apple needed to get some feel for what would be necessary to build their foldable, and how much "compromise" would be accepted by big spend customers. The Air delivered good research data on both of those fronts. In that sense, the Air was a perfectly cromulent success, even if it ends up being discontinued after its second iteration.

I just use a standard iPhone and iPad Pro together. Continuity makes them a pleasure to use. Why spend 100s more on a compromised design

I could’ve sworn I saw posts on sites that said the iPhone Ultra might not have MagSafe because of how thin the device is but I won’t complain if they were wrong.

Not having MagSafe would be bummer — it has proven to be a super useful feature.

Also, how would I use my new Clicks Power Keyboard with iPhone Ultra without MagSafe? Do I really need to glue a metal add-on ring like an Android user?
