A colleague got a gold Max. The first day she wouldn't even take it out of the box.

The second day I gave her a case (I'd gotten two).

The third day she finally had it set up and used it. But she wasn't happy until the 5th day when her screen protectors showed up. SMH

Yeah, sort of BS if you ask me. I'm still on the fence about AC+. Seems like it would be worth it, but it's just too damn expensive.

i randomly got it a few days ago but I'm doing the monthly since i upgrade every year. this year im using only a bumper with front/back tempered glass instead of a case. it's a little slippery but im liking it. i have carrier insurance too but now also AC+ so i feel a bit better about it.

So the day I got the phone on launch day, I took the plastic off the top and bottom and put it right into the clear case I bought. Today is the first day that I am carrying it "naked" and one thing I realized that I know others have said, but dang the gold on the stainless, is no where near a gold color. It looks more like a Brass that hasnt been cleaned in 50 years and is tarnished. More of a brown than gold.

I did notice though how sticky the stainless is with this gold coating though, No where near as slick feeling as my previous silver X was.
Exactly my impression of the gold on XS/XS Max appearing more brassy copper than it is gold.

I hate cases so I put on a Slickwrap on my Gold Max. Love the look and while it doesn’t protect much, at least is better than nothing st all for scratches.

Been rocking the 8+ naked for about 4 days now and it’s awesome. I do have AC+. The thing is, I was all but convinced I was going with the XS but how easy the naked 8+ fits into my pockets has me tempted by the XSM. If I get the XSM I would go naked except for a leather sleeve.

I do pay a bit more attention and I make sure I don’t sit it down on marble or sandy surfaces. Now that I can slip it into/out of pockets it’s kind of a game-changer.

Was never a fan of cases for the same reason as everyone else but I bought the Pitaka for the XR I'm upgrading to. The new phone's are just too slippery

I agree too slippery and fate always, always catches up. I’ve taken my case off once during a dressy affair and I was nervous the whole damn time. Nope, got to have at least a thin case. I had a gold max but I just did not see the attraction. I went back to my faithful space gray when I purchased again. To his or her own, that’s the beauty of choice.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson has an interesting take on this (it has some language but it’s worth watching since he’s a genius :D).

Essentially, if you don’t want to break your phone, make “not dropping it” second nature.

EDIT: he makes his point in the first two minutes.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson is also worth a few million so I don't think the idea of paying to replace his screen is all too scary for him.

Great to hear someone else (especially someone with great influence) expressing the same philosophy. I've saved a ton of money over the years by not purchasing AppleCare nor expensive cases. Never once could I have used AppleCare on any of the devices I've owned. My adult daughter on the other hand, drops her phone a few times a day. SHE buys AppleCare.

I've been rocking my Gold XS Max since launch day. No issues here, minor scuffs on the back glass from laying it down on stuff but thats about it. Going from the X to XS Max was a nice size difference so if i had a case on it the phone would just feel way too big. I didnt use a case on my X either.

i have been caseless since the iPhone 4S. I love the feeling of the bare phone.
I have AC+ so it gives me that insurance.

I’ve actually had to use a cape cod cloth on my gold Xs already. Worked a treat for me. (I haven’t lost any of the gold colour, looks as new) I wouldn’t personally recommend doing it unless the scratch /blemish is really annoying you though.

Edit. To clarify, the blemish was only a couple of mm in size, but looked black in colour. The polishing cloth worked at getting it out without damaging the gold. I don’t know how it got there. Looked like oxidising to me ..
Woooowww i have really tiny micro scratch on my gold xs and it’s driving me nuts :( can i polish it ?

How does the back look? Any abrasions on the bottom from lying on hard surfaces?
If I was confident the lens cover to the camera would not get scratched I would rock my XR naked almost all the time.

The one thing I have been told to really avoid is marble/granite (countertops).

I don't think you need to worry about that much. It's the surrounding ring that will take damage if you're not careful.

You could try but I’d never guarantee it’ll come out, or you’ll remove the gold colouring. Try it at your own risk !!

Edit. But I have tried a cape cod cloth and it worked okay for me

I have a 1.5yo toddler and 7yo. I have AppleCare+, case, and glass protectors for the front and I’m still scared to rock my X naked for more than a hour at a time. I have rocked it naked for a few minutes at a time, never for more than 30 minutes to an hour, but I have to admit, I love the feeling of it without a case.

I'm conflicted.

I have an XS Max, and with the Apple leather case on it, it's just a little bigger than I want it to be.

It is much more manageable without the case, so I'll think about this.

But mine is silver, and I'm jealous of the original poster's finish on the stainless, which makes it easier to hold. My bare stainless is quite slick, it seems to me. :)

I always buy cases, including apple leather which is the most pleasant feeling, and I always end up taking them off. The max caseless is soo much more manageable for me.
