Which one were you looking for? All the Apple Stores I've passed by near me have the 13" non-touch MBP on display. That is the only one to-date that was release for sale. The others were announced but not on sale yet. The only product I know of that Apple displayed before it went on sale was the Apple Watch. The touch bar Macs should be on display later this week I'd imagine.

Guessing we'll see online stores start to discount a bit once the early adopter orders have been filled. That is typical of most Macs now.

My plan, if they don't drop the price for the 2017 refresh, is to pickup this model from the refurbished section of Apple's site and save $3-500. I'll be happy with that.

As a PRO editor, here is my keyboard. I'll trade you one TOUCH BAR for better GPU that can handle 360 stitching and VR. I use the SD slot daily for my DJI P4, Nikon 360 and GoPro footage. Plus, I am not going to buy all new hard drives to transfer my existing video projects to a world with more points of failure. I am still rocking my 2011 MacBook Pro and will wait for next gen or switch to a BOXX system and bite the bullet.

I'm pretty sure that response you gave has nothing to do with the original post you are responding to.

Just curious, how do you use the built in keyboard when the lid is closed and hooked up to an external monitor and keyboard?

Very dumb

It is dumb since you can't, out of the box, hook up a common external keyboard. :D

Still can't get used to that huge track pad.
It looks weird...

Man I wonder why Apple didn't make the "TouchBar" evolve to the "TrackBar" where that HUGE expanse of trackpad is a secondary touch display ... maybe in time. while you all enjoying yours I'll get mine in March Family Vacation is critical this Xmas

Just stopped by an Apple Store here in Manhattan, and they unfortunately didn't have any Touch Bar MBPs out to play with yet.

They did have the non-Touch Bar MPBs, though, and as one of those people who hated the rMB keyboard, I am happy to report that the newer iteration felt (to me anyway) like it had a lot better tactile feedback. It also had a slightly more audible "click" with each keypress. I'd prefer a little more travel, myself, but I could imagine typing on this one without hating it.

I suspect my next Mac laptop will be the v2 rMB, assuming they go with the improved keyboard.

I'm not convinced by the videos. The touch bar seems to be drawing attention away from and competing with the other, regular screen and I can't see the usability benefit in this. Well, nothing spectacular, ground-breaking or necessary anyway. Developers certainly won't make apps require the touch bar (at least they probably shouldn't).

It seems to be a solution in search of a problem.

It seems people aren't aware of using hot keys in the programs they have mentioned that works well with said touch bar. Since most here don't have one yet feedback on programs and or video links would be a great way to show real world folks using the touch bar for pro/work apps.

Can someone take a pic of the TouchBar when using Terminal? Curious what 'buttons' are up there and/or what customizations can be made.

Really want to know if we get an ESC button in its traditional location (I do a lot of development in Terminal using vim, so an ESC key is critical).

(edit: I, also, have stopped by the local Apple Store, but they don't yet have any in-store to play with)

Here's a really enthusiastic unboxing. It's evidently her first time doing this and the one thing that comes clear in the 22 minutes of her setting up her new, 15" Pro is that she's most blown away by the size of the trackpad. She doesn't talk nearly as much about the touch bar as she does that.

Hi! Where do you live and how long did it take to ship to you? Because I'm in NZ and i've been waiting since the day after it came out. Thanks

There was a time when Apple users were pioneers of new technologies... remember USB? We were happy about this, even if change meant dongles and painful architecture jumps.

Now, at least for the vocal minority on forums, resistance to change is the name of the game. They want their 1996 ports so badly, whereas it's clear that Apple's push will accelerate the adoption of the fantastic new standard like nothing else would do.

Blogs with an agenda, like The Verge, seem to agree. But as an Apple user since 1995 I'm very happy about the #courage Apple keeps showing in order to push the tech world forward. This is pure Apple, doing pure Apple things.

Yeahhh... uhmmm... right..
Like they did with Firewire and Thunderbolt. Aaand Lightning port. Apple really has a vision on the latter one. They went for lightning instead of USB-C. That is really pushing USB-C forwards right? Like you can plug in your iphone 7 to the new Macbook.

Love it how Cook's fanboys swallow everything that Apple sells to them, while their eyes are wide shut.

The lightning port was clearly a screw up. They boxed themselves into a corner. I recall there was quite a bit of furore when they introduced it and to placate us they assured everyone it was now future proof and wouldn't need to be changed for some time.

I can see that those who have lots of legacy devices hanging of their machine may be annoyed. Particularly if you switch back and forth between other machines without USB-C ports. If on the other hand you just plug a whole lot of kit into your Mac in a static manner, then theres really little additional inconvenience in having a multiport adapter.

In my case I rarely have peripherals plugged in. So will just purchase some cheap micro USB->USB-C adapters. I don't find that a major inconvenience to be honest, a cable versus a cable with a small adapter on the end.

As a bonus I get four ports instead of the two on the current machine. The higher bandwidth of the ports means I would only occupy one port if I needed a more fully featured adapter later.

I'll miss the magsafe, particularly since I now have a toddler running around. The small bonus of this move is the ability to charge from either side.

Not too bothered about the touch bar.

Very happy about touchID (assuming it works with Keychain).

So yes, I will be getting one. I need it for work and I need to step up from my current 13" to 15" due to a change in my work flow/responsibilities. The price bump is annoying, but it's a work tool and amortised over the 3/4 years I can justify it against the hassle of switching to Windows (if that was an option). And in truth I'm very accustomed to OSX/Gestures/UI/etc and particularly like the trackpad.

I find windows jarring now (thats a personal preference, people going the other way may say the same about OSX) and haven't found a laptop with a trackpad I like this much (again personal preference). So am unlikely to switch unless they really annoy me.

What I really find surprising is from all the complaints I've read, no one has mentioned the bezels. Thats still my biggest gripe, particularly as I now have to step up to a 15". I would have preferred bezel-less over making it thinner.

Always makes me happy seeing photos being shared of things I can't afford.

Also, like this post or you will die in 5 minutes .

For me, it comes down to the following two questions.....

Did I use the top row of my keyboard before the touch strip?
Yes, but only really the Esc key and volume controls.

Do I use the top row of my keyboard after the touch strip?
(Unknown yet)

I imagine it will make using Logic much easier.

it would, if Logic supported the Touch Strip, which it doesn't (yet perhaps)

Indeed... my guess: wait and see, Apple will make the trackpad a whole new animal in 1-2 years

Hm. This is my first time watching one of her reviews, and I wonder why she said "this is my first time doing this..." She must have been referring to something else than doing an unboxing of an Apple computer. Or maybe I heard her wrong.

As I said, she sets up the computer as well as unboxes it. And discusses what she likes/doesn't like along the way.

It was her first time doing a YouTube Live broadcast.

I can believe they are shipping this crap...

Schiller is in complete denial...

THe design of the Macbook is a complete flaw.
You need several dongles, SSD and RAM are fixed into Logic board, Limited to 16 GB ram,

And they call it "PRO".
The only Pro thing is the price,
PRO OVERPRICEd....
PRO Dongle
PRO Not expandability

And they removed the best feature... the Mag-safe...

I wonder why they had to come and do damage control and lower the prices of dongles...

Biggest product growing category at Apple: Dongles...

Don't get me started on the whining about the cost. Have you seen the price of PCIe 3 SSDs? Apple is selling them for a lot less than Dell or even 3rd party. Compare the Apple cost of upgrading to 1TB SSD at $480 Canadian to a roughly equivalent Samsung 960 Pro Series on the US Amazon store for $630, and that's USD, folks!!! Dell is charging over $1300 CDN for the older model 1TB Samsung SSD that runs at half the speed on their Canadian site. Why are we not hearing about the Apple Discount on these drives?

I disagree with this. The upgrade is US$400 to upgrade from 512 to 1tb AFTER you paid $200 to upgrade from 256 to 512 on the TB model.

On the non-TB model you pay $600 to upgrade.

Even though this is reasonable considering the retail price of $630, they still have a very high margin on this upgrade, since you are not getting the original 256gb SSD, which was already included in the price.

That being said I am not complaining. To me the weight and size reductions are more important than upgradability and 3rd party SSDs haven't worked as well as apples for a long time anyways.

This just means nobody should buy the standard configs and max out ram and SSDs as much as they can.
